To think that smoking in a cafe garden is selfish?

I was in a cafe for lunch earlier, beautiful weather so sat in the garden at the back to eat, and there were a few people smoking as they ate/drank.
I understand that it's an outdoor space, and it's legal, but to smoke in such close proximity to other people who are enjoying a meal, is just selfish.
I also understand that I could have sat inside, but I didn't want to sit inside on such a nice day.
It just really irritates me, can they not last 30 mins or an hour without a fag?

Yes.

It's either:

  1. Passive vaping gives you instant cancer (even in the garden).
  1. People think they have a right to never experience (or smell) anything they don't personally like. The whole world must be aesthetically pleasing to them at all times.
  1. Some people get a stiffy being morally outraged.

Yes, so essentially your need to smoke means I am restricted in where I sit. That's all well and good, but it does rather answer the thread title.

I used to vomit when I smelled most things whilst up the duff. On that basis, I think the following should be banned:

Rotisserie chickens in supermarkets
Perfume of any sort
Breadboards

Indeed, they are the same as cigarette smoke Hmm Wink

"Yes, so essentially your need to smoke means I am restricted in where I sit. "

It's a cafe, not A&E.

Sling yer hook if you don't like it.

Was that aimed at me, callow?

Pandora2016 · 06/06/2016 21:35

I'm upduffed.

Can I ban the smell of coffee? It's minging... Nobody NEEDS to drink coffee after all....

callherwillow · 06/06/2016 21:35

I don't like it, Pandora, and I do think it's selfish. But fear not, I expect nothing less.

Coldlightofday · 06/06/2016 21:36

Oh, yeah, that too Pandora. VOM

I think things actually making you vomit is more serious than just 'not liking the smell'

Fucking stinky chickens, I tell ya..

Pandora2016 · 06/06/2016 21:37

You think that drinking coffee is selfish? Technically you're right.

clicknclack · 06/06/2016 21:38

[smug] come to California, we have almost year round sitting outside cafe weather and no smoking laws [/smug] Somehow the smokers manage. Also where I live there is no vaping allowed in bars and restaurants. Which I am eternally grateful for, both make me cough like mad. Also perfume, wish bathing in perfume was not allowed!

Coldlightofday · 06/06/2016 21:38

How about eating prawns?

Totally shellfish

Grin
Arkwright · 06/06/2016 21:39

Why should a non-smoker, non-vaper have their life restricted because of your habit?

Pandora2016 · 06/06/2016 21:43

Anyway, if nobody smoked or vaped, where would the morally superior get their kicks from?

We're doing you a favour - giving you someone to feel superior to. Nothing feels better than the feeling of being supremely right, hell you even get a potentially, morally defensible position from which you can call people names!!! How thrilling is that!!

At age five, you called people poopy head.... Now you'd look a bit silly doing that, you call people selfish for producing a smell you don't find personally pleasing....

Ark, "your life"???

We're talking about a cafe garden for a couple of weeks a year....

Coldlightofday · 06/06/2016 21:45

I find superiority offensive.

So I choose not to stand near people who smell of condescension.

I think some people need to stay in more. So much frothing. Wink

Jelliedeels · 06/06/2016 21:46

Ark - Why should a non-smoker, non-vaper have their life restricted because of your habit?

Because legally we can smoke outside.

callherwillow · 06/06/2016 21:47

It's legal to wear perfume, so no problems then :)
