I'm feeling pretty shocked and scared right now.

Why did you vote for brexit?

As long as I can give my reasons without being rounded on then I will tell you why I voted leave.

I want Britain to control its borders. I'm sick of immigrants coming here so freely.
Britain's trade is being held back due to too many of our laws being made in Brussels and passed to us, we need to become a sovereign again.

Peppatina · 24/06/2016 07:20

Farage and as far as I know Boris have no say over how that money will or won't be spent at all as far as I know.

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 07:21

Im happy too

Hirosleaftunnel · 24/06/2016 07:21

I voted out so British law would no longer be subservient to European law. I voted out because I don't fancy bailing out Italy and Spain, and the Greeks, again. I voted out because I am sure the EU will implode in the coming year and first out is a good position to be in. I voted out because I'm not scared of change. I am not a racist xenophobe, in fact I was not born in Britain or the EU and have a foreign mother. We had to leave the country where I grew up as we were no longer welcome. I also get paid in a currency that is not the GBP but have assets in the UK so that evens itself out.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 07:22

I am excited for change, excited for the future and will weather the storm (ie the economy being considerably knocked) in order to make the best possible decision for younger generations

Me too.

Being educated to a higher standard does not necessarily mean being more intelligent, especially in everyday life.

AugustaFinkNottle · 24/06/2016 07:23

The trouble is, Tutan, that what you have voted for won't bring about what you want. This will make very little difference to immigration, and our trade will still be controlled by the EU because that is what we will have to agree to in order to survive - but we will have no say in the rules the EU chooses to impose.

Greenleave · 24/06/2016 07:24

There isnt anything promising from EU, in the last hour they even were so honest and stated that Britain, you already have the best deal you could get. No one wants uncertainty, no-one want to damaged neighbors relationship. For short term it could be tough, however as Britain isnt leaving immediately so it will smooth out the whole process. In long term it will be for the better. British people know they now have to work harder, there are more challenges, they could be on their own sometimes. However, they are willing and eager to do so because they are working harder for...themself, for their current life and future. I am a non white, female, city worker and I voted to leave. I know I have to work harder for the coming future but there is a future which I can decide.

Kimononono · 24/06/2016 07:24

I'm not surprised other countries are making a move towards a referendum of their own.

Summerblaze100 · 24/06/2016 07:25

I voted remain and am nervous how things will pan out over the next few years.

However, I'm baffled as to why people have to be racist to not want thousands more people entering the uk. I would be worried if Americans or Australians suddenly wanted to come here in their thousands too.

I have no issues with anyone because of their skin colour and have met lots of them and worked with them. But we are just a small island with limited resources and we can't cope at the minute with the vast amount of people entering. How is that racist. I don't get it.

Monzeitia · 24/06/2016 07:26

Uhmm, that's make me laugh when I heard about immigrants, like the British living abroad, does are not immigrants only britishHmm

JamieVardysParty · 24/06/2016 07:28

Wasn't able to vote, but supported out because I don't agree with certain tariffs.

I believe in looking outwardly and internationally - and that does not just include the EU. I want to create our own trade links with China, Japan, Australia, America, Canada, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil etc.

The EU was supposed to be about free trade, liberalism and democracy but has become the opposite of that. The UK have shown that we want the option to practice those virtues outside of the EU.

If the EU respond by shutting us down and creating trade restrictions or undemocratic measures, then that's not something I want to be part of anyway.

Basicbrown · 24/06/2016 07:29

Augusta there are countries that we can agree free trade with other than the EU. The EU stops us trading with the rest of the world. It is going to be tough in the next few years though. All this 'the UK's done well out of the EU' well London has done well, a few other properous places have done well but there are places with significant poverty and few jobs. FWIW I voted remain but it isnt as simple as the leave voters are a load of ignorant racists.

I do think we need a general election though.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 07:31

Agree Greenleave, that's why I feel confident and hopeful about the future.

smallfox1980 · 24/06/2016 07:37

The EU doesn't stop us from trading with the rest of the world. We actually have trade deals with 50 other countries through the EU

With the EU, these other countries, and the US we have 60% of our exports. the "rest of the world" make up 40% of our exports then, all 127 countries or so.

Greenleave · 24/06/2016 07:37

I am an immigrant and to any EU citizen, you can be a British too if you truly want to as you are not being discriminated, you are only being treated FAIRLY as everyone else in the rest of the world!

aliceinwanderland · 24/06/2016 07:38

Teacup - I can't see how this won't lead to scotland being independent. The snp already have their mandate for a vote. So are you going to stay in scotland in eu or move to England when that happens?

ManicPixieDream · 24/06/2016 07:41

Marking place. Am in absolute shock and want to look through the reasons in my leisure. Confused

MojoMoon · 24/06/2016 07:41

For everyone who says they voted leave because the EU is undemocratic: what are their feelings about the fact the UK has an unelected hereditary monarch as head of state, an unelected second chamber in parliament and a voting system which doesn't result in the number of MPs for a party reflecting its national share of the vote?

Cooroo · 24/06/2016 07:42

Can I ask here a question I posted on Facebook - most of my friends voted remain so I won't get an answer there. Here it is:
"Here's a genuine question for those of you who voted to exit - I need some hope!

In 5 years time, I come to you and say 'You were right! I'm so glad now that we left Europe.' What makes me say this? Full employment? A wage rise? The NHS back to full strength with no waiting lists and free dental treatment? Thriving happy schools that kids and teachers enjoy being in? A booming economy? Exciting work opportunities across the world? Cheaper housing?"

Really, please, tell me about the good things that are about to happen. I need to know!

Roonerspism · 24/06/2016 07:43

I voted Leave and am genuinely sorry to any immigrant who feels less wanted.

I genuinely feel that for the vast majority of Leave voters this was never about race or indeed being xenophobic.

However I feel shit.

beetroot2 · 24/06/2016 07:44

Im proud at this moment, never thought the average working class vote would matter any more. It does. Im so full of faith that things can now change .

Peppatina · 24/06/2016 07:45

Mojomoon I also find the House of Lords and to some extent the royals as Undemocratic.

However there wouldn't be much point dealing with those first when even they would be overused by Eu overlords Grin

All in good time...

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 07:47

Like having a monarch.

Don't mind the House of Lords as it is.

Would like PR instead of FPTP.

JamieVardysParty · 24/06/2016 07:47

Mojo - I genuinely think that FPTP system in the general election has contributed to this result.

As everyone's individual vote counts, people are feeling like they can make a difference. This is their chance to be listened to on various issues, regardless of if they are actually related to the EU.

The popularity of UKIP if we had a proportional representation system during the last GE should have been an indicator of the general public's feelings in certain areas and demographics.

Leave just realised this and built a campaign on it.
