Gender Reveal Party

I've had an invitation (via e-mail) to a "Gender Reveal Party". It's my cousins. I love my cousin dearly but think this is weird.

From what I can gather, the parents know what the sex of the baby is but rather than just telling us, they are having a party and a cake will be cut to reveal the sex. I presume the sponge will be coloured pink for a girl, blue for a boy (dont get me started on this old fashoned gender stereotyping)

To top it off, there is a link to a Babies R Us gift list!!

Before you tell me just to not go, I have to go. We are an incredibly close family, meet up 4 times a year for big family get togethers plus go on holiday twice a year together.

Other than saying I'm ill, there is absolutely no way I could get out of going. I'd be the only person in my family to not turn up.

Sounds like a pseudo-American scam to get even more gifts.

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 13/06/2016 19:39

Very disappointed. I was expecting a party where the host/hostess revealed their new gender.

And tonight, Matthew...

It gets worse!!!!!

E-mail:

"Hi everyone, we're so thrilled with the responses we've had to our Gender Reveal Party and can't wait to find out along side you what we are having. We have created another Gift Lift so you have more choice. It's at Mothercare"

So... they don't know what they are having. And they are even more grabby.

Argh I just Googled 'gender reveal party' and the first image is a cake that says 'Touchdown or tutus?' ShockConfusedShock

LineyReborn · 14/06/2016 08:13

So they're Gender Stereotype Reveal Parties?

mybumstinksofbeans · 14/06/2016 08:13

I saw that! Fucking awful.

I do like the "We're here for the sex" one though.

OP posts:
LineyReborn · 14/06/2016 08:14

...revealing a gender your child doesn't even know it has yet

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 14/06/2016 08:18

touchdown or tutus Shock
You've got to be a special kind of thick to buy into this shit

MidnightAura · 14/06/2016 08:23

Someone I know had a gender reveal party. I didn't go. Seems grabby to me!

Aeroflotgirl · 14/06/2016 14:47

My goodness, what planet are they on? Rude and grabby! Next, they will want a baby shower, and a welcome baby party once its here. Anything to extract gifts from people. Their behaviour would really get my back up, if you go, tell them that you would rather get the baby something once it is here, just give them a cheap bottle of bubbly and some Shloer for her.

throckenholt · 14/06/2016 16:39

oops - reading the thread title I assumed this must be someone who wanted to make public a change of gender (which seems to fitting to the times), but the actual intention is even more odd.

Are you secretly hoping they will have got the gender wrong and have to explain after the birth ?!

I presume this must be their first ?

No idea how to respond - maybe use the mumsnet biscuit.

RaeSkywalker · 14/06/2016 21:18

Oh Aero the "Little Man vs Little Lady" one is truly vomit-inducing.

Part of the reason we're not finding out the sex of our baby is to shelter it from some of this sexist crap, at least whilst it's in the womb.

originalmavis · 14/06/2016 21:20

I've just broken wind. Now where's my 'cabbage or boiled eggs ' party?

Aeroflotgirl · 14/06/2016 21:30

I know, it smacks "look at me" "look how wonderful we are", as if the whole world and his dog are interested in the sex of yiur baby! If I recieved one of these especially with a gift list attached, it would be an automatic no!

Aeroflotgirl · 14/06/2016 21:32

Tacky is an understatement!

RaeSkywalker · 14/06/2016 21:35

There were signs up in the sonography room saying that they would tell us the sex, but not "write it down in order that it be given to a third party". So it's obviously becoming more of a 'thing'!

Floggingmolly · 14/06/2016 21:36

They're so thrilled with it all they've created another gift list?? Who could possibly believe anybody else would give a shiny shite what you're having? Breathtakingly self absorbed Hmm

Terrifiedandregretful · 14/06/2016 21:40

The scariest are the 'rifles or ruffles?' And 'guns or glitter?' Invitations in your link aero. Shock

gunther73 · 14/06/2016 21:42

What if it's wrong?

Aeroflotgirl · 14/06/2016 21:44

I know, the ruffles and rifles, scarey and inappropriate.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/06/2016 21:46

Worse thing is, op cousin is on her first chikd. Sorry op that would get my back up, I just could not bring myself to go.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/06/2016 21:47

Third. Doh
