I used to know a chap whose surname was Cowmeadow. His dad was a vicar - imagine the Rev Cowmeadow! I do hope he had a country parish.

Oldguard - I'll fight you for Redford! (and Easwood and of Wales!!)

dowhatnow · 18/06/2016 09:18

My maiden name was really common. Anything would have been better but I love my married name.

Crunchymum · 18/06/2016 09:35

Always loved Duvall when I was younger. Sounded so glam!!

TrivialBlah · 18/06/2016 10:26

My Mum's maiden name would have sounded quite glam if pronounced with a French accent, unfortunately the accent of the town I grew up in totally transformed the name into something totally different!

TrivialBlah · 18/06/2016 10:27

Actually a French accent makes anything sound glam!

MrsFancyFanjango · 18/06/2016 10:33

I've always fancied being a valentine

Mrs Fancy Valentine has a nice ring to it Grin

Macateer, McAteer, McAtee, or any other anglicised phonetic spelling such as McIntyre, is not based on a surname meaning 'son of a nun'.

You're right of course, pangur - I didn't notice autocorrect had "helped" my spelling.

I had meant to say Macatoor (not Macateer), sometimes spelt McAtoor, from Mac an tSiúr which does mean son of a (religious) sister, or son of a nun.

Not a common name, but I know a couple of proud bearers Smile

LeonoraFlorence · 18/06/2016 12:05

My DD1 went through a phase of referring to herself as 'LeonoraFlorenceMini Darling' after reading Peter Pan. I quite like Darling as a surname actually :)

Gatekeeper · 18/06/2016 12:06

Penhaligon

Tabsicle · 18/06/2016 12:13

I knew a guy who changed his surname by deed poll to Moriarty. I worried.

UterusUterusGhali · 18/06/2016 18:12

I always wanted Moriarty! Or Murgatroyd.

Failing that, Boa Morte. I heard of a footballer called Luis Boa Morte once. It would suit me.

Lndnmummy · 18/06/2016 18:14

ElbaBlush

elQuintoConyo · 18/06/2016 18:29

Winterpark.

Just has such a lovely sound and makes me think of frosty grass, mist and deer wandering around.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/06/2016 18:37

I have a friend who's surname is Gauntlet.

Shesinfashion · 18/06/2016 19:20

Schmoochypoos · 18/06/2016 19:32

GiddyGiddyGoat · 18/06/2016 20:27

unicornsfartrainbows · 18/06/2016 20:34

Bond

SparePantsAndLego · 18/06/2016 20:34

I love my surname but a second best would be Pankhurst.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/06/2016 20:46

deWinter (I love Rebecca). Or Jones. Both sound great.

I don't like my surname (it doesn't sound nice and is difficult for non-Irish people) but I am PROUD of my surname, as my dad did great things during the civil rights movement here in NI. My DH has a fabulous surname but I kept hold of my own thanks to my feminist tendencies and sheer pride of my dad.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 18/06/2016 20:53

Schmoo Shock small world! I wonder...

bigtapdancingpimp · 18/06/2016 21:05

I always wanted an exotic name like D'Angelo or Lopez. I married a Muslim but his surname was lame and didn't match mine at all.

I like Mavromatis though - it means Black Eyes.

Okay377 · 18/06/2016 21:17

mandatory and singing an acquaintance had that surname and his mum was a GP - Dr De'Ath Grin

Okay377 · 18/06/2016 21:20
