I don't like children in 1st class airport lounges!

Just that really....

A lot of airport lounges let people bring a kid in for free if the parent has a pass/1st class ticket.

I have a Loungekey because I have anxiety and need to relax/clear my head before flying.

However, I have noticed a sharp increase in the amount of kids in these lounges recently... Running around, picking at the buffet, spilling fizzy drinks... I find it stressful to watch!

AIBU to think that if you take your kid into a quiet/luxury area, then you make them be quiet and behave?!?

The children are not the issue per se, the ineffectual non parenting is!

As for:

Excited children don't just sit down on a chair, as you want them to. They shouldn't have to, either.

Would you then agree with parents covering the dry cleaning or replacement/repair costs for my clothes etc when their 'excited' dc have spilled juice/food on me or ripped my jacket (as happen on one memorable occasion)? This isn't a first class travel issue, it's a basic respect for other people issue.

Just asked DH if that happens when he flies for work. He says he can't recall unruly kids in the Lounge. He said the noise is generally coming from businessmen laughing loudly to show that they 'get the joke' or the younger female partners of fat older men.

We could use his loyalty card scheme to use the nicer lounges when we are on a family trip but we don't leave a large amount of time to lounge about and we assume the children would get bored.

SquidgeyMidgey · 13/06/2016 19:07

No idea what a loungekey is, is it a free pass into the first class lounge area? If so then YABU, those kids have been brought in at cost. Actually either way they're entitled to be there, the behaviour is another matter entirely.

SooBee61 · 13/06/2016 19:27

Holiday in this country, thereby avoiding airport lounges altogether!

HarryElephante · 13/06/2016 19:33

YANBU.

I think childten should be muzzled and on leashes everywhere, not just in first class lounges. They just get in the way and make too much noise.

Whats the point of them?

happybee1 · 13/06/2016 20:49

YABU, they have as much right to be there as you do.
Impeccably behaved children really, some kids do have behavioural issues etc and it is not down to bad parenting. My DC

happybee1 · 13/06/2016 20:50

Sorry, cont, my DC has behavioural issues and people are always judging.

craftwhore · 13/06/2016 22:59

Have you thought about noise cancelling headphones playing something you find soothing for your anxiety?

cariboo · 14/06/2016 00:04

Hey, guess what! Money can't buy happiness nor the absence of children in first class.

FattyMcFatFace · 14/06/2016 00:18

Earplugs. Eyemask.

Petrachat · 14/06/2016 00:28

Of course children usually travel with the parents ( exept a friend who always put her child, with the nanny in coach !),therefore one must assume the children have 1st class tickets. Its unclear weather the OP has bought a 1st class ticket, or has a pass because of "travel anxiety". My suggestion is to take a cruise ship, thus killing 2 birds with one stone, the fear of flying, and mainly ( no pun intended), pensioners as co-passengers.

Worst lounge experience -- BA Club Class lounge at HKG Intl (shared with Qantas Business) and absolutely packed due to very delayed Qantas flights from Bali or some such back to Oz, hence rammed with pissed and pissed off Aussies who had had to go and buy shoes because the lounge had a dress code that specified no flip-flops/thongs! Mostly adults, though.
That was fun.....
Generally fly Club or Business, and haven't seen any problems with kids in the lounges. On board the plane -- well, that can be difficult at times. (There but for the grace of god.....)
But with the greater pitch between rows, at least you don't get the seat-back kickers. Grin

orangebird69 · 14/06/2016 07:47

I fly frequently and use the BA galleries lounge at T5. Always nice. Not too many kids. I do find the slightly horrified looks thrown my way when I walk in with my 7mo ds quite funny...

Hubby has a pass for lounges with credit card. I think it is access to business lounges not first class or the airlines lounge.

We hardly have time to use them, with check in, security, getting to the gate with the kids, there's never any time.

the last we used was last month, I was a bit apprehensive of going in with 3 kids under 6, but there was a separate room for kids with a play area and tv. The staff even played hide and seek withe the kids in the main lounge, not once were we made to feel unwelcome. Saying that if the kids had caused a riot or been noisey i would have put a stop to it lr taken them out if there wasnt a kids area. There was a buffet and menu u could order off. Not like the lounges in the uk.
