AIBU to pre-order a new Dyson Hairdryer

So they are aside from stupidly expensive not even out yet, so no independent reviews, but are available for pre-order.

I already have a much loved Parlux so have no real need for a new hairdryer but --irrational self justification to follow:

  1. I have long and very thick hair and the "PR" for the Dyson says it reduces drying time.
  1. It's temperature controlled and as my hair is very dry then it should help with its condition
  1. It looks great in the White/Silver combo (hate the grey/pink (why do manufacturers think women actually f'ing like pink bloody appliances Confused)
  1. I'm a sucker for a gadget

Anyone else considering buying one?

Defrizzing not defrosting! Grin Although it's probably good at defrosting too tbf.

peachlife · 06/06/2016 19:56

Excuse typo's!. 'pologies - baby teething, my head has fallen off.....though that would make parlux redundant...shut up peach......

peachlife · 06/06/2016 19:58

Defrosting Grin Grin

Thanks Enid! - heavy - hmmm - is yours a compact?. Maybe I should go for one of those in that case.....though free workout for batwings could be a good thing....

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/06/2016 20:19

That's mine too-same colour tooGrin

omg Enid and I are Dyson and Parlux twins!Wink

peachlife · 06/06/2016 20:20

Thanks Enid!. Think I am rather sold on that. T'is without doubt by far the sexiest hairdryer I will have had...

EnidButton · 06/06/2016 21:17

Dame This isn't doing my 'I swear I'm not stalking you' case any good. Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/06/2016 21:19

So I offered my (now defunct) Parlux to ESD but she's not been in touch.

I'll give it another week on PM, but if I don't hear anything then happy to send to another MNetter :-)

Pay it forward and all that!

Let me know if you are interested cos it's just going into a draw not to be used again...used the Dyson 3 times now and actually like it better than my initial review after I've got used to it.

I've been googling dyson products all evening now, DH rolling his eyes at me Grin

Eats, if ESD doesn't want the Parlux I wouldn't say no 🙈

Off to read your review on the Dyson but given the heat at the moment I think one of their swanky fans may win over the hairdryer!

dafuqisdis · 07/06/2016 22:52

Elchim! Why hasn't anybody mentioned the elchim? I don't want to be dramatic but I went away recently and forgot to take it and had to use the hotel hairdryer. I was almost intears as I'd forgotten what a ballache drying/styling was before the ol' elchim. I've got VERY thick hair, hairdressers wince when they see it and the elchim cut my hair styling down from 1.5 hrs to about 30 mins...

EnidButton · 07/06/2016 23:04

dafuq Which model do you have? Never heard of it but it sounds v good

fion · 29/06/2016 23:15

I did it and I am not sorry.
I took the plunge based on reviews here and I am so happy. YES they are stupidly and embarasingly expensive (especially bad as I work for a charity) but they are lovely, lighter, faster, more controllable, better frizz conrrol, quieter and just all round lovelier. S0 far I could tell the performance improvement with the dry on top of the esthetic improvements. It sparks joy (as it bloody needs to at that price!)

Purplemonkeydishwasherpimp · 29/06/2016 23:33

I so want one but i break hair dryers a lot, £300 is a bit too pricey...

highinthesky · 17/03/2017 09:48

Am resurrecting this thread because of the Dyson used by the clueless woman on "Shop Well For Less" last night. After 9 months on the market I thought there would be some reliable reviews, or it would have emerged as the market leader if it was so damned amazing!

Having read the thread I was convinced that I needed a Parlux for about 2 minutes. Then I realised my Babyliss does the job as well (my hair is not particularly thick but it is kinky-gerlinky and prone to frizz). So 5 mins on this thread has possibly saved me £70.

highinthesky · 17/03/2017 09:50

Btw this Amazon review for a Parlux made me lol.

bought this for my wife who works in hair and beauty.. she was extremely pleased and now my thighs hurt.

londonrach · 17/03/2017 09:51

Cant image it does any better than my 25 year old black £9.99 hairdryer. Never seen a pink one. All seem to be black. But if you can afford it go for it and report back here

Talith · 17/03/2017 10:08

I have the same boots brand 9.99 one I bought 15 years back. It's all hot blowy air isn't it so I'm confused how some hot blowy air is superior to other hot air! Grin Each to their own. Am off to Google this perplexingly expensive hot air generator. Sounds like Katie Hopkins.

Becca8675309 · 17/03/2017 11:09

I would go and test it in the Dyson store on Oxford St first. A few months ago I booked a proper wash and blow-dry with a hairdresser in the Dyson store (it was free, they had set up a proper hairdressers washbasin and everything in the store on the second floor). The blow- dry was admittedly lovely, but honestly, it was no better than the results achieved by my usual hairdresser using a non-Dyson. Also took same amount of time. I came out saying to my husband how glad I was I had tested one before buying one, given they are ridiculously expensive. PS I currently have a Parlux and am very happy with it.

Justanothernameonthepage · 17/03/2017 11:13

My hairdryer is insanely old so now think I'm going to look at buying a parlux based purely on this thread :)

highinthesky · 17/03/2017 11:49

Thanks Becca.

I had no idea that there is a Dyson store on Oxford St until I read your post! Have Googled it now so may have a play next time I have a few minutes to kill.

londonrach · 18/03/2017 04:30

Did i miss the review. Dont get me on dyson vacs. Mil loves them. I hate them as does dh but she just bought us a new one as a gift. It has a major problem....the cord has to wrapped around and then when you move it cord falls off it silly hocks and has to be rewrapped. Lift the wrong bit the hose falls off and did i tell you about the cord. One tiny move it flys off!!! Give me a henry!!!!!
