Anything that was easy to spell, or at least if there was more than one version I'd have the most common version. I've had two surnames people can't spell - one because everyone thought it was spelt a much more common way, one because it's genuinely unusual and a bit complicated.

I was a Smith, I took my husbands Arabic surname. I love it, it means 'Distinguished or Exquisite' in his language. It also means people think I'm Middle Eastern and get a surprise when they see a auburn haired, pale and freckled white woman if they've not seen my first name.

If I could have any name I'd be a Rainbow, I have a friend who is one. I was always jealous when growing up as Smith was sooooo boring when I was a teen.

My great grandfather was Lasseray, I want this name! I think it's cool and elegant.

But I like mine too. You can pretty much pinpoint half my ancestry to a few thousand miles' radius with it.

Ohh, my soon to be surname has actually come up which is funny as I'm not too keen as I would be the second person to marry into the family giving us exact names!

I know someone called Tony Handcock. He always had people call him toe knee hand cock and they would point to each body part as they said it

Someone I knew at college had the surname Bytheway. I love it, and it had me in stitches when they first introduced themselves to me, I just didn't get that Bytheway was their last name, just thought it was this phrase they insisted on repeating.

Hermione has stolen mine - I was threatening to change my name to that a few years ago.

I also like De'Ath, for how it pretends it doesn't say death.
