Yes I have voted, but I am sick and tired of the unrest, I'm aware there has been a lot of discontent for a long time but its now feeling toxic and I want it to be over one way or the other.

I won't stop saying this.

If you didn't say something yesterday for fear of being labelled racist, there's a good chance that what you wanted to say was racist.

That didn't change overnight.

gotnewplates · 24/06/2016 09:36

"I don't mind if I am regarded as thick for feeling this way."

The tick usually don't Smile

gotnewplates · 24/06/2016 09:41

*thick although ticks are just as unpleasant as some of the vocal brexit posters on this thread.

scousesal · 24/06/2016 10:02

So being racist is now accepted .The vote was about leaving the Eu and I try and respect those who chose it but not the acceptance of racism.

pigsDOfly · 24/06/2016 10:05

Ah okay. So is that what a lot of the leavers on here voted for: the opportunity to be free to spew their racist bile and not be pulled up on it?

I suspected as much. Not sure I want to share a country with them tbh, particularly given my DCs cultural heritage.

cakeycakeface · 24/06/2016 10:06

What code said.

pigsDOfly · 24/06/2016 10:21

Just reading some of the comments on here - and other places - again. Makes me so sad.

Images of baying crowds of 'white British' with Union flags draped over their shoulders and bricks in their hands keep popping into my head.

This is not a good day for this country.

Thick they may be, but their words are chilling.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 24/06/2016 10:24

I'm horrified by all the "white british" comments Shock
When did this become about british citizens of colour, or natrualised british people of colour and foreign birth?
Do these people really believe that we voted for "white british" to have priority?

winkywinkola · 24/06/2016 10:40

Shariamom, how have you been a second class citizen then?

teacherwith2kids · 24/06/2016 10:48

Posted this elsewhere, also posting it here. In terms of getting a workable trade deal with the EU that does not hugely damage British industry, free movement of EU citizens is still going to be a consequence.

Remember that the EU has no reason to negotiate a trade deal that is good for Britain, as it wants to keep all other members so must not make our position look advantageous.

Se yes, we can control EU migration BUT it comes at the expense of high trade tariffs = higher unemployment = fewer jobs for people currently in Britain...so if the wish is to have 'more jobs and more prosperity for those currently living here' then unfortunately this looks unlikely to happen....

or is anyone else feeling unsettled and just want today to be over
BillSykesDog · 24/06/2016 10:55

teacher considering neither Canada or Turkey have free movement of people with the EU I would really question the worth and accuracy of that diagram.

teacherwith2kids · 24/06/2016 11:04

There is an interesting discussion on that point attached to the original of the graphic. There is provision in the agreement between Canada and the EU for much freer movement of people between the two

here

though not completely free movement in the same way as there is between the EU countries. I agree that the lack of nuance in the wording of the diagram is misleading, so I apologise.

teacherwith2kids · 24/06/2016 11:05

(I had looked mostly at the Swiss / Norway models, as that is what people seem to mostly think that we might get)

gotnewplates · 24/06/2016 11:20

"Do these people really believe that we voted for "white british" to have priority?"

Many do.

HatHardOn · 24/06/2016 11:35

'White British to have priority' sounds suspiciously too close to White Supremacy for my liking.

Gowgirl · 24/06/2016 12:48

Well its happened, every racist in this country has been vindicated, our economy has gone into freefall and half the country is celebrating while the other half is mourning.

I love to learn about culture, I hate someone telling me I can't be English in my own country

Give us some actual examples of when someone told you that you couldn't be English. Go on.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 24/06/2016 13:08

On the bright side at least David Cameron has the shittest legacy of any PM ever. Which is no more than he deserves.

AllegraWho · 24/06/2016 13:19

I feel like the gag has been removed from my mouth. I can speak freely with less likelihood of being labelled a racist. Those who call racism try to suffocate freedom of speech. Thank goodness that is being recognised on a large scale.
I don't mind if I am regarded as thick for feeling this way.

I.hate to be the one to break it to you, but you know, that's not what the referendum was about. You voted to leave the EU , and have won the right to do so.

You have not, at any time, won the right to be xenophobic and racist and not be called out on it. The rules of decent human behaviour and expectations not to "other" fellow human beings still apply.

Hope this helps.

gotnewplates · 24/06/2016 13:33

Honestly I think Blair's legacy is much, much worse.

Girlgonewild · 24/06/2016 13:34

Race discrimination law remains in place everyone as I am sure we all know and is unlikely to be repealed even in a few years' time when we levae the EU. The UK has always been and will remain a fairly tolerant country compared to many.

Leavetheblindsdown · 24/06/2016 13:36

HisName - I'm no fan of Cameron, but surely Blair helping Bush with the Iraq war and causing the current chaos in the middle- East will give Cameron a run for his money on the legacy front?

You can't say that the UK isn't making its mark on the world, can you?

Leavetheblindsdown · 24/06/2016 13:37

I would certainly expect compensation for discrimination of all kinds to be drastically cut (currently there is no upper limit). That's already been talked about.

Gowgirl · 24/06/2016 13:41

I had no idea that so many people I thought I knew held such rascist and inflamatory views till today.

OP posts:
Girlgonewild · 24/06/2016 13:46

EU law currently requires no time limit on discrimination claims ni terms of length of service before you can claim, whereas for unfair dismissal you have to have served 2 years with the employer and the damages are capped so I suppose that might in due course claim so bring your discrimination claims now before the law changes. I doubt we will be rushing to change many laws at first however.
