AIBU to fear Theresa May being dead set to be a PM

From what I've seen so far, she is biting like a shark for no.10 allready, while Johnston is reluctant at best to
take it on. I always had a nasty feeling she keeps Thatcher's photo in a silver frame on her nightstand. Even the possibility of her at the helm is blood freezing, IMO...

Honestly any of them at the helm is blood freezing. I can't think of any Tory front benchers I'd like steering this country. They're all awful. Actually making me wish dc hadn't resigned just thinking about it...

Floisme · 26/06/2016 22:45

I think she's the only one who might just be capable of getting a halfway reasonable deal for us out of the EU. So on that basis I'd say she was the best of an admittedly dreadful bunch. Not that they'll be asking my opinion.

CointreauVersial · 26/06/2016 22:47

Well, she's probably the most sensible alternative. Who else do you fancy? Gove? BoJo?

justbogoff · 26/06/2016 22:49

Unfortunately the options are poor at this stage.
Definitely not Gove. Boris seems strangely reticent to sort out the shit storm.

tilder · 26/06/2016 22:51

Are you BoJo's campaign manager?Wink

They are all a nightmare. Yes let's vote against the elite. Let's vote against the establishment. Oh dear. Slight miscalculation. Just like the rest of Brexit.

WorraLiberty · 26/06/2016 22:51

She seems like the best of a bad bunch.

Crunchymum · 26/06/2016 22:52

Johnson

His surname is Johnson

HTH

ImperialBlether · 26/06/2016 22:53

There isn't one politician that I would want at the helm at the moment - that's a pretty bad situation, isn't it?

tilder · 26/06/2016 22:54

Oh and I know IBS is saying that the new PM has to be from Brexit. As anything else would be too hard for those who voted for Brexit to swallow.

In my naive little world, I would like someone who is a bit more balanced. Who realises yes 52% was the majority but not an overwhelming one. That they need to take all of us with them.

annandale · 26/06/2016 22:56

May? Her policy decisions so far have tended towards dictatorship a strong leadership style that is not to everyone's taste.

She's kept REMARKABLY quiet in this campaign which shows tactical intelligence if not honour or courage. Sounds like another David Cameron tbh. I suppose we could (and quite likely will) do worse.

longfingernails · 26/06/2016 22:58

She wouldn't be too bad, though she's a bit too authoritarian generally. She has gravitas and experience. Gove would be even better in my opinion; he successfully took on the blob in education and in justice. Boris - I really hope not.

longfingernails · 26/06/2016 22:59

Andrea Leadsom would make a fantastic Chancellor.

peachpudding · 26/06/2016 23:02

Be great to have another female PM, I think she would do a good job, tough but fair.

peachpudding · 26/06/2016 23:04

What is wrong with having a photo of Margaret Thatcher? Apparently some people have photos of justin Bieber, now that is creepy!

Leta86 · 26/06/2016 23:08

She'd be Thatcher 2.0. Can you imagine her and Merkel in a clash??? And BoJo is a Remain undercover, just look at his interview for the Telegraph, twitter is exploding about it!

OP posts:
longfingernails · 26/06/2016 23:17

Sadly I don't think she would be another Maggie. Maggie was unique, the greatest PM since Churchill. But she would do a reasonable job I think.

alltouchedout · 26/06/2016 23:18

Her approach to human rights deeply unsettles me.

GraceGrape · 26/06/2016 23:19

The only things I can think of in her favour are that she's a woman and she's not Gove. I'm not even sure she'd be better than Boris, except that Boris would end up having to represent the views of Brexiteers (his puppetmasters.....).

She has shown herself to be incredibly anti-immigration.

HormonalHeap · 26/06/2016 23:19

Another one here for Theresa May. No competition

ImGoingToTeabagYourDrumkitDale · 26/06/2016 23:28

I think her as PM and Andrea Leadsom as chancellor is the best mix to clean up the mess. It's going to need a firm hand unfortunately.

Dozer · 26/06/2016 23:29

Nicola sturgeon could just switch allegiance to the UK!

RepentAtLeisure · 26/06/2016 23:31

She'd be a better bet than Boris. Because she is a career politician, and not a spotlight seeking famewhore.

I don't know a great deal about her to be honest, but I do remember reading here about her withdrawing Gary McKinnon's extradition order after a decade in which Blair and Brown had both refused to help him and upset the Americans. I do admire that.

RepentAtLeisure · 26/06/2016 23:33

She'd have to have balls of steel to take on Boris though. He's got the hopes and dreams of the Leavers on his shoulders. They will not be pleased if May is in charge...

Inyournightdress · 26/06/2016 23:42

If gove became pm I genuinely would consider emigrating. That's not even a joke.

LittleLionMansMummy · 26/06/2016 23:47

She's a clever woman and one of the most successful/ longest serving Home Secretaries ever. I'm not a Tory but would take her over the alternatives any day. A smart cookie that one, just kept her mouth shut and let the others do the digging.
