I work bloody hard in a demanding and responsible job. I couldn't do it if I didn't eat. What makes them so bloody special that they can? Sod that for a game of soldiers. If I am ill I want to be treated by someone capable. Let alone all the other aspects of someone who has not eaten. It's bloody ridiculous.

Muslims have been fasting since their teens. The vast majority of them are perfectly capable of functioning normally throughout Ramadan. They adapt. And they love it! Ramadan is a wonderful time. Non Muslims imagine that fasting people are all resentful and cranky but people choose to fast and they welcome it.
I have fasted many times during Ramadan and unless it's a particularly hot day and you're outside all day you can absolutely function. I can work, drive, interact with other people perfectly well. Fasting here is not 20 hours, it's about 18 hours at its longest point and gets shorter.

The problem with her point (and tbf I've not read the article, only the thread as I will not feed that attention-hungry troll) is that it's not about public safely - it's pure Muslim bashing. Why mention bombers as well as taxi drivers? Is she concerned that bombers will be unable to do their jobs properly, therefore causing a threat to public safety? She doesn't give a shit about public safety - she just hates Muslims.

Ramadan fasting isn't exactly sundown to sunrise, it starts a bit before sunrise at the first prayer time.

I'm in Central Scotland (not the North) and it is light here before 4am and still broad daylight here at 20 to 10 tonight.

I have very close Muslim friends, one is a contractor whose contract recently came to an end and even she admits its hard and she feels weak especially in hot weather. As a contractor and in between contracts she is affording to take the whole month off as she recognises that she will not be working to her best ability.

I worked with muslims who were fasting during ramadan and they told me it was bloody difficult, my colleagues were computer progammers who said it was very hard to maintain concentration as they were so thirsty and hungry..

How do you know that your uber driver hasn't been drinking? Or that he isn't on prescription medication? Or has hay fever and has just taken a piriton that has caused him to be drowsy? You don't. You trust that that person has made the decision for their job and that they know their body themselves.

For most Muslims this won't be their first fast, they will be used to it and take steps to make it as easy as possible for themselves.

This woman makes me sad. What must have happened to her in her life that she needs attention so badly that this is how she goes about it? I mean, if she had talent or ability or intelligence then fine, but all she has is hatred and vitriol. I would be ashamed if I was her parent, partner or child. Humiliating. The woman clearly has issues and needs help, not more attention.

People fast for all sorts of reasons - religion being only one of them.

There are millions of Muslims all over the world, some are fasting in far harsher conditions than in the UK. They have been doing this for generations, they know what they are doing.

LastGirl, using Christ as an exclamation is not on a par with KH's vile bigotry, and to compare it is silly.

I think the not drinking might be more difficult on the hot long summer's days.

I can't believe you can be Ok with not drinking anything for 16-17 or so hours in the heat.
