To think that smoking in a cafe garden is selfish?

I was in a cafe for lunch earlier, beautiful weather so sat in the garden at the back to eat, and there were a few people smoking as they ate/drank.
I understand that it's an outdoor space, and it's legal, but to smoke in such close proximity to other people who are enjoying a meal, is just selfish.
I also understand that I could have sat inside, but I didn't want to sit inside on such a nice day.
It just really irritates me, can they not last 30 mins or an hour without a fag?

YANBU.

I hate cigarette smoke.

EveOnline2016 · 06/06/2016 21:14

I quit over 4 months ago. These outside spaces wasn't created for the few weeks we have the sun. Business owners seen sense and made outside spaces attractive for smokers.

Yet non smokers come out in force every year demanding the outside spaces that for most smokers have enjoyed in all weathers.

I don't begrudge smokers having a smoke.

Yeah, Lynx causes cancer Hmm

Coldlightofday · 06/06/2016 21:15

Bloody cigarettes.

The addicts should take up smoking heroine instead. Smells much less.

Buckinbronco · 06/06/2016 21:18

Yes I could smoke a heroine. She-Es is probably best

Arkwright · 06/06/2016 21:19

Whether it's smoke or vapour it's not pleasant and should be banned indoors too.

I don't smoke but YABU. Where the fuck else are smokers supposed to have a fag? Was it like a huge crowd of chain smokers all breathing out in your direction? Because I've sat in many an outside garden around smokers and managed not to be overcome by fumes.

callherwillow · 06/06/2016 21:21

I'm sure you know there's a huge difference Derek, given that eating bacon and sausage doesn't impact on anyone but you and the pigs but smoking does.

Of all the revolting things people do in a public space, there are few as ignorant and as anti social as smoking.

Oooh yes. I hate that.

callherwillow · 06/06/2016 21:23

Yes, it is. Smoking is still anti social. Are you planning on listing every rude, unpleasant type of behaviour to me to justify why smoking is acceptable?

Coldlightofday · 06/06/2016 21:24

Dereck that might work. I bet you'd get all giddy and silly though. Best stick with the downers.

Buckin Is She-ra well know for being a skag head? Who knew? [shocked]

Pandora2016 · 06/06/2016 21:24

Arkwright,

Can we ban crap aftershave, perfume, BO and bad breath too? There's the same amount of evidence of harm to bystanders as there is for vaping.....

Ie, none!

You know what, some of you are right. I vape and don't give a fuck if you don't like the smell. In the same way that I don't give a fuck if you like my hair-do or my choice of shoes. It's not doing you any harm so why should I care?

You don't like - go elsewhere.

How on earth is smoking 'ignorant'? What is the smoker 'ignorant' of exactly?

Myusernameismyusername · 06/06/2016 21:26

I am not going to stop vaping at cafe tables outside, is that a thing people don't like too?

Making other people inhale their smoke, which is harmful, smelly and unpleasant.

Many things are smelly and unpleasant; not as many are harmful as well.

bialystockandbloom · 06/06/2016 21:28

Oh I love these threads Grin

It was only nine years ago the ban on smoking indoors came in. How on earth did people cope before that?

Oh I remember. There weren't so many sanctimonious arses around, people were just more tolerant, and most importantly there were adult places where the CHILDREN didn't trump all others.

Even when I stopped smoking I didn't mind the smell - actually just made me wistful and envious.

Smokers are selfish. Period. Despite their protestations.
