To think that smoking in a cafe garden is selfish?

I was in a cafe for lunch earlier, beautiful weather so sat in the garden at the back to eat, and there were a few people smoking as they ate/drank.
I understand that it's an outdoor space, and it's legal, but to smoke in such close proximity to other people who are enjoying a meal, is just selfish.
I also understand that I could have sat inside, but I didn't want to sit inside on such a nice day.
It just really irritates me, can they not last 30 mins or an hour without a fag?

I'd prefer if people do neither, they are both triggers for me for coughing spasms and are dangerous to me.

Well, on a serious note, I think most people understand that smoking, even passively, is harmful to health whereas annoying children and various smells are not.

I do try to behave in a manner that's considerate. This does include trying not to fart in public, not talking excessively loudly and so on, and if I was a smoker, this would fall into this domain, but I do think some of you rather enjoy the sense of 'rebelling' which is peculiar but ultimately it's your health, not mine. As you rightly say, I can walk away.

On an equally serious note, there is no evidence that outdoor passive smoking does any harm. Least none that I've seen in any large, useful study.

Well, it won't be long before it's banned will it. We will look back on these threads in a couple of decades and say how weird it was that people still thought passive smoking was ok.

All the pubs and clubs here allow vaping inside so there is no escape from that.

why the goverment dosent just outright ban it,but we know they make to much money in tax

even more pubs would shut,already the amount of people who drink at home has gone up and also people will drink at home before going to the pub is also up greatly due to the smoking ban

so if when any ban comes (doubtful) in i hope all the non smokers are going to single handed keep the pubs/bars coffee shops going as many smokers will just not use these places as much and smokers/drinkers are a fairly social bunch and spend a good amount in these places,these places will take a big hit and many will close make no mistake

Those who wish to smoke are restricted to the outside area. Those who are not smoking can sit inside or outside.

Yes. It is. I don't smoke, but will agree it is nice to sit outside on very warm days.

Here's an idea:

In the winter, smokers should be outside.

In the summer, smokers should be inside.

On all the half arsed, can't decide the weather days, smokers should hover in doorways.

Smokers smoke. It is completely legal. I'm a smoker. I don't smoke around....children, pregnant women, the elderly, and anyone who tells me they don't like it or have asthma etc. If I notice someone is eating I won't smoke near them.

But for gods sake, it is LEGAL. Write to your bloody MP. Or speak to the cafe owner. Or find something else to whinge about. And for those talking about car pollution, of course it's awful for children. Especially those in pushchairs. They are the same level as exhausts.

Btw, I tell you who I hate. Drunk people. I don't drink, but I don't start ranting about how antisocial alcohol is when people get lairy. I just leave the situation. Try it sometime.
