Teenage girls and those stupid fucking photos give me the rage

I have stepdaughters and as a result have them and a few of their friends (who added me) on fb. They are constantly taking selfies of themselves either on their own or in groups with their hands over their faces so all you can see is one eye or a bit of skin. Either that it it's photos taken in the mirror with a flash so all you can see is their shoes or a shoulder. And there are hundreds of them.

It gives me a totally irrational rage. What is the fucking point? There are going to be a whole generation of girls who will have next to no photos of themselves at this age. I really don't get it. Beautiful girls who won't show their faces. Just why?

I think I need to hide most of these posts on FB before I give myself a hernia Confused HmmAngry

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2016 10:35

" photograph themselves on nights out with the cat's bum look."
What does this mean? I need to see that :o
think dhs grandma might have pulled this face at out wedding :o (she likes me btw just not one for smiling )

witchofzog · 29/06/2016 10:35

Haha. I so wanted a perm but wasn't allowed. I really really fancied boys with curtains though ☺

And that's another point. If you can't see faces in a few years time they may not be able to even recall who many of the other girls in the photos were if they have not seen them for a few years. At least if their faces are there, albeit with dated hair, make up and clothes, you can have a fair guess

And as for todays teenagers having their teenage photos forever on the intetnet some fucker from my yr at school has posted our fourth yr form photo on facebook we are forever on the internet too in all our electric blue mascara and permed glory from around 1988/89😢

littleprincesssara · 29/06/2016 12:49

I'm not thaaat far out of my teens and I have to say the only mirror selfies I've ever taken are of my pets on me. But I was a geek as a teen.

viviantaylor666 · 29/06/2016 13:08

I understand it might be annoying, but don't take it so seriously! It is their own Facebook, they can put up whatever pictures they like.

Revengeoftheseabass · 29/06/2016 13:21

I'd really hate to be a teenager now. There's so much pressure for both sexes around image and looking 'hot'.

I was (am) overweight, so I can well imagine I'd have been ripped to shreds for not having a six-pack or whatever.

revenge it does worry me this "hot" thing. The silly poses don't worry me but the desperate behavior does. When they are so young , 13/14/15 they are dressed like much older girls/women and as you say, it's all about being bloody "hot" which is so sad. My DC are way past that stage but my DN are all at it and friends daughters. I worry for them.

pearlylum · 29/06/2016 13:42

My teens have an easier time of it than we did in the 70s.

kelper · 29/06/2016 13:46

Some of the girls on my 16yo DS Facebook are very funny, but I absolutely covet their hair!
my goes crazy with-in 3 minutes of being GHD'd.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/06/2016 13:53

What even worse is when they say-
Those lips though
That body though
Hmm
Also on point and on fleek.
I work with people only a couple of years younger than me that say these things. They aren't teens! Once in your twenties you can't get away with this shit.

Micah · 29/06/2016 14:00

Is that really important? Is your life wasted or a disaster if you don't have photos?

I have no photos of myself as a teenager. Barely any as an adult. I'm not curled in a corner wishing I could go back and take photos.

I agree the photos are ridiculous, my own particular bugbear is the eyebrow/pout thing. I'm often dying to comment about cats arses, ducks, or slug infestations. But in the long run it's not going to affect their lives majorly if they have a few weird teenage fashion pictures.

supersoftcuddlytoys · 29/06/2016 14:26

We went on the London Eye a couple of weeks ago. In our pod thingy were about 20 teenage girls, they all sat in the middle taking those pouting, cats arse - mouthed - selfies. I doubt they looked out at the view once.

Dogsandcats123 · 29/06/2016 14:32

I'm 17 (No sharpie eyebrows here Grin ),
and in the context that my peers use it, "you're goals" means "I'd like to be you". Similar to relationship goals, "I want a relationship like this (based on a single photo)"

EttaJ · 29/06/2016 14:45

Arf happy memories! I loved my puffball skirts and white high knee socks with ribbons a la Pepsi and Shirley!

Shouldwestayorshouldwegonow · 29/06/2016 14:46

Oh teens have always done daft things.

Better then than at 40,

My 80s perm was god awful looking back and yes Arf bat wing jumpers and puff ball skirt. Also a raa raa skirt and tye n dye shirt. Grin

I love my teen dds and their friends as they are a huge source of piss take to me.

EttaJ · 29/06/2016 14:50

I'm endlessly fascinated by home made eyebrows 😂

Teenage girls and those stupid fucking photos give me the rage
Katedotness1963 · 29/06/2016 14:51

I find it odd that teenaged girls seem to want to look exactly the same these days. I couldn't pick my niece out of a group photo recently.

PurpleHatt · 29/06/2016 14:58

I am friends with my younger sister and some of her friends on FB. They're all teens. They make me cringe. Absolutely no different from what we did as teens in the 1990s and 2000s but there were fewer people able to watch, and capture, us make dicks of ourselves.

What I really don't get is how instant all of these photos are nowadays. We used to take stupid pictures of ourselves and each other on school trips, nights out etc. but so much of the excitement was waiting to finish the film, take it to the shop, wait for it to be developed and then see what photos you had. Given it took so long, I think we treasured (and still do treasure) photos from our yoof a lot more.

I was telling Dsis about this waiting for photos to be developed the other day and she thought I was joking. She actually googled it because she didn't believe me Shock

It's always been like this. I remember walking past a group of teenage girls at flamingo land in the 90's. Permed blonde hair pulled into a pony tail on top of the head, white tee, baggy jeans. All the same.

You get it with older people too. Ran across a middle class mummy group at the park. All wore leggings and knee boots, with a choice of boden tunic, or denim skirt and tank top. Hair in sleek bobs. With matching boden children. All looked the same.

RaeSkywalker · 29/06/2016 15:00

Etta me too! My little (19 year old) cousin and her friends all have long, poker straight, bleached blonde hair... And black sharpie eyebrows. Why?! Do they think the eyebrows look natural?! Do they all share the same eyebrow pencil?! So many questions!!

I also genuinely haven't seen a photo of her smiling for about 3 years. They're all duck face.

I agree with what others have said- I'm so glad that my cringey teen photos aren't online!!

Shouldwestayorshouldwegonow · 29/06/2016 15:37

purple

Yes we saw an old sketch of Peter Kay about photographing the dog on the patio to use the film up and my teens looked blank and then horrified when I explained it.

Remember getting tye tru print envelope after a holiday and being beyond excited. Simpler days Wink
