turned away from beauticians because I had my baby with me

I have just been turned away from a beauty salon because 'we don't allow children '. Not only do I not have childcare but my baby is so exclusively breast fed. I feel so upset, humiliated and angry. Is this a commonly accepted practice?!

I've always taken my DC with me when they were Pre School age and under but only for quick treatments like eyebrow waxing. The staff have given them treats and never made me feel uncomfortable about them being there.

DurhamDurham · 27/06/2016 15:32

Those nail technicians wear masks for a reason, would you really expose a baby to chemicals that strong?
I breastfed but that didn't mean I couldn't go out, it's entirely possible with a bit of planning.

Abetes · 27/06/2016 15:34

I'm a mother of two but wouldn't dream of taking children to a beauty salon. For childless women it would be annoying to have a screaming baby and women with children who go to a beauty salon are usually there for some relaxing peace and quiet themselves.

vindscreenviper · 27/06/2016 15:36

Isn't this topic for drawing attention to inappropriate media content targeted at children?

justdontevenfuckingstart · 27/06/2016 15:37

So next time ask in advance if it's ok. No rights or wrongs it's up to the establishments. But your feelings are extreme and not warranted.

JudyCoolibar · 27/06/2016 15:38

Mrsmugoo, what are you planning to do if your child doesn't sleep through and wakes up mid wax?

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 27/06/2016 15:38

And I was told I couldn't take part in my scuba lesson because I was babywearing

FFS!

beauticians = full of chemicals and hazards, lots of treatments include keeping your eyes closed, they're beauty therapists not creche staff!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/06/2016 15:39

It does make a difference what you are having done. Of course it does Hmm Some things you can properly supervise your DC as well, others you can't. You are being at least a bit disingenuous here OP...

user7755 · 27/06/2016 15:45

Get a hold of yourself woman. You couldn't get your nails done or whatever, Rosa Parks you ain't.

Jackie0 · 27/06/2016 15:49

It's strange that you assumed you could .
It's not a safe environment , they wouldn't be insured and no one wants a baby there anyway

SheHasAWildHeart · 27/06/2016 15:53

I can't see that it makes much difference what I would like to have done
Yes it does. A two hour waxing session versus two minutes getting your eyebrows done? If it's the latter they probably won't mind you having a child with you, but if was the former I can understand why they turned you away.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 27/06/2016 15:54

In 'trending' (gah) the thread title breaks off at 'because I...'.
I was sure it was going to be '...voted Leave'.

Floggingmolly · 27/06/2016 15:54

You had no choice but to take your baby to a beauty salon?? Are there penalties for not going?
Some people... I knew someone once who was incandescent with rage to be told she couldn't take her two year old to her ante natal classes.

SheHasAWildHeart · 27/06/2016 15:56

haha HeteronormativeHaybales

BitOutOfPractice · 27/06/2016 15:57

Humiliated? Why are you feeling humiliated?

legotits · 27/06/2016 15:58

But did you vote in or out OP?

ItsyBitsyBikini · 27/06/2016 16:00

I need my hair doing desperately after giving birth 2 weeks ago. I'll leave baby with my mum or dp or ask my hairdresser if I can have my hair done at my sisters (hairdresser lives next door to her) so sis and niece can look after baby. I wouldn't take baby into the salon as it's noisy, full of fumes and my hair takes longer than he'll be asleep for and I can't feed him whilst having a hairdresser fussing round me. Mobile beauty therapists are your friend at this time!

CotswoldStrife · 27/06/2016 16:00

IME it is very common for salons and spas to not allow children so yes, it is an accepted practice.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/06/2016 16:01

Rosa Parks you ain't GrinGrinGrin

Can we use that phrase for everyone who's become a touch precious

KatharinaRosalie · 27/06/2016 16:03

How else do people do these things?! - they go when the other parent/other family member is looking after the baby, or find a babysitter?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 27/06/2016 16:04

I feel so upset, humiliated and angry

OP, don't waste those precious emotions, shit happens. Its not personal!

and many places DPO allow them

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 27/06/2016 16:04

Rosa Parks you ain't

just giving you a gold medal for that one!

TobleroneBoo · 27/06/2016 16:07

Its probably not a very safe place for a baby and there could be something within their insurance that says that no children are allowed.

Rosa Parks you aint has made me do a real laugh out loud

MintyChapstick · 27/06/2016 16:08

There's nothing worse than a screaming baby or bored child running around in a hair or beauty salon. The place I used to go to allowed it and it would drive me crackersp when you're trying to relax, not to mention the fact it's dangerous.
