I'm feeling pretty shocked and scared right now.

Why did you vote for brexit?

To quote someone on another thread:

It's amazing how little democracy means to people when they don't get their own way

If it had been remain by 4%, there'd be no complaining from the remain crew that it was unfair. They'd be crowing and cheering. (and were doing so, when it looked for awhile like remain was winning at 53%)

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 22:14

We're leaving the EU, with disastrous consequences, on a majority of 4% of voters whose ignorance, as shown on here, is breathtaking.

We appear to be reading different threads Manon....

loobyloo1234 · 24/06/2016 22:14

Abd the Germans, Italians and Dutch who are my friends and neighbours are actually quite upset. Genuinely upset. It has huge ramifications fur them.

Do you know something we don't then? What has been announced for them? More scaremongering by any chance

wispaxmas · 24/06/2016 22:24

I kid you not, someone on Facebook actually said, 'now we can kick out all the Romanians and Asians.'

I despair.

ChipStix · 24/06/2016 22:26

Wouldn't you be upset in their shoes? Wouldn't the uncertainty cause concern? Some work in academia conducting European- funded research, others work in the NHS.

imagibe being upset at the prospect of losing your job.

TulipsInAJug · 24/06/2016 22:29

I'm horrified by the reaction of the Remainers. Or should I say, hysterical overreaction.

There are some that are posting on all the MN threads on this and their arrogance and contempt for those who don't share their viewpoint is astounding.

I can't wait till this all dies down. Armageddon it ain't. The way to deal with something that didn't go the way you wanted it to is not to throw your toys out of the pram, name-call, point fingers and shout abuse. How immature.

WeDoNotSow · 24/06/2016 22:29

imagibe being upset at the prospect of losing your job

The irony, it buurns

blinkowl · 24/06/2016 22:35

"They could reject it. And make a complete mockery of democracy in the process"

Not necessarily.

In some countries (e.g. Poland IIRC) the result would have been rejected as too close and therefore undemocratic.

ReallyTired · 24/06/2016 22:39

What about the people at Port Tabot who has lost their jobs because the Chinese dump steel at below cost price on the world market. The remainers who say they will lose their jobs didn't care that the inflexibility of the eu stopped us from helping our steel industry.

Rather than screaming racism why not visit Sunderland to ask them why they wanted Brexit inspite of the risk of Nissian closing its factory.

Paniniswapx3 · 24/06/2016 22:41

Five President's Report & not liking Juncker's (& the others) plans for the future closer fiscal & monetary union.

Nothing to do with racism for me & I hold an MSc from a red brick university so well educated also.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 24/06/2016 22:41

Personally I think a vote either way without being prepared for the consequences is incredibly irresponsible.

Peppatina · 24/06/2016 22:43

ReallyTired But that didn't count...it wasn't THEIR job.

There's a few I'm alright Jacks I think that happily sold everyone else up the swanny who were struggling under the EU as they were benefitting from it.

Stings a little now that it's their jobs and life on the line.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/06/2016 22:44

Really
It was the UK blocking the EU increasing tariffs on Chinese steel.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/06/2016 22:47

Peppatina
I think you will find that the many of the problems attributed to the EU might owe more to Westminster than people realise.

GingerIvy · 24/06/2016 22:48

In some countries (e.g. Poland IIRC) the result would have been rejected as too close and therefore undemocratic.

The last time I checked, we were not Poland. I don't care what their policies are. It's irrelevant.

ManonLescaut · 24/06/2016 22:50

If it had been remain by 4%, there'd be no complaining from the remain crew that it was unfair

Actually I would have said it was far too close for comfort.

ReallyTired · 24/06/2016 22:54

It doesn't surprise that British politicans betrayed steelworkers in Wales by vetoing an increase in tariffs. The EU also prevents subsidies.

I suspect that many Welsh who voted out did so to stick two fingers up at Cameron,

ManonLescaut · 24/06/2016 22:58

I suspect that many Welsh who voted out did so to stick two fingers up at Cameron

If they did it's also two fingers up themselves as they've just lost Wales up to €1000 per head in EU funding.

ChipStix · 24/06/2016 23:00

Peppatina that comment was shocking.

I really don't understand how sending the economy into free fall helps British steel and the people of Port talbot. They gave even less power now. We are at the mercy of truly big business - forge workers rights, health and safety, pregnancy and maternity legislation, equality legislation.

I remember when we joined the EU and the grants that came into this country fur infrastructure improvements in the most deprived areas.

The whole country is in constitutional crisis now. We are all going to pay fur it literally through our higher mortgage payments, through higher cost of goods and services, inflation, higher cost of flights within EU.

And we are facing another independence referendum.

But it's the aftershocks - a destabilisation of Europe which is terrifying.

loobyloo1234 · 24/06/2016 23:02

Wouldn't you be upset in their shoes? Wouldn't the uncertainty cause concern? Some work in academia conducting European- funded research, others work in the NHS.

Chipstix - Again, I ask the question, what do they/you know that we do not? Why will they lose their jobs because they are German/Italian or Dutch? Where has anyone said they will have to leave - or lose their jobs? Why are you using made up 'maybes'?

This is why REMAIN lost. Do people not see this? The lies and the maybes

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 23:05

imagibe being upset at the prospect of losing your job.

I think that there's a very strong possibility that many Leave voters have actual experience of that already....

ChipStix · 24/06/2016 23:06

The fact is that they don't know. And they wont know for years. So they will probably leave.

GingerCuddleMonsterThe2nd · 24/06/2016 23:07

Port Talbot is the next town over from me, I have seen first hand what the collapse of TATA has done to families.

Port Talbot, Merthyr, Rhondda CT are in a shocking state, people are below the bread line and struggling. Child poverty is the highest in the UK.

I can see why they voted leave, these families literally have nothing to loose, so they've gambled their last pound coin. You can't blame them, they are in a absolutely shocking state.

A new shiny road connecting Talbot Green to Nantgarw means fuck all of you can't feed your kids.

SamWheat · 24/06/2016 23:11

I am shocked at the pomposity and arrogance of the poster who declared Brexiters must not be educated. It's this kind of attitude that lost Labour the last election

Another one of those completely agreeing with this. It's exactly this kind of sneering attitude that has people veering away.
If you feel unlistened to, ignored, and laughed at, you become disillusioned and wish for someone, somewhere to take a stand for you as all the main parties and the public sneer and dismiss.
For what it's worth, I voted In, but can see both sides. This kind of sneering attitude seriously needs to stop as EVERYONE needs a voice and if you write off a whole load of people with differing problems/views then you're going to have trouble.

ChipStix · 24/06/2016 23:12

I think people who voted leave, conflated the effects of Westminster austerity policies with membership of the EU. They have been sold a pup and their workers protections will be removed. They have been lied to.

But at least we are going to build loads of hospitals, eh.
