My friends NDN has a May-Zee. Even has it tattooed on her arm.

Starlabear · 15/06/2016 20:27

Isn't Eevee a Pokemon?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 15/06/2016 20:27

Is there a valid reason for the spelling Nnatasha?

Why the second n?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 15/06/2016 20:32

Phteven! That is not Steven no matter who much you claim it is. Ph is an F sound not an S.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/06/2016 20:33

Eevee would have about eight possible names to change to I would think, depending in what she's exposed to Grin

CordeliaFrost · 15/06/2016 20:33

I know sisters (aged 5 and 8) who are Gabryella and Alyzabeth.

This is over in the States. The mom is a friend of my cousin.

Legit spelling but one of my friends little boys is called donnachadh (don-ah-huh)

Could that be the Irish name Donnchadh, sometimes rendered into English as Donagh (dunna)? It's pronounced dunn-uh-kha, or dunn-uh-huh. (Or don-ah-huh)."

There's a well known environmental writer called Donnachadh McCarthy. He is Irish and I'm sure he knows how to spell his own name.

Gide · 15/06/2016 20:40

My SIL's SIL has a Henri and Kylee. It pains me to write their Christmas card each year

Henri's the French spelling.

I know a T-Ala (English girl), Elisabeth (drives me nuts), Aimée (pretentious), Larna (cos the mum wanted to make sure it was pronounced properly despite the only famous Lana at the time being Lana Turner) and a Frederic (named after a saint of that spelling). I feel the pain of these poor people being unable to find a fucking key ring with their names on in Asda. :(

CocktailQueen · 15/06/2016 20:43

Tobie. Oh dear.

BrexitentialCrisis · 15/06/2016 20:54

Apparently there is a baby in Australia called...

KVIIIlyn

ConfusedShock

KoalaDownUnder · 15/06/2016 20:55

Henri is the French spelling, but unless they call him 'On-ree', it's a nonsensical choice.

JennyOnAPlate · 15/06/2016 20:57

There's an Amii in my dds class at school. It's just ridiculous to be honest and of course my dd now thinks that's how you spell Amy Hmm

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/06/2016 20:57

It's like when people call their sons Jorge...and then pronounce it George. It's ridiculous.

CinderellaFant · 15/06/2016 21:06

We know an Alfey Confused

BikeRunSki · 15/06/2016 21:14

Elisabeth is the German/Dutch spelling. Totally legit.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 15/06/2016 21:15

Elisabeth is ok I think
KVIIItlin is probably bollocks (see up thread many times)

Braceface2015 · 15/06/2016 21:23

Just laughing at Achymcaanderson commenting on the middle names May and Rae as these are my daughters middle names as well, just to explain May is the normal spelling as I prefer it and it's Rae not Ray as I associate that as a male name, hope that clears that one up a bit for you, different strokes for different folk's I say. All my kids have unusual names but spelt normally, I can assure you I'm not in the slightest bit" chavy" (still using this word on here I see- sigh)

bigbluebus · 15/06/2016 21:25

I've come across a couple in the local newspapers recently - and they weren't mis prints as I've seen them more than once in other places:-

Jaymz - he was about 16
La Reine - who when our paths crossed about 20 years ago was definitely Lorraine, so not sure what prompted the change spelling mid-life.

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 15/06/2016 21:30

Not a mis-spelling but years ago I worked with someone who was telling us about her friends daughter called Callie- only her name was Madison! Turns out her older toddler called her "medicine" instead so they nicknamed her Calpol, which in turn got shortened to Callie!

has probably killed thread*

Groovee · 15/06/2016 21:32

One of the foster mum's I worked with commented on spellings being given to children who were being removed at birth. She reckoned in the social media age that the parents aimed to use for finding before they would be legally allowed to!

Mae West was born in 1893. Granted Mae was not her birth name but it was not much later than that that she chose the name with it's pesky modern spelling.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 15/06/2016 21:41

Adoptive parents whose kids have krayzee spellings usually shift them to a more common spelling, or drop the hyphenated bit (add it as a middle name) if it's a hyphenated name, or shift the name to something very similar/a nickname. This is partly for anonymity reasons.
I really don't think parents are naming their kids with the thought of them being adopted in future though - very few parents are thinking their babies might be adopted when they go to register the birth.

SalemSaberhagen · 15/06/2016 21:41

A friend has a child named Eelyza. Which I find a bit of a shame, because the name is lovely as it is.

chipsandpeas · 15/06/2016 21:42
