to NOT see what is wrong with the UKIP poster?

It shows a crowd of refugees trekking across country and has the strapline 'The EU has failed us all'

I think it's a really good point.

FFS the EU has failed these poor people , being turned away from one country to another.

Why hasn't this useless organisation, of some of the richest countries in the world managed to arrange its borders so that those poor refugees fleeing from war-torn homes where they fear for their lives everyday are allowed to exercise their human right to apply for asylum?

Why haven't the leaders of the EU arranged that those people are treated with humanity and decency and not drown everyday?

I agree with Farage that we should be able to control our borders. If we did, perhaps we could prioritise immigration to offer sanctuary to refugees like Germany has done.

And I agree that the EU is an ineffective and undemocratic organisation. If our Parliament was in control of immigration perhaps we could effectively pressurise our MPs to act and allow refugees into the UK in meaningful numbers.

Hearts - you're either incredibly ignorant or incredibly goady, or possibly both. Please don't help Farage with his pathetic campaign by further publicizing his racist bollocks.

228agreenend · 17/06/2016 17:42

Thought I would have an objective look at the poster.

I looked at the picture and read the words. Even though, I read that 'the EU has failed us all', I found my mind computing that the long line of migrants has caused the problems. The visual image processed quicker than the words, and by the time the words had caught up, I'd processed the migrants were the problems that caused the Breaking Point, not the EU.

That's the problem with the picture, its misleading.

Not sure whether i explained the above clearly,

The UK should take in some refugees from Syria's civil war, UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage has said.

He told BBC News Western countries should agree to take an allocation, but he did not specify numbers.

Mr Farage, who has led opposition to allowing open immigration from Romania and Bulgaria in the new year, said refugees were "a very different thing".

The UK government has no plans to accept Syrian refugees, saying it is better to offer financial help.

There is a responsibility on all of us in the free West to try and help some of those people fleeing Syria, literally in fear of their lives
Nigel Farage

Mr Farage said: "I think refugees are a very different thing to economic migration and I think this country should honour the 1951 declaration on refugee status that was agreed

"It was agreed with the UN and even through the European Court, which sadly has changed its role.

"But the original ideas of defining what a refugee is were good ones and I think, actually, there is a responsibility on all of us in the free West to try and help some of those people fleeing Syria, literally in fear of their lives."

FuriousFate · 17/06/2016 17:45

I've actually reported the thread. This is not the place to spread racist propaganda.

SoThisIsSummer · 17/06/2016 17:45

why not read what he actually said on refugees, then look at the poster again?

PacificDogwod · 17/06/2016 17:46

YABVVU.

The poster is chilling.
Anybody not being able to see the connection to historic events is either a bit hard of thinking or frighteningly ill-informed.

HTH.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 17:47

sothisissummer The point is actually not what UKIP's policies are but that the poster itself is horrific, since it tries to speak to fears about mass immigration of refugees in headscarves in a very similar way to the way the nazis did in the 30s.

Anna2000 · 17/06/2016 17:48

Hmm.

The decision to let refugees that are already in a 'safe' (ie EU) country enter British soil is the UK government's. Hence the camps in Calais. The UK opted out of a proposed EU deal to distribute refugees more evenly across the EU. This deal was designed to lessen the pressure on those EU Member States where refugees first arrive.

I think what this poster says, no, shouts, is that if we remain in the EU, at some point all those refugees will come to the Great British isles because should their asylum claim be successful, they will get EU passports. And the headline, 'breaking point', does not suggest that those behind the poster think that this is a good thing.

I find this poster shameful and racist and I cannot understand how it was ever allowed to be displayed in public.

SoThisIsSummer · 17/06/2016 17:51

In light of what he said see up thread, it seems to me - that the EU has failed us all? The refugees are wearing head scarfs? so F ing what?

Thats how the refugees at the moment happen to dress. They could be wearing anything and the message is the same. The west has not really done anything - the EU has done little to help these people and its chaos.

there is a responsibility on all of us in the free West to try and help some of those people fleeing Syria, literally in fear of their lives

tilder · 17/06/2016 17:53

Am finally beginning to understand why my history teacher said we need to learn about history. So we don't repeat it.

Doesn't seem to be working.

Fucking farridge.

RIP Jo CoxFlowers

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 17:56

sothis but the poster is not about helping people. It's about fear of uncontrolled borders and massing refugees. And unfortunately for all of us people are particularly afraid of muslim refugees at the moment. The language of the poster is nothing to do with helping people.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 17/06/2016 17:57

The EU has handled the refugee crises appallingly

But that is not what this poster is about it is to make people fearful that all those people are queuing up waiting to come here

AgnetaTheViking · 17/06/2016 18:07

You see nothing wrong with this OP? Really?

HeartsofOak · 17/06/2016 18:12

I disagree. I think the poster is saying look at how useless the EU is.

Instead of an organised, humane and decent agreement to respond to the Syrian refugees, we've got these poor people being shunted across countries in -0 tempratures, tear gassed, children trafficked etc...

That's how good the EU is.

And there's not a lot we can do about it, because the EU is so undemocratic that complaining to your MEP is like whispering in the wind.

I'm not racist. I don't support any form of prejudice. But I do believe in democracy and humanity. The EU is neither of these.

TheFairyCaravan · 17/06/2016 18:15

I'm scared for the future of this country.

How the fuck can anyone mis-read the message of that poster?

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 17/06/2016 18:15

Anyone who can't work out why is wrong with the poster and the sentiment it conveys is racist and more than a little bit stupid. End of.

HeartsofOak · 17/06/2016 18:16

Unfortunately agnata the image of refugees fleeing en masse is common.

This one is of refugees from Rwanda.

Seriously Hearts? Pull the other one...

CatsGoPurrrr · 17/06/2016 18:16

Disingenuous racism is just the same as full on in your face racism. In fact it's probably more insidious.
A few short weeks ago I thought I lived in a tolerant, liberal society, who cared for others.
Now, I am ashamed by the way people are openly being racist.
I am horrified by the 'othering' of whole swathes of society.
I'm sick of the way the referendum has brought the worst of people to the fore.

Jadenruby · 17/06/2016 18:16

UABU

Topcraft · 17/06/2016 18:21

Dear Heartsofoak,

If you'd like the UK to take more refugees, your MP is the person to petition. The EU would not stand in the way of Westminster increasing the number of refugees that the UK chooses to take.

You seem to be of a different view. Please point me to the EU law that would stop Westminster from deciding to do so. Many thanks

ThisPanCan · 17/06/2016 18:21

This OP is being horribly fatuous.

It's not dissimilar to the Tory Leavers who claim saving all that EU money can be spent on the NHS and public infrastructure. My arse.

Baconyum · 17/06/2016 18:27

I'm not racist but Hmm aye right!

RedToothBrush · 17/06/2016 18:27

Just a point.

Its obvious what this poster is. To an extent, its shock is part of its value. It allows Farage to control the agenda.

So take back control and talk about how we can take on board the message that Hearts is obviously trying to make, and lets discuss how we can help Syrian refugees.

Medecins Sans Frontieres has refused to take EU money today for not handling the refugee crisis better. Perhaps we can help them, by raising the issue with out MPs and encouraging the UK to do more for them.

ghostyslovesheep · 17/06/2016 18:27

So if we vote leave is Nigel proposing we increase the number of refugees ????

It's bollox it's nasty it does resemble nazi propaganda - sorry you can't see that
