To get really wound up by people who put letters after their name on Facebook!

Just what I said in my title really! For example 'Jabe Bloggs BSc hons' as their Facebook name.
I accept it's irrational that it winds me up so much but it seems odd. Are they showing off? Proud? Think it's just what people do when they've graduated? Or am I overthinking it?!

What do the Jane Joesmummy Bloggs do if they have more than one? Actually, I may find out from my cousin, since they are currently trying to conceive child 2 (which I also know from Facebook...)

RaeSkywalker · 28/06/2016 17:10

Margaret, from what I've seen they either go with:

Kate MummyToJoeAndElla Pearson

Or

Kate FullTimeMummy Pearson.

My BIL always puts BA(Hons) after his name and also on his company's website. He's got a very ordinary 2:2 in English! I'm not friends with him on Facebook but wouldn't be surprised if he did it on there too.

DontDead0penlnside · 28/06/2016 17:22

Gahhhhh! And those imbeciles who don't understand that FB has an easily found function to put a maiden name in so it shows up nicely under a married name on a profile (and is searchable)

But nooo instead they put Sharon WasTaylorNow Smith.

Fecking inbreds. Rage.

glasgowlass · 28/06/2016 17:28

I have a 'friend' on FB who has "HNC" after her name. (I don't know If that's purely a Scottish qualification?.. It stands for Higher National Certificate). Her HNC is in beauty therapy.
On the other hand I have a good friend who is a Hospital Consultant, very well renowned & respected nationally, she is also a PhD so I call her a 'double doctor'. Does she have that on her FB? No, because she's not a twat.

MidniteScribbler · 29/06/2016 03:03

I have a fake name on facebook (to stop students finding me) but would never consider putting my title on there. I wouldn't even let the school change my title and got the rage when new business cards arrived with it on them.

sashh · 29/06/2016 08:39

I have a friend who does this, it annoys me because she does, but also because it says B.A. hons not BA(Hons).

If you are going to be a twat be an accurate twat.

I once worked with someone who used the phrase "so council house" for things like this. Whilst I personally don't like the phrase I know what she meant.

She used it about things like when you are asked for your name on the phone people who say, "Miss Smith" not "Anne Smith" or just "Smith".

japanesegarden · 29/06/2016 08:51

I use my letters, of which I have a reasonable collection, on the title slide of academic presentations and on letters that I am writing in my professional capacity, especially where I want to sound as fearsome as possible (not very). At no other time!

Absy · 29/06/2016 08:57

I know someone who does this, not on FB but when writing a message on a charity calendar. Mine is something like "all the best! Absy!" And his is "all the best. Bob Hope BSc, chartered accountant ISO 9001" (the ISO thing is for real). He is a massive tool, FYI

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 29/06/2016 09:42

Ace Grin I'm going to start doing that immediately
It'll add such gravitas when I'm selling glittery shit on FB.

Regards,

Raptor 'SparklingPrincessMummy' InaPorkPieHat BSc Hons
