Yes I have voted, but I am sick and tired of the unrest, I'm aware there has been a lot of discontent for a long time but its now feeling toxic and I want it to be over one way or the other.

Whatever the outcome life will go on. Our wonderful country has been around for 1000s of years and we have been through more worrying times that this. The rain will still come down, we will still make fun of anyone in authority, our sense of humour will not let us down and our football teams will give us hope and then miss some penalty. it will be ok.

As I said before people are trying to do the right thing, they just must not have the same view as you.

Well said.

MunchCrunch01 · 23/06/2016 16:16

agree - my dad, who doesn't want any immigration controls at all, wanted to vote leave just down to his lack of faith in the effectiveness of the EU as a political structure but didn't due to the economic uncertainty it would create, the impact on jobs etc - he's certainly not any kind of racist, the debate has really plumbed the depths.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 23/06/2016 16:17

I don't know if this will help the anxious but I am still officially "undecided".

As such I think (short of not voting which I refuse to do) my only option is to vote Remain on the basis that Leave has failed to make a compelling enough argument to make me committed to Brexit and the uncertainty of the implications.

I have grave reservations about the EU but voting Remain provides a certainty that we still have the opportunity (to what extent is not clear, but it's better odds than if we left!) to shape its power and mandate.

Speaking to fellow "undecideds" (even at this late time frame before we cast our votes after work in a few hours) nearly all of them (6 out of 7) are coming to the same conclusion.

If we see that pattern nationally in the undecided voters I think Remain will win by a very credible margin.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 16:19

No adult I'm not. But your post together with others sarcastically saying that anyone who votes leave is less intelligent or racist, I find really offensive

You are finding offense where there is none. I never said (or thought), sarcastically or otherwise, that vote leavers were more intelligent or racist, in fact I objected to such posts.

However I think it's a symptom of the atmosphere that you think I am by default against you just because I voted remain

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 16:19

less

SuperMumNot · 23/06/2016 16:26

EatsShitAndLeaves - I don't know if you saw my post below, but you have just confirmed my third point i.e. that Don't Knows are more likely to vote Remain...

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/06/2016 16:26

A tiny bit of me wonders if Cameron et al actually give a stuff whether in or out because they have achieved a huge amount of division and confusion and ill feeling which whatever the result gives them an excellent opportunity to do as they will.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 23/06/2016 16:28

hobnob I believe that with pretty much all of my being

DailyMailEthicalFail · 23/06/2016 16:29

Ha!
OP come and live in Scotland.
We went through an IndyRef which was arguably far nastier.
Now we've had this.
And a 2nd IndyRef is part of the SNP plan.
If we go Brexit, sooner rather than later.
If we go Bremain, it is still part of the mission statement.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 23/06/2016 16:30

SuperMumNot - yes I did. I thought describing what's playing out with the "undecided" voters at work today as we chat about it might re-enforce that point.

DJBaggieSmalls · 23/06/2016 16:32

DS asked me to go and vote with him. We talked about the election, neither of us is happy with the whole referendum. We feel like we voted the least harmful way.
We got back and heard about the shooting in Germany.

I dont have a problem with Muslims. But I do have a problem with Islam. Any cult, group or religion that says 'kill the unbelievers' is not fit for purpose.

MrsDoylesTeaParty · 23/06/2016 16:34

There is an underlying tension in the country, especially here in Birstall.. The poll station is the library where Jo was killed outside so there was a police presence. I felt glad to have got it out the way. Who knows what will happen when the results come in.. There are people around who are very passionate about it, not in a positive way.. I would normally think people are being hysterical to worry things will happen but after last week I'm not so sure anymore.

Kitsa · 23/06/2016 16:37

DJ then surely you only have a problem with violent fundamentalists. Not Islam. Millions of people follow Islam and are peaceful.

Most creeds in the world say some horrible shit that its believers don't follow because they are not violent.

Why are your feelings about Islam relevant to the referendum?

Kitsa · 23/06/2016 16:39

Mrsdoyles yes I am in Bradford, not very far away, and it really has changed the atmosphere and made things feel very fraught. As how could it not I suppose.

pigsDOfly · 23/06/2016 16:40

A lot of lies, misinformation and uncertainty seems to have been the order of day for the campaigns from both sides. Yes, it is unsettling and worrying.

Nobody seems to have any idea what will happen if we leave. It's all: 'it might be like this' or 'that could happen'.

Nothing's clear and both sides seem to be making it up as they go along.

Part of my reason for wanting to remain is that to leave seems such a leap into the unknown, I fear though that that is the way the vote will go, and tbh I find it very worrying.

megletthesecond · 23/06/2016 16:40

snark I've gone a bit preppy too Blush. I have form for crippling anxiety

Oysterbabe · 23/06/2016 16:42

I'm interested to hear how Islam is relevant to the referendum too.

LatinForTelly · 23/06/2016 16:44

Quite, DailyMail , I cannot stomach the thought of a second Indyref. The feeling around the EU ref has been mild up in Scotland, I've felt, compared with the hatred whipped up 21 months ago.

And the irony of Nicola Sturgeon saying that she voted remain because she wants to be part of a forward-looking, welcome, open and inclusive country would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.

MidnightAura · 23/06/2016 16:48

I feel slightly anxious. I have a slight sense of deja vu as it reminds me a little of the Scottish referendum. That was a horrible time.

I'm voting stay, had a discussion with some of my family who are voting leave "to get our country back and close our borders" Hmm

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 23/06/2016 16:49

Good grief, what are you prepping for?? What's going to happen? ?

The80sweregreat · 23/06/2016 16:49

Daily, will the SNP still want another referendum if its a remain vote tomorrow? They want to be part of the EU.
I feel for you as your indy vote was even more nasty than this seems to be.

varvara · 23/06/2016 16:49

Scottish voter here. Reading the comments on this thread, I just wanted to say... welcome to our world Sad I don't supposed I should have been surprised at the way this campaign has gone - afterall, we produced the blueprint up here, e.g :

Weird, ominous atmosphere - check.
Polarized debate - check.
Discredited/unverifiable "facts" - check.
Bullying/aggressive behaviour - check.
Ghastly, dog-whistle politics - check.
Cheap sloganeering - check.
"Othering" of opposing side - check.
People being called traitors, quislings etc...
Bonkers conspiracy theories, e.g. you should take a pen to vote - check.
Televised "debates" which turn into what we would call a "stairheid rammy" - check.

Things we can look forward to in days to come :

Fighting.
Losing side claiming a moral victory
Losing side immediately start agitating for a re-run.
People who voted for winning side being blamed for every ill in the world.
Losing side claiming the result was a fix.
Yet more bonkers conspiracy theories involving MI5, "The Establishment", probably the Illuminati...

Ah, it's all so comfortingly familiar, can't you tell I'm getting all notalgic for 2014 and that referendums are my very favourite thing? (hollow laugh)

As an aside, can I just add that I believe people should ignore both campaigns, detach from the the rhetoric and vote for what they believe to be morally right. Neither campaign has covered themselves with glory IMO and people should not allow themselves to feel bullied into voting a certain way by politicians or keyboard-warriors who feel that they have the moral high ground - neither side does.

Incidentally, I'm thinking of starting an Anti-referendum party, if anyone wants to join me...?!

bacimamma · 23/06/2016 16:50

I am so worried that if there is a Remain majority, Brexiters will remain (sorry) bitter and become increasingly openly hostile to Europeans living and working in Britain. Am I just unnecessarily anxious or is his a very real possibility? Anyone else worried about this?

MidnightAura · 23/06/2016 16:50

Latin I am terrified of another Indy ref. It doesn't bear thinking about.
