AIBU to pre-order a new Dyson Hairdryer

So they are aside from stupidly expensive not even out yet, so no independent reviews, but are available for pre-order.

I already have a much loved Parlux so have no real need for a new hairdryer but --irrational self justification to follow:

  1. I have long and very thick hair and the "PR" for the Dyson says it reduces drying time.
  1. It's temperature controlled and as my hair is very dry then it should help with its condition
  1. It looks great in the White/Silver combo (hate the grey/pink (why do manufacturers think women actually f'ing like pink bloody appliances Confused)
  1. I'm a sucker for a gadget

Anyone else considering buying one?

When I first heard of it I was interested....until I saw the price! £300 for a hairdryer?!?!?

newmumwithquestions · 31/05/2016 17:23

I don't own a hairdryer. I have never heard of parlux.

But dyson stuff is amazing. I have been waiting for years for our Henry vacuum to break so I can go out and buy a new Dyson one. Henry refuses to break. He's unbreakable. I even accidentally dropped him down the stairs. He didn't notice.

EnidButton · 31/05/2016 17:33

I've got a Parlux. My old Babyliss one dries my hair twice as fast and is much more powerful. I use the parlux to finish my hair off as it does smooth the hair and reduces frizz. But trying to dry my very thick hair with it was a pain in the backside. Don't understand why people say they're quicker.

Katsite · 31/05/2016 19:17

You could fly to Japan to buy one! DH tells me he saw it in the shops there last week already at an even more ridiculous price .

coco1810 · 31/05/2016 19:19

If you can afford it then go for it. Personally, having time to dry my hair is an achievement. Getting the straighteners through it is like winning the lottery!

Melfish · 31/05/2016 23:11

I bought a Toni and Guy stickered one from the local salon about 8 years ago but when I turned it over it's made by Parlux (embossed on the handle). It was about £50 at the time and still going strong.

e1y1 · 01/06/2016 02:34

Wouldn't part with my ETI Turbostratos for nothing. Had to hunt that bugger down (mainly an EIRE, product).

e1y1 · 01/06/2016 02:37

"Not getting the Dyson hate at all!"

Had 4 Dyson's over the years, IMO they're nothing to write home about.

They do the job of course, but nothing spectacular.

PuppyMonkeyBaby · 01/06/2016 02:56

With the name Dyson I'd expect it to be super-powerful and make you look like this:

dyson is a con man. his fan heaters are no better than a 10 quid one from the market.

they tried selling a lamp for 600 quid.

Backingvocals · 01/06/2016 11:31

I don't get the parlux love. I have one and it's heavy. Yes it dries my hair but so did the one I got for my 18th birthday and used most days for three decades. Probably cost under a tenner (thanks for the massive birthday present mum Grin)

disclaimer: I have straight, fine hair so not really a challenge to dry.

GeorgeTheThird · 01/06/2016 12:04

I had a Dyson vacuum and it was crap - heavy, didn't pick up any better than my old Hoover and the seal kept going. When I went to the market to get parts for it, the man said the parts I needed were the ones he sold loads of and Dyson were basically keeping him in business. I have a Miele one now, it was about £120, it's light and it picks up fine. And I haven't had to fix it or mess with it at all in 5 years or more. So I won't be getting a Dyson hairdrier, though I am quite tempted by a Parlux.

KoalaDownUnder · 01/06/2016 13:03

Huh. My Dyson V6 Animal is the best vacuum I've ever had (and I've had a few). Light, so comfortable to use, picks up everything.

(I am actually vaguely disappointed in my Parlux, though, tbh.)

EnidButton · 01/06/2016 15:03

I wouldn't get a parlux again. It's not powerful enough. When my trusty babyliss (£50) one gives up I'm going to have to buy another despite having a fancy, shiny parlux sat there. It just isn't up to the job.

AverysillyoldHector · 01/06/2016 15:06

If a Dyson hairdryer is as bad as its vacuum cleaners, good luck!

P1nkP0ppy · 01/06/2016 16:45

😳 £300!!!!
That's more by far than I've spent on hair dryers in the whole of my entire 63 years life!

mizuzu · 01/06/2016 16:47

if you can afford it then go ahead, dyson usually are good. I have the cordless vacuum its great for me as I hoover everyday

Finnchic · 01/06/2016 16:59

I think that Dyson is aiming mainly at the salon market - quicker and quieter drying

Dontcallmejudy · 01/06/2016 17:06

£300!!!! Ridiculous.... you have a hairdryer already. If you have so much money I am sure you have a local women's refuge that would be glad of a donation.

fabulousathome · 01/06/2016 17:41

I was thinking of asking for one for my birthday in Feb, when they have been tested by all and sundry. I'm now thinking I should go for the Parlux 385 instead.

I do like the idea of the weight in the handle of the Dyson though, the quietness and the magnetic accessories which have two walls so they are not super hot when you touch them. It seems to have everything I would want. I will read the reviews with interest in the forthcoming months.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 01/06/2016 17:56

Dontcallmejudgy - umm I don't have too, think you've proven that yourself Hmm

Proven what myself? Your response doesn't make sense.
