Teenage girls and those stupid fucking photos give me the rage

I have stepdaughters and as a result have them and a few of their friends (who added me) on fb. They are constantly taking selfies of themselves either on their own or in groups with their hands over their faces so all you can see is one eye or a bit of skin. Either that it it's photos taken in the mirror with a flash so all you can see is their shoes or a shoulder. And there are hundreds of them.

It gives me a totally irrational rage. What is the fucking point? There are going to be a whole generation of girls who will have next to no photos of themselves at this age. I really don't get it. Beautiful girls who won't show their faces. Just why?

I think I need to hide most of these posts on FB before I give myself a hernia Confused HmmAngry

Check out urban dictionary if you need explanations of the slang. My mains = my posse, my BFFs.

I'm sure these girls have plenty of pics of their faces and bodies that they're not posting. I've taken a few of the selfies you describe. My Twitter profile pic is just my hair. They know they're more than the sum of their parts. And it's super difficult to take a cute pic of hands so kudos to those who manage it.

smallfox1980 · 30/06/2016 19:23

Oh well, just be thankful they're not posting nudes eh.

That also seems to be the "thing" at school these days.

thrillhouse · 30/06/2016 19:30

Some of these comments are downright ridiculous.

Teenagers have ALWAYS had a hive mind mentality. And I'm pretty sure they've always seemed weird to the older generation(s).

I can guarantee that every single one of you will have done something equally as daft as a duck face selfie or sharpie brows or this covering face photo thing in your teenage years.

MikeWasowski · 30/06/2016 19:32

I just googled it and it says on the urban dictionary that the two finger pout pose is the "ratchet pose" and ratchet is ghetto for wretched! So why would you want to pull a "ratchet pose"?? But we were all teenagers once and thank fu@4 we didn't have social media then!! Most of mine would have been me raving and gurning. #themhotpantsthough!! That gets on my tits too!! That face though! That hair though! Everyone sounds so thick!!!! Rant over. Off to practice my ratchet pose Grin

mysteriousbat · 30/06/2016 19:46

Nbu at all. Drives me mad. 'Tagging mains.'
Or, with a face full of makeup and obviously dressed up for the pic "I'm so ugly". I'm so glad when I was a teenager there was no fb too, I dread to think of the cringing I would do now.

foxtrotyankee · 30/06/2016 19:51

we don't eyebrow spot but me (male) and 5 yr old son do like to count the number of skintight black jeans/leggings with perfectly ripped knee slits.

smallfox1980 · 30/06/2016 19:52

I own one of these girls.

Saturday night was spent with 2 other friends here. All night dressing, doing make up, taking picture after picture, for them to post 3 different pics to each different Instagram, and then wait for the likes.

Oh I agree its not that bad, but it is irritating.

Although my mother was irritated by me sitting on the phone ALL evening to my friends that I had been with at school all day, most of whom lived less than 15 mins walk away.

Oh that and the skirt, which was minuscule, the excessive eye liner etc.

We won't go into the penchant for underage drinking in pubs or picking older men (well late teens/20s) from about 15, cause she didn't know about that.

Madeyemoodysmum · 30/06/2016 21:15

What the what! Are they seriously using a sharpie on there eyebrows????????

PortiaCastis · 30/06/2016 21:27

Mike Wasowki Kindly do not refer to people's teens as thick and fucking twats. You don't know what's heading your way !

Kanga59 · 30/06/2016 21:36

Are they tagging mains also. WTAF is that?

DodiGilbert · 30/06/2016 22:24

My son does the hand over face thing, so I asked him why. I was heartbroken when he replied it was because he's ugly. (He truly isn't, he's beautiful). I think we need to look at the body images being projected onto kids and understand that they're struggling with the way they look in a way we didn't have to. By this, I mean we weren't surrounded by social media and a need for instant 'likes' for each outfit/hairdo etc. First world problems, but still a problem none the less.

a1poshpaws · 30/06/2016 23:22

I can't quite understand why you care? Just don't look!

RandomName9 · 30/06/2016 23:39

Dodi that is awfull, I think I would be heartbroken aswell. My son is 11coff to grammar in September & I'm desperately trying to keep him away from social media but it's so hard! I'm actually a photographer, I done a school prom last night & so many of the photos were of the kids doing this. I thought it was just "a thing" I didn't realise that is what it means..these girls were bloody gorgeous, literally all of them, identical looking but they could be models! Wish I bloody looked like that at 15, how can they think they are ugly!!

SuburbanRhonda · 30/06/2016 23:44

Will you all listen to yourselves? What nasty, vitriolic bilge is being posted about teenagers by parents, of all people.

As a1poshpaws says, if you don't like it, don't look.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 30/06/2016 23:54

There are some really unpleasant posts on this thread.

My own dd has had her share of disastrous selfie but I don't see her as a 'fucking twat'. That's just horrible.

Numberoneisgone · 30/06/2016 23:58

Accept them as friends and unfollow them immediately because you cannot be doing with that nonsense.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 00:06

No sign of Mike Wasowki to apologise for her nasty comment? I thought not.

Flickeringjamhuts · 01/07/2016 00:56

Hi all. The one eyed face they are doing is a reflection of the music fashion and film industry. The magazine ID always has a one eyed faced celeb on it. Its actually imcreasingly everywhere inc UK. Even star wars posters for new film had light sabers creating just one eye visible on the main stars.

You wont like to know its a deeply troubling thing and any internet search of occult one eyed symbolism will turn up some powerful and dark results. My DD is 10. This one eyed selfie is new to me, hadnt realised tje kids were doing it. Im very very worried the ways its permeated and of course they arent doing it for occult reasons but that is what it reflects.

There is a serious problem we have with pop tv and fashion. We do need to be way more aware collectively.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2016 01:04

Sorry flickering I think that's a load of rubbish.

Bogeyface · 01/07/2016 01:46

And dont let your kids read Harry Potter either eh Flickering? FFS.....Hmm

I am, like PPs, very grateful that FB didnt exist when was a kid. Seeing photos of me looking my "best" as a teen is excrutiating enough when there is only a couple per roll, a couple of rolls per year. Several per day would have me hiding in a dark wardrobe for the rest of my life with embarrassment!

MikeWasowski · 01/07/2016 01:56

Sorry people, been busy. I do apologise for calling children fucking twats and saying that people sound thick! You're right I shouldn't have said that and I do have a teenager but he is not into selfies. Apologies again for anyone offended. I will not call anyone a twat nor thick again ( well kids anyway!) Blush

EttaJ · 01/07/2016 03:22

Flickering ugh can't stand conspiracy shit. Nonsense.

Bogey ha me too. I shudder at the thought but we weren't all shallow and showy like they are now. So insincere.

Mike I thought it was funny. Not easily offended. A lot of them are twats and shallow twats at that. Goals and shit. All about material things. No work hard to get it ,just want to be rich and famous with no actual effort. The Kylie Jenners and Kartrashian wannabes. What terrible "role models" they have now.

PalaceResident · 01/07/2016 04:23

The Kardashians have ruined the faces of young girls. I just this evening saw an old school friends DD on FB posing for the make up artist she'd just been to (perhaps go BDR her prom make up done or whatever) the make up was just hideous and she's a gorgeous girl.

I think all the face covering and flash in the mirror stuff is good. The less pictures of teenage girls all over the Internet the better!
