I'm feeling pretty shocked and scared right now.

Why did you vote for brexit?

Im neither xenophobic nor racist. there is however nothing wrong in saying I'm english and this is what this has done for me. I will move on knowing that i can now welcome people in far smaller numbers, rather than being made to and feeling oppressed.

Madbengalmum · 24/06/2016 07:48

Oh good, i really wanted to read another shit thread, dissing anyone who voted out as a racist! Really, well i guess the narrow minded ignorant individuals who think this are going to have alot of opposition.

The people have voted, the majority are out,let us move forward and work with the decision.

branofthemist · 24/06/2016 07:49

I voted stay. The royal family doesn't really bother me. The House of Lords does, however did they block some cuts in the last year?

But If I had to vote I would get rid of the monarchy and the House of Lords.

wispaxmas · 24/06/2016 07:50

I started to read this thread, then got very very VERY angry. So many of the out campaign's lies have infected people in this country. We are NOT 'full up': immigration CREATES jobs. Housing and school places are not a problem if we BUILD MORE HOUSES AND SCHOOLS.

I'm so disappointed in this country. So disappointed. Statistically it was the older generations and the poorly educated who have voted us out of the EU. And thanks to the uncertainty of having no plan in the meantime the pound had already plummeted to its lowest since 1985 and stocks are taking a nose dive, too. I am so angry that just a week ago I could have afforded to sell my house and move back home to Canada and buy a nice house in Toronto, but this morning just with the difference in the £ that's probably no longer possible. And ironically I've never wanted to leave more.

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 07:51

Im so happy

CancellyMcChequeface · 24/06/2016 07:51

The point is that we have the opportunity to control immigration. If it's in the interest of the country to have a certain number of people coming in, from the EU or elsewhere, we can allow them - instead of it being unlimited, which in fact disadvantages people from outside the EU who want to move here.

It's not as if leaving the EU is a declaration that our borders are closed!

I mainly voted Leave over issues of control and sovereignty. Yes, immigration is an issue, but I'd rather our government had the ability to make decisions about it, rather than being bound by European law. I'm not a fan of Cameron, but we can vote him out. We can't vote out the unelected EU officials.

SquidgeyMidgey · 24/06/2016 07:52

I hope the Leave-ers realise this likely means an end of moderate Tory leadership so I hope none of you depend on benefits to survive. How very, very shortsighted this country has become.

Mood slightly lifted by the SNP thinking they can stay in the EU without London footing its bills. The EU categorically told Scotland during the last indy ref that it could not stay in alone. However England may well need every last penny so if Scotland leaves and we shed the weight of the Barnett formula it might help a little.

wispaxmas · 24/06/2016 07:53

Oh, and we've lost our AAA S&P rating. Cheers.

Spectre8 · 24/06/2016 07:54

For everyone who says they voted leave because the EU is undemocratic: what are their feelings about the fact the UK has an unelected hereditary monarch as head of state, an unelected second chamber in parliament and a voting system which doesn't result in the number of MPs for a party reflecting its national share of the vote?

Monarch - does not interfere with our politics at all anymore so really does not matter if they are unelected

And I echo MangoMoons comments on the rest

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 07:54

To be totally honest i don't really care at he moment. Im just so glad that finally I felt I had a vote. Everything else can we worked out.

JamieVardysParty · 24/06/2016 07:54

I'd also really like non-EU DH to be able to move to the UK easily, for free (ie no insane visa fees) and on a whim without me having to earn over a certain amount first.

Despite the fact that 6 out of 8 of his great grandparents are English, that English is his native language, that the culture he grew up in is massively similar to that of the UK, he is restricted.

Despite the fact he has two degrees and works in an area that the UK are desperately needed, we just can't afford to go through the visa process. In my current situation, I also can't work FT at the moment, hence not being able to earn over 18k.

But if I was French, German, Polish, whatever - we could just walk straight in, take our time to work out where we want to live - all with no visa fees involved.

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 07:55

the :)

JaceLancs · 24/06/2016 07:55

I am not racist xenophobic or uneducated, and did not vote to join EU
However am shocked at many of the comments on here
Fear is a strange thing

almondpudding · 24/06/2016 07:56

Who are the 'poorly educated?'

FoggyBottom · 24/06/2016 07:58

All the posters on this thread.

If you voted to Leave because you wanted to protest against big business, bankers, austerity, etc etc etc.

WHY THE FUCK did you not vote in protest at our last national General Election?

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 07:58

I don't really do fear, i do excitement, I do a new era, I do lots of things. Once again i certainly don't do shitty sorry for yourself fear.

wispaxmas · 24/06/2016 07:59

Cancelly, I'm a non-EU immigrant (you might say 'Canadian Ex-pat', though), and I did not feel disadvantaged in the least immigrating here. It's a fucking ball ache, though, and I highly doubt the 130,000 EU nationals working for the NHS will want to go through that to stay.

I was planning to stay in the UK to get my citizenship (the Tories have already made it very difficult to do so for immigrants, even though I am married to a Brit, and my CHILD is a Brit - if it's this difficult for everyone I can't see the UK getting the influx of young workers it needs to pay tax to support the aging population), but I'm honestly feeling like it's not worthwhile. I was hoping I could wake up this morning feeling proud to be in a country that is open and tolerant and instead I just feel sick.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 24/06/2016 07:59

Because I wanted to afford constitutional change. I don't believe that the long term best thing for our country is to be closely tied to the EU as a political, legal and financial entity.

I voted leave as I believe that in the wider picture of things we are better having independence of government away from the massive mire of the EU.

My fervent hope is that we continue to welcome people looking to immigrate and bring their skills to our shores.

There will be short term pain, there always is at a time of radical change, but I voted out based on my hopes for the long term.

Next goal for me is to be able to vote for a viable, united and competent Labour Party at the next general election who can do something positive with the results and freedoms of Brexit.

Timetogrowup2016 · 24/06/2016 08:00

Very upset this morning.
God knows what this means for my little girl :(

wispaxmas · 24/06/2016 08:00

jamie, leaving the EU isn't going to cut the restrictions on non-EU immigration!

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 08:00

I voted leave and we did.. I'm proud and elated I did..

JamieVardysParty · 24/06/2016 08:02

And the pound is just stabilising from its wildly inflated high from the uncertainty pre results.

It was hugely inflated from speculation - now they are making a killing selling it and it will soon normalise. Just a market correction.

Hughes32 · 24/06/2016 08:02

The majority of my friends and family who voted leave did so because of "all the immigrants". They truly believe that our country would be better off without them and that they're all work shy, lazy people coming over to our country solely to claim benefits. The scary thing is a lot of other people feel the exact same way and I'm sorry but that does make them racist at worst or at best rather ignorant.

Acardwithbigletters · 24/06/2016 08:04

Likewise hughes

LittleLionMansMummy · 24/06/2016 08:05

Put those personal contingency plans into action as soon as possible today folks. Dh has a job interview for a higher paid job today (sadly it's a German company so who knows?) and I'll shortly be calling in to fix my mortgage rate for several years (though no idea how long will be needed). I got my euros for my holiday at 1.2 at 5am before the value of the pound depreciates further.

On the plus side, I won my office's sweepstake by guessing the leave, remain and turnout exactly spot on. Sadly I only win bragging rights as no money exchanged hands. And I don't feel much like bragging today.
