To get really wound up by people who put letters after their name on Facebook!

Just what I said in my title really! For example 'Jabe Bloggs BSc hons' as their Facebook name.
I accept it's irrational that it winds me up so much but it seems odd. Are they showing off? Proud? Think it's just what people do when they've graduated? Or am I overthinking it?!

I have never seen that! However if and when I do I will think "what a knob!"

If they just graduated I think its ok and kind of sweet tbh - yabu

If they graduated 2+ yrs ago and its anything other than Dr Bloggs type titles - yanbu

I have never seen that before! I'd unfollow then. The ones that get on my nerves are the ones like:

'Hannahfulltimemummy Potter'

Or

'Hannahmummytoprincess Potter'

Gives me an unreasnoble amount of rage

I haven't seen this but I once came across someone who had their letters on their chequebook. I was embarrassed for them, frankly, and I'm usually a live and let live type of person.

It was Joe Bloggs B.A. iirc.

I know someone who called himself 'Dr' on Facebook. He went around telling people he had a doctorate in 'Mythological History' - did he fuck. It was the doctorate that was mythical!

No one gives a shit if you have a degree or not apart from your employer or potential employer.

Anyone who does this goes down in my estimation. Save it for LinkedIn if you must!

Ive never seen this, and my first thought is how unnecessary, as Facebook already allows you to list and make public all your educational history!

If it is people who are just graduating now, I'd think it was quite sweet for a short while, just like when I got my final results from medical school (a long time now!), I called my parents and said "Hello. It's Dr Strathearn here!" to let them know I'd passed.

I've never seen anyone change their FB name to include their letters though and wouldn't expect it beyond the next couple of weeks if I did.

That said, a lot of people seem to have friends on FB who do all sorts of bizarre things, whereas all my friends seem to be normal!

Don't go on Facebook? I've stopped looking at it and have discovered it's good for my blood pressure not to!

Once at work, a colleague left a message for me on my desk and finished it off with his name and MA credentials....on a ruddy post it note!!!

I think it's odd and unnecessary, but I think all this 'he must be a twat if he uses his letters/academic title' business is part on the anti-intellectualism which has got us into our current mess.

I feel a bit embarrassed about using 'Dr' for my title (partly because I'm an academic, but people assume I'm a medical doctor) - I never used to do it at all before I got married, but I find it's the one way to stop people randomly designating me as 'Mrs'.

I'm not sure that I believe that anyone does this! My FB friends list is full of PhDs, and other learned people. Not a letter to be seen.

If just graduated and very proud of themselves it's okay. Temporarily only.

Otherwise they are a dick. Reminds me of an ex I had who was nearly 30 and still liked to go on (and on and on) about his degree. He even wore a ring that apparently was a special ring you could only wear if you had graduated from this particular uni. It would make people respect him he said. It made me dump him. Twat.

That's why I use Dr too. And only if the person start using Mrs. I prefer first name basis. There are still knob heads who insist on calling me Mrs though.
