I was once asked if my (traditional but not that common) son's name was made up as the mother asking me had never heard of it. I glanced at her daughter's book bag and spotted the name Destanee.

I was Shock

SamWheat

"Unique spellings are just daft. Why subject the poor sod child to a lifetime of having to spell out their name?!
No, you're not being all hip and "with it" by being cool with weird spellings.
Stop it."

No, I did it to two of my kids because my parents did it to me. I am that kinda mean. After the 1st 2, I got bored and the other 3 all have normal spelled names.

BikeRunSki · 15/06/2016 18:34

Lord it's even worse than Aimie, it's not Amy, Amey, Amie, Aimee, Aimy or Amee either...

Please don't let it be "Aymiie" , the mother of the Aymiie I know thought she was being so original.

[As an aside, the office building I work in is managed by Amey Facilities Maagement, whenever there is a conversation along the lines of "What is Amey doing about.." I have visions of my 4 year old DD Amy standing in Reception bossing people around]

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 15/06/2016 18:47

I know of a Jaxan.

As an aside I think that some people on this thread have posted very identifying lists of names in their classes, packs etc. Pretty unprofessional.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 15/06/2016 18:50

My old neighbour has 'Bethynie' written on his arm.

I think it looks like a thrush ointment.

Sherlocked1606 · 15/06/2016 18:53

That being said my name is actually a Mersenne prime number. 😎 My dad was into maths. 😁

SabineUndine · 15/06/2016 19:02

I can't stand mucked about spellings. Similarly I can't stand made up names, eg in the film Uncle Buck, his girlfriend is called Chanice, presumably Chantal + Janice. It's beyond naff. Girls seem to get this more than boys. There are thousands of perfectly good names to choose from, why inflict something like that on a child?

DramaAlpaca · 15/06/2016 19:11

Micheal is not necessarily a misspelling, its the Irish version of Michael. I can well believe that it is sometimes Michael spelled wrong though, and that is annoying.

corythatwas · 15/06/2016 19:11

Just found an Aimie on a 17th tomb. Her surname was Wiatt.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/06/2016 19:11

Sherlocked Is your name Mn=2n-1 ?

QueefRichards · 15/06/2016 19:14

DD went to primary school with:

Kkaitllynn
Nik-Cola
Teigha (Tia)
Brad-Lee
Bobi-Joh

Very fond of their hyphens round my way. Le-ah probably lives the next street over Grin

GhettoFabulous · 15/06/2016 19:17

Alan Carr did a skit about being served in a shop by a girl called Mmm-Danone. It's only a matter of time.

Sammy135 · 15/06/2016 19:17

My SIL's SIL has a Henri and Kylee. It pains me to write their Christmas card each year!

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/06/2016 19:25

Bethnee

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/06/2016 19:28

Oh and skallett.

sohelpmegoad · 15/06/2016 19:39

I had to register a Kortni the other day, it took me several goes to get the 'right' spelling

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/06/2016 19:44

There was a little girl called Tea on Dance Moms a bit ago. It took me a bit to connect that it was pronounced Tee-a. I'd automatically read it like the drink, and then thought it must be Tay-a. I think I'd spell Tee-a Tia.

Wizzles · 15/06/2016 19:47

Jaymes. For a girl.

spelling it wrong doesn't change the sex

Sherlocked1606 · 15/06/2016 19:57

No not quite although my dad would have loved it. No I ended up with a number like 3 but not that number. Only problem was I hated and ducked at maths.

WalkingBlind · 15/06/2016 20:00

As someone with a normal name that i have to correct every single bloody time because it can be with an "i" or a "y" YABU. I don't see why it bothers anyone at all. Oh and a last name that confuses everyone that you don't get a choice in. Eeeeeveryone has to spell out their names, you aren't doing the kids any damage by having to spell their names. Even John Smith could be Jon Smithe.

I don't see why names have to stick to one gender, one spelling, etc. I'm seriously judging with great big judgy pants anyone who gives a shit what someone else calls their kids.

Sherlocked I'm guessing it's Seven? If it is i think that's lovely Grin

RuggerHug · 15/06/2016 20:10

Off point but Sammy135 your SILs SIL? How many Christmas cards do you write?!

Watermelon2017 · 15/06/2016 20:16

My colleague's daughter is Eevee. I silently judge them every time she is mentioned and I'm convinced she'll change it when she's older.

FuckOffJeffrey · 15/06/2016 20:20

Everytime I see a thread on this topic I can't help but think of this meme. Grin
