to take my baby to hospital tonight

He'd had breathing problems since birth ( chest retractions/grunting/blue spells and nose flareing. ) and today he's been sleeping lots and poor feeding on top of his usual problems..the hospital says to take him up he's blue no blue speeds today fortunately so aibu

No cause found for breathing problems as yet and I've taking him so many times I really don't know what to do

I'm not quite sure what the last sentence means? But I would say if the hospital have said to take him to the hospital then you need to take him. They wouldn't tell you to take him if he didn't need to be there. I hope he is ok.

Yep, go now. Give them a really detailed history and I'd ask for an xray.

Tbh, if you ring 111 they may send an ambulance anyway. Dangerous putting a baby with breathing difficulties into a car seat as it can make it more difficult for them.

Either way, hospital tonight, asap

Count his respiration rate. If its close to 60 breaths per minute (or higher), then it's 999 for him, esp if he's going blue with sternal recession and nostril flaring.

When you get there emphasise the drop in feeding and increased sleeping as well.

How old is he? If you're worried, get him seen. You know him best. As he already has chest problems he is already a bit more vulnerable.
Any raised temp? Wet nappies?

Have they given you a contact number if you are worried?

I would want to do something - I would at least be trying to speak to a health professional. But if there's no number yes I prob would be wanting to take him in. (How old is he?)

His problems do seem bad but he does this everyday and it becomes normal. Am posting cos apart from my husband if got no one to talk to. Am gonna call 111 at least when they send him up I can say 111 did . It's hard to believe but they really don't seem to care. If u search my name you will find more info on detail

Last time I went they started talking about my fucking mental health like it's me with the problem no it shit docs like u not given a fuck about my baby he's 18 wks

Don't wait around talking to 111, they're awful and you'll end up waiting a long time to speak to the relevant people. If this has been going on for a while have you taken him to the GP?

It's very difficult when you have a baby with complex needs to look after - you sound exhausted and at the end of your tether Thanks

Never hesitate to take an unwell baby in.
I suppose out of hours they are more likely to simply make sure he's OK(isn) acutely and send you home again.
I assume he's got specialist follow up organised?

And yes, phone 111 if you feel there is the time to seek their advice.

I would take him in. Have they checked your little one's heart? My DS has a rare heart defect which was not picked up until 9 weeks, he had blue spells, poor feeding and was a very unsettled baby. Hope this is not the case for your little one, but definitely think you should trust your instincts and get baby checked.

When this happened to DS1 he ended up in HDU for a week. He never went blue and had no fever. Stop messing about on MN and get to hospital.

Don't be caring more about what the staff might think than your baby. Take him to hospital now. Good luck.
