Teenage girls and those stupid fucking photos give me the rage

I have stepdaughters and as a result have them and a few of their friends (who added me) on fb. They are constantly taking selfies of themselves either on their own or in groups with their hands over their faces so all you can see is one eye or a bit of skin. Either that it it's photos taken in the mirror with a flash so all you can see is their shoes or a shoulder. And there are hundreds of them.

It gives me a totally irrational rage. What is the fucking point? There are going to be a whole generation of girls who will have next to no photos of themselves at this age. I really don't get it. Beautiful girls who won't show their faces. Just why?

I think I need to hide most of these posts on FB before I give myself a hernia Confused HmmAngry

Not sure what BDR autocorrect is...

MarchelineWhatNot · 01/07/2016 05:07

Bae= before anyone else

Ahhhh, I thought it meant "ba(b)e". Thanks for clearing that up Grin.

50shadesofGreer · 01/07/2016 05:18

When I was that age we didn't take selfies, but we did all wear heather shimmer lipstick, perm our hair and hang around the park with boys drinking white lightning.

I think selfies may be preferable.

MarchelineWhatNot · 01/07/2016 05:43

I agree with you, 50Shades. We were far more badly behaved.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 06:54

EttaJ have you got teenaged girls? Because your description doesn't fit either of mine or their friends

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 07:25

Thanks Etta again, I agree with you. The whole selfie/want to be famous culture is ridiculous. Glad you could see I was "being funny" and I'm the same, not easily upset but some are so only fair to apologise Smile

SuburbanRhonda · 01/07/2016 07:45

Sounds like that was only an apology until etta turned up to validate your nasty views, mike

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 07:46

remind me in a couple of years time to call your daughter a "fucking twat". No apology for this then? outofpractice my earlier comment was a generalisation of what I might call "twatish behaviour" I wasn't referring to any one person whatsoever but apologised nonetheless.

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 07:47

suburbanrhonda not at all. As I said in the post above. Wink

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 07:50

Ps rhonda again as I said in a previous post only fair to apologise. I was not referring to any one person merely that I found the behaviour "twatish" and the language sounds "thick" wow, shoot me already!

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 07:51

You know exactly what I meant by that Mike. It meant "I wonder how you'll feel in s couple of years time when someone calls your DD a tucking twat". So no, I won't apologise for that thanks. I think you might not find it so fucking hilarious then

Most (hardly any?) teenage girls are as you describe. Your opinion and expectations of them seems very low. Which is strange since you have an 11YO DD yourself.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 07:53

You fucking did not Say that their behaviour was twattish. You said that they are fuckibg twats. That is completely different. Don't try and rewrite history now

SuburbanRhonda · 01/07/2016 07:55

So you only apologised because you thought it fair because some people were offended by you calling teenagers "fucking twats".

You didn't apologise because you thought it was offensive. I believe the term for that kind of apology is "mealy-mouthed".

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 07:58

bitoutofpractice that's obviously what I meant! At no point did I say "your DD or DN is a fucking twat" I shall have to be clearer next time. I have already apologised for saying "fucking twats" (imagine it with an eye roll)

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 08:00

suburbanrhonda yes I apologised because some people took offence to what I thought was being funny in a generalised way!! Seriously? Sometimes it's hard to believe I'm talking to actual grown up women!! Wow.

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 08:01

PS Rhonda if I thought it was offensive I wouldn't have written it in the first place would I?!!

PreviouslyMal · 01/07/2016 08:32

Have any of you never seen photos of your parents/grandparents in the 1950's / 60's /70's ?
Teenagers have always seemed ridiculous to the older generation ( except me , in the early 80's, with my Adam Ant face stripe) .
Just be bloody grateful that your daughters have the freedom to do what they do, unless you would prefer them to cover their faces and bodies?

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 08:33

Mike trust me, your eyes cannot have rolled any further than mine have!

One thing I hate about these mealy mouthed apologies is that the blame is put on the person offended. "I didn't mean to offend so you are stupid / over-reacting / ridiculous / a twat to be offended."

And I wasn't the only one who took exception to what you said.

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 08:37
Hmm
BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 08:55

Hmm yourself. That is so like a teenager saying "whatever" it's untrue!

If you had called me a fucking twat on here your post would have been deleted for breaking the guidelines. Does that make it any clearer that your post was out of order?

Anyway, at least you didn't say that our daughters are all slaves to the devil like flickering did so that's one thing I suppose Shock

rap12 · 01/07/2016 08:57

hate selfies, I dont even have a camera phone! was on the bus the other day and 2 teenage girls (one with a baby in a buggy) were taking selfies the whole 30 minute bus journey -- not talking to or about the baby, or even gossiping about others (as teenagers tend to do), but taking stupid photos. poor baby having to live with that!

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 08:58

Hmm was being sarcastic but it is hard to pick up on sarcasm through text. You're right, it does make it clearer and next time I shall say twatish behaviour instead. No, no slaves to the devil!!! Lol Confused

Tinklewinkle · 01/07/2016 09:03

I always find these Facebook-gives-me-the-rage posts quite odd.

It's Facebook. It's not compulsory. The whole point of it is to post shite isn't it? If you don't like what you see, unfriend or unfollow.

I have a selfie posting teen, it's silly yes, but no more silly than some of the stuff I got up to at her age - we just didn't have mobiles or Facebook to record it all for posterity.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 10:21

Shall we be BFFs now Mike? You can be my bae Wink

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 10:31

bitoutofpractice goals bae Wink I'll bring my sharpie over x
