I don't like children in 1st class airport lounges!

Just that really....

A lot of airport lounges let people bring a kid in for free if the parent has a pass/1st class ticket.

I have a Loungekey because I have anxiety and need to relax/clear my head before flying.

However, I have noticed a sharp increase in the amount of kids in these lounges recently... Running around, picking at the buffet, spilling fizzy drinks... I find it stressful to watch!

AIBU to think that if you take your kid into a quiet/luxury area, then you make them be quiet and behave?!?

If they've paid, tough shit. It's not just for you, as much as I empathise with the flight anxiety.

I think the bigger issue is, children anywhere should behave.

Quiet... Well children make noise. But behaving can be controlled by the adults

So can you afford 1st class travel as well as your 'loungekey'? Their parents obviously can so they have every right to be there

YANBU. Really gets my goat, screaming beats ruining the ambience. Not the fault of the parents though, it's the airlines & airports allowing them to book in the first place

The lounges themselves aren't "quiet zones" so YABU. If you were in a special quiet room (which some of the lounges do have) and they were coming in there, then you would have a point. Otherwise YABU.

I always take my children into the first class lounge, why would't I? They don't run around though!

I don't like people pulling faces at me as I take my well behaved child into a lounge I've paid to use as part of my first class ticket, so it's swings and roundabouts, isn't it.

Well, of course you are being unreasonable as airport lounges are not specifically designed for people who have anxiety about flying. They are for people who have paid for a ticket or have frequent flyer benefits.

You are not being unreasonable if the lounge is designated a quiet area and there are children running around making a noise, in which case you should complain to those in charge of the lounge.

I have flight anxiety - fortunately I can't really afford a holiday let alone first class travel so this isn't a problem for me.

Sorry for being unable to muster sympathy for your first class, first world problem.

You aren't paying to not be around children, you're paying to be in the first class lounge which can be used by everyone if they pay too, including children whose parents have paid for them. First class doesn't automatically mean children behave impeccably.
Now if it was a quiet zone, I would agree that the parents should try to keep their children quiet. But as we all know it's not that easy. I simply wouldn't use a quiet zone as I know my children wouldn't keep quiet.

Having an adults only section is a great idea. They do this at our gym in the cafe/lounge area so I can get on with work in peace while the minority of children who can't behave go on the rampage in the general section while their parents either smile indulgently or weakly say "John, don't do that. John, sit down".
