To take some proper coffee to playgroup?

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:18

I go to only playgroup each week. It is on a monday morning and starts at 9:15. I usually drop ds off at school and head straight there with dd.
Most monday mornings are a bit manic and a lot of the time I find myself getting to playgroup having not yet had a brew of any sort.
I could really do with a coffee at that point.
The coffee they have is cheap shite nescafe instant stuff. It's horrible.
Wibu to either take my own proper coffee & cafetiere, which I don't mi d sharing as a little goes a long way. Or atleast take a decent instant coffee, which I won't want to share!

What 'type' of mum bracket would you put me in at your playgroup?

BTW I stopped going to a toddler group as they charged £1.50 for the same coffee you are describing! Yuck!

MarriedinMaui · 22/06/2016 17:22

Get one of these. Pour your cafetière coffee into it in the morning. If you heat the milk too it'll stay really hot. Take to toddler group. It's safer than a mug of instant pond water too as its no spill. Win win!

Boden travel cafetière arriving tomorrow after recommendations in this thread. Only a have instant coffee at work

PerspicaciaTick · 22/06/2016 17:27

I thought that most playgroups had banned hot drinks. The last one I went to made us sit around with cups of weak squash. Now that was truly shit.

bloodyteenagers · 22/06/2016 17:38

A colleague of mine uses one of these.

There's loads of different ones around just search French press travel mug. Makes at home, once plunged looks like a regular travel mug. Used mainly for fresh tea and the occasional coffee.

MostlyColouringIn · 22/06/2016 17:55

If you did that at any of the groups i frequent, Id be making friends with you pretty sharpish!

derxa · 22/06/2016 18:19

cups of weak squash Grin

Obviouspretzel · 22/06/2016 18:31

I would take it in a heartbeat, in fact i have done something similar before. Who gives a shit what anyone thinks, im not going to drink something i dont like just for the sake.

Or you could try these, they are groud coffee in a filter bag you fit over a mug, they taste pretty nice. www.nextdaycoffee.co.uk/syrups/flavouring-syrups/sugar-free-syrups/cafe-express-fairtrade-ground-coffee-bags-1289?source=Froogle&gclid=CjwKEAjw7qi7BRCvsr3N58GvsTkSJAA3UzLvvCubpS2Oaqteft0h1iOeq6LVUslbZzCek3GJxUyPvRoCTubw_wcB

Mov1ngOn · 22/06/2016 18:35

I take the travel mug (autoseal one linked above) with me to meetings at school etc. Stays hot for hours and brilliant for real coffee without looking weird.

vroc81 · 22/06/2016 18:40

Id be taking the cafetière, I'd be standing behind you if you had yours introducing myself with an empty mug in hand. There is no excuse for crap coffee, most crap instants doesn't even taste of coffee.

MyKidsAreTakingMySanity · 22/06/2016 18:41

I run two playgroups and a toddler's singing group (also in a cluster of villages so no Costas nearby) and that wouldn't bother me at all. In fact, I like a good coffee too and the closest good coffee instant I have been able to find is Nescafé Azera. (Soooo much nicer than that Gold Blend shite and a reasonable compromise coffee-wise)
Just as some people prefer their brews strong/milky/sweet/no sugar etc, there's nowt wrong with liking fresh coffee instead. So take your cafetière and enjoy.

I recommended the Contigo travel mug a couple of days ago Smile

BoGrainger · 22/06/2016 22:07

I bet someone has been agonising over whether to bring organic Elderflower cordial to the weak squash group Grin

FuckOffJeffrey · 22/06/2016 22:31

I used to be on the committee of a toddler group and its not something that would have bothered me. (That said we had reasonably nice coffee). You could just say you really dislike Nescafé so you have brought your own.

NotCitrus · 22/06/2016 22:47

I'm happy to drink instant, but would much appreciate it if anyone was sharing around cafetiere coffee! And figure anyone with the chutzpah to bring a cafetiere to a playgroup would probably be interesting to talk to, especially if they were a bit apologetic and said they were just desperate for a really good cuppa and hadn't managed it before leaving home.

When I was a student, a chap would bring a full kettle, cafetiere, coffee, mugs, milk and spoons and sugar out of a rucksack during Saturday morning lectures, and brew coffee for anyone nearby.

Theadora27 · 23/06/2016 00:10

I don't understand the point of this thread. Who gives a shit? Cheap coffee is absolutely vile and no way would I drink it simply for fear of how I might come across to strangers. Do what YOU want and what is most convenient for YOU. If people are nasty and gossipy they'll find something to slag you off about no matter what you're drinking

Turning up with a flask would be fine, but I think you might look like a twat if you bring a cafetière Grin

PastaLaVistaBBY · 24/05/2021 16:53

Whoops, zombie resurrected by someone hawking shit coffee Hmm

MummaCass88 · 24/05/2021 17:08

Cafetière, classic ha.

LookItsMeAgain · 24/05/2021 17:59

I wish there was an option to 're-hibernate' a reincarnated ZOMBIE thread....

queenMab99 · 24/05/2021 18:08

I always take my own coffee bag, or single cafatiere if i think people aren't going to provide decent coffee. Nobody expects tea drinkers to put up with instant tea, I hate tea, it is witches piss! Coffee drinkers should unite and insist on proper coffee, I am sick of being a social outcast becauseI dont drink tea.
