To take some proper coffee to playgroup?

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:18

I go to only playgroup each week. It is on a monday morning and starts at 9:15. I usually drop ds off at school and head straight there with dd.
Most monday mornings are a bit manic and a lot of the time I find myself getting to playgroup having not yet had a brew of any sort.
I could really do with a coffee at that point.
The coffee they have is cheap shite nescafe instant stuff. It's horrible.
Wibu to either take my own proper coffee & cafetiere, which I don't mi d sharing as a little goes a long way. Or atleast take a decent instant coffee, which I won't want to share!

What 'type' of mum bracket would you put me in at your playgroup?

Take a flask. There's no such thing as a 'decent instant'.

ilovesooty · 19/06/2016 15:44

Just take a travel mug or flask. It doesn't sound as though you'll be able to stomach the "cheap shite". If you took a cafetiere I'd think you were weird.

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:44

That's a good idea arched there's a charity shop in the village with about 6 cafetieres. I'll grab one of those.

justaweeone · 19/06/2016 15:44

I've started to make a cafetière of coffee at work
I share it and it's become a bit of a ritual so when I announce I'm making a coffee those who drink it instead of tea ask ' are you making proper coffee'

SapphireStrange · 19/06/2016 15:45

Would it fly at your playgroup if you breezily suggested a kitty for fresh coffee (if you do, say 'fresh, not 'proper', for heaven's sake, or you will be thought of as that mum Grin).

You could say 'I'll bring in the cafetiere and the first bag of coffee and we'll take it from there.'

If not, I'd just bring in your own in a thermos or travel mug. You can prep the machine the night before so you don't have to fiddle too much in the morning.

AngieBolen · 19/06/2016 15:45

By the time I got to toddler group I was so desperate I would drink any old shitty coffee and ate far more than my fair share of biscuits

But these days I take a travel cup to work, as my toddler days are over I still eat far more than my fair share of biscuits I was laughed at when I rushed in late with a cafetiere in my hand.

WorraLiberty · 19/06/2016 15:45

Probably best to bring a flask and then (as you're asking), I'd think you were just a little bit odd Grin

But mainly, I don't get the obsession with coffee a lot of people seem to have nowadays.

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:46

usual I fear it will kill me, it's that shit.

Grin andnow

I drink tea all day lizzie but I like that 1 coffee of a morn.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 19/06/2016 15:49

kill me

That sounds melodramatic quite frankly

justaweeone · 19/06/2016 15:49

and just be honest and say you aren't keen on instant !!
I can't stand instant coffee any more, rather go without

mirime · 19/06/2016 15:49

I don't drink coffee but wouldn't think it odd if you did bring a cafetiere!

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:50

Thank sapphire for the coffee etiquette lesson Grin I don't reckon many will be keen... I was called posh for using a fatface slouch shoulder bag as a nappy bag a few months ago Confused

OP posts:
justaweeone · 19/06/2016 15:50

Agree, it's really shit

Natsku · 19/06/2016 15:52

I usually take my own flask of tea to playgroup because they don't have decent tea. No one seems to think its weird (or maybe they're just polite!)

gunsandbanjos · 19/06/2016 15:52

Get the bodum insulated mug with the inbuilt French press and take it with you with coffee already made. It keeps the coffee properly hot for about 3 hours.

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:52

ilovesooty it was a response to usual's comment, saying it won't kill me.

OP posts:
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 19/06/2016 15:52

I'm surprised, I buy Nescafe if it's on offer, as opposed to my usual Tesco value instant. I obviously have no standards. Grin

It would be lovely if you took in a little hamper of biscuits, cakes and of course your nice coffee as a gift to the playgroup. Everybody would be happy and nobody will suspect it's because you think their coffee's a bit shit.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 19/06/2016 15:53

I run a toddler group. It's in a weird area, there's a middle class leafy avenues area to the left and a pretty standard layout working class terraced area to the right. We provide Yorkshire tea and lavazza microground instant.

This is because we have generous folks who donate to the tea kitty when they come each week so we buy slightly nicer stuff for them to drink, and stock up when it's on offer. Biscuits and bread are all from Aldi though:o

SapphireStrange · 19/06/2016 15:53

I was called posh for using a fatface slouch shoulder bag as a nappy bag a few months ago

Oh dear. Plan B then: take a thermos.

SapphireStrange · 19/06/2016 15:53

Actually, or find a different playgroup? That kind of thing would really piss me off.

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:54

That's great justaweeone also, can't get over how long that link was Shock

OP posts:
rookiemere · 19/06/2016 15:55

Sorry but yes, you'll look weird and uppity if you bring a cafetiere, plus they're always a bit of a faff to clean out so you'll end up with coffee grounds all over the sink which you aren't going to be thanked for.

Just buy something like this www.frugallivingnw.com/bpa-free-reusable-travel-coffee-mugs-with-sleeve-set-of-6-just-3-each-grande-sized-cups/ - they do similar in Waitrose in plastic for £3. I bring my mug everywhere and reheat the coffee in the microwaves at work. Bring the coffee round with you and if there isn't somewhere to reheat it at toddlers and it goes cold, then drink it before you get there and hava tea.

SapphireStrange · 19/06/2016 15:56

so you'll end up with coffee grounds all over the sink which you aren't going to be thanked for.

Here's a wild thought: the OP could clean the sink after she washed out the cafetiere.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 19/06/2016 15:57

I would love you if you bought a cafetierre/ nice coffee to playgroup and shared it with me.

Life is too short to drink pond-water esque nescafe instant.

If someone judged you for preferring to drink something tasty I would judge them right back!

Givemeabone · 19/06/2016 15:57

Yeah it's our local one so thought it best to go to it so dd can meet the children she'll be going to school with.
I'm a bit fed up with it though tbh
