His face was a picture when Allison Pearson asked him to give it a rest, --put a sock in it, as all the men on the panel had their at turn at speaking and now 'she wanted to say something'
Priceless.

Also, why's he on it? He keeps butting in..

Feel now that would be interesting!

No idea if Hugh Grant's appearance is on YouTube OP. It was around the time of the Leveston enquiry.

Millie for a start, Farage has said he'd repeal much of the current anti-discrimination legislation. So, we're back to "no dogs, no blacks, no Irish", and he'd be fine with that.

And for a non-racist, he's amazingly comfortable with other racists, and they with him. Prominent party members have said things like that we should stop providing development assistance to "bongo bongo land", that some people are naturally suited to be slaves, that all Asian boys do is groom and rape white children, that "most Nigerians are generally bad people", that Jewish bankers financed Hitler, that dogs are smarter than Muslims, and so on and so forth. One or two bad apples is understandable - every party has them. UKIP's entire bloody barrel is rotten to the core.

He's a racist, sorry. (He's also a massively hypocritical one, since his ancestors were apparently Huegenots who fled to Britain escaping religious persecution, but there you go.)

Eddie Izzard was just plain embarrassing.....the lipstick, the hat, yes!! but worse, his behaviour

HeartsOfOak I didn't watch it. The whole "debate" bores me to tears, as does almost all politics on TV nowadays. I can't stand the premise that we must vote for whatever will make us richer, and I despise those who state as fact things that they cannot possibly know (i.e. what will happen in the future). I'm sure Eddie is as guilty as any other debater as far as the latter is concerned but I still think he's fab.

Izzard didn't make sense. He wasn't saying anything new, and what he did say was confused and garbled. I don't like his comedy either TBH.

Although all the vitriol won't bother him in the slightest; he has been through far worse

Criticism isn't necessarily 'vitriol'. His performance last night is certainly not beyond critical comment, and to dismiss all criticism as vitriol is lazy and overly-simplistic.

(No I'm not his mum)

Well obviously not, no. Most people with even a passing acquaintance with EI's biography would realise that it isn't possible for his mum to be posting on MN Hmm

EI has lost all capacity for critical thinking if he thinks liking heels makes him part female.

What happened to “They’re not women’s clothes. They’re my clothes. I bought them.” ???

Loved Alisons remark about there being enough male voices Grin He was ridiculous. All the world needs is love and understanding Hmm I realised that was a load of bollocks when I was 18

He made himself look a fool like or dislike Farage he understands better than anyone on that panel how the EU works that's why David asked him to confirm details on rebates and didn't he used to be a currency trader

As for him being racist not sure I would call him a racist but he knows that racists like his stance on immigration and will fire up their anger and I don't like that I think it's a horrible side of politics

But immigration is an important factor in our politics as it is for so many voters it won't go away by constantly labelling people racist because of their concerns

I really hope that the producers of QT have a look at this thread and realise that a once really interesting programme full of proper political debate has descended into the utter crap we saw last night.

as of people calling farage a racist. labour party and anti-semitic? I worked with Jezza back when he was on the council. he was not a pleasant person, certainly not a feminist or anything like it and was very much of the view that he was always ALWAYS right no matter what argument was presented.

I went to many rallies with Ken Livingstone and others where Jezza spoke against the EU as a hated institution that he wanted out of. so he hasn't changed his mind on this he is just giving out the party line. what a shame that none of the major parties had the balls to come out and say they were anti Europe. with all of them wanting to stay in what does this say about the diversity of british politics.

labelling people who want immigration controlled is lazy politics. just reminds me of the young ones and the rants on there.

What if Hillary Benn got to be PM when Hillary Clinton was still Prez? Am I the only one who finds that prospect quite amusing.

Izzard is famous for being a gimmick. If he didn't dress as a woman, he wouldn't even be famous.

he did make a little joke about this which I thought was really funny but most of the audience ignored.

I think JC has ended his career as leader by being in the remain camp

He can no longer put himself forward as the man of principle who no matter what the consequences stands by his beliefs

Foolish move but shows us who he really is and that a professional mp

Then again I thought DC was so popular when he became leader of the Tory party one reason being that he was a eurosceptic Confused but then again we don't always expect Tory MPs to be honest that why nt many leaving really cares that Boris is after his job they will still get behind him

Report
Winterbiscuit · 10/06/2016 11:21

Boris was writing Eurosceptic articles when he was in Brussels many years ago.

Boris may be keen to be PM, but then so, probably, is Osborne.

There are two sides to immigration, the good side when a person comes in to the country investing money and creating jobs, and the bad kind when a person comes into the country undercutting wages and taking the jobs our unemployed should be doing.

I have a huge amount of time for Eddie Izzard. Last night was a shambles however and he actually reminded me slightly of Russell Brand with his 6th form politics. Sad Many good points were lost amongst all the shouting.
There was certainly a point where he seemed to be promoting all the great and wonderful things he has done in the past (marathons etc) and that really made me cringe.

I also went off him slightly when he went to Scotland during the referendum and claimed that he was driven out as he was mobbed and people were rioting. It made for interesting case of how photos and stories can be cropped and manipulated to read how you want them to.

I really wish they didn't have celebrities on QT - it's the politicians I want to see being grilled, not some random famous person.
I too find the campaigns wheeling out celebs counter productive. I think this is especially true of the remain campaign. Getting people like Emma Thompson to urge us to vote remain is counter productive. People don't like being lectured to imo. I'm a remain voter btw.

DrDreReturns, I agree. Having a celebrity on QT is like inviting my neighbour on to lecture me (although my neighbour is often better informed and probably better mannered...)

The EU freedom of movement automatically discriminates against ex colonies and in fact everywhere non EU. It is blatant discrimination. It is the one thing that really makes me cross. An unskilled person from within the EU can work anywhere but from India you need a visa.
I am generally pro Europe but I do find this point difficult.
As for the polarised arguments on question time. Well they show everyone up as inflexible and a little stupid.

Farage and Sturgeon are both excellent speakers and debaters, unflustered and actually recounting information rather than bluster.

They are cleverer than most people give them credit for.

I've noticed that when Farage sees someone making a tit of themselves, he stands back and hands them some more rope.
(which is what happened last night with EI)

EI needs to stop playing with the 'big boys' Or get some training.
