to NOT see what is wrong with the UKIP poster?

It shows a crowd of refugees trekking across country and has the strapline 'The EU has failed us all'

I think it's a really good point.

FFS the EU has failed these poor people , being turned away from one country to another.

Why hasn't this useless organisation, of some of the richest countries in the world managed to arrange its borders so that those poor refugees fleeing from war-torn homes where they fear for their lives everyday are allowed to exercise their human right to apply for asylum?

Why haven't the leaders of the EU arranged that those people are treated with humanity and decency and not drown everyday?

I agree with Farage that we should be able to control our borders. If we did, perhaps we could prioritise immigration to offer sanctuary to refugees like Germany has done.

And I agree that the EU is an ineffective and undemocratic organisation. If our Parliament was in control of immigration perhaps we could effectively pressurise our MPs to act and allow refugees into the UK in meaningful numbers.

That's not the message the poster is conveying. It's supposed to make us feel angry that the Europe is awash with all these foreigners and we have to take them in.

I have no problem with satire, but it's possible that not everyone knows The Daily Mash is a satirical website posting spoof articles Lurking.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/06/2016 17:22

this is UKIP using the same sort of pernicious, divisive propaganda that the Nazis did.

The problem is it s not just UKIP anymore, not just fringe right wing extremists - it's gone mainstream - just seen a MNer on another thread arguing that Enoch Powel is misunderstood, and actually a really nice guy Shock (to be fair his speeches seem quite mild by today's standards Sad)

RedToothBrush · 17/06/2016 17:23

YABU.

I'm going to leave it at that.

Not even worthy of further comment.

HeartsofOak · 17/06/2016 17:23

Irene I'm saying that the poster says the EU has failed us all.

And agreeing. It's raison d'etre according to many is to unify and act in the common good.

There is so little democratic accountability in the EU that we have no mechanism to force EU leaders and the unelected commission that act in for them, to respond to the migrant crisis with human decency.

I think far from being deflected into a misguided comparison with Nazi propaganda, we should reflect on the inability of us, the UK population, to exercise any democratic accountability to those that govern the EU, nominally in our name.

Let's not beat around the bush.

You don't have to be a racist to want to control your own boarders.

Farage is a fascist.

As a Remain voter this is a moral dilemma I'm spared.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 17/06/2016 17:25

I'm finding it all deeply disturbing, ItsAllGoing. Deeply worrying - this slide to the far right.

LurkingHusband - the Daily Mash article is good. Because if I don't laugh at Nigel fucking Farage, I will cry. And we all laughed at Hitler during WWII

crappymummy · 17/06/2016 17:26

So Germany, who I believe are part of the EU are able to accept refugees but Britain can't because the EU leadership is undemocratic? And so has failed everyone?

That's what you think the poster shows?

amigoingabitcrazy · 17/06/2016 17:26

How is it racist to call someone brown if their skin is brown? Nobody ever suggests it's racist to call people white Hmm

My skin is brown. So I am a brown person...

notamummy10 · 17/06/2016 17:28

I don't know about anybody else, but there is a strong sense of irony regarding this poster and one of the points Brexit is campaigning about!

Itinerary · 17/06/2016 17:28

There's a reasoned debate to be had about how immigration is best organised, but the poster above is in poor taste to say the least.

The official Leave campaign has distanced itself from it, and rightly so.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 17:30

hearts The strapline is 'we must break free and take back control of our borders'. Then there is an enormous picture of refugees massing behind it.

It's supposed to provoke fear of the massing refugees

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 17:31

It's not particularly subtle

MrsLupo · 17/06/2016 17:31

I agree with Farage that we should be able to control our borders. If we did, perhaps we could prioritise immigration to offer sanctuary to refugees like Germany has done.

Is that really what you think Farage's position is? Really? Hmm

albertcampionscat · 17/06/2016 17:32

No it isn't, nearlyhellokitty. Long line of dark-skinned men and 'at breaking point'. Subtle it really aint.

UnGoogleable · 17/06/2016 17:32

You think a UKIP Poster with the words 'Breaking Point' is being used to argue for more compassion for refugees?

You think that UKIP want the UK to leave the EU so that we can serve the refugees better?

Really? Really ?

Taking disingenuousness and faux compassion to the max op

I've posted this link before but its worth a look particularly part about Australia.

EveryoneElsie · 17/06/2016 17:36

Is this some sort of reverse? Confused
Europe is brilliant, who wouldnt want to live here?

Savemefromwine · 17/06/2016 17:38

Yes is nasty but that's not really the most important point though is it?

The point is ukip are offering an attractive (to millions) of people who are worried about uncontrolled immigration, school places and the collapse of the nhs.

Now when they are deemed 'racist' for those fears or thick or stupid or misguided by the main steam parties and particularly the Labour Party it just drives them into the open arms of UKIP or worse as they feel they are being ignored by the political elite of all sides.

The political elite are now too late to the listening table and now in panic are resorting to preposterous scare tactics to scare people into voting remain.
Unfortunately in my opinion it won't work and we will be out of the EU by next week and it will be the fault of major Blaire, brown, and Cameron.
And of course the decision won't matter to them as they are multimillionaires anyway.

Sickening.

SoThisIsSummer · 17/06/2016 17:38

That poster says that we need to leave the EU to stop tge long line of brown people getting in to the UK

But the EU itself is referred to as a white fortress, keeping people of other nations out.

Farage, wants to encourage more people from places like India, China etc to the UK.

What we have in the UK and across EU from the EU is mass white immigration, if farage is so racist why does he want to stop that>

This is what I dont get from some posters arguments

Bubbinsmakesthree · 17/06/2016 17:39

OP, you are extremely naive, hopelessly misinformed or wilfully disingenuous.

I agree that the EU is failing in its responsibility towards refugees, but that sure as hell isn't what this campaign image is about.

SoThisIsSummer · 17/06/2016 17:41

drummer I find your post inappropriate as I do all the posts trying to link an horrific event with the leave campaign.

shame on you, even her BF has come out and said its wrong to do this.

SoThisIsSummer · 17/06/2016 17:42

You think that UKIP want the UK to leave the EU so that we can serve the refugees better?

Farage has said we should take more refugees in the past.
