AIBU to pre-order a new Dyson Hairdryer

So they are aside from stupidly expensive not even out yet, so no independent reviews, but are available for pre-order.

I already have a much loved Parlux so have no real need for a new hairdryer but --irrational self justification to follow:

  1. I have long and very thick hair and the "PR" for the Dyson says it reduces drying time.
  1. It's temperature controlled and as my hair is very dry then it should help with its condition
  1. It looks great in the White/Silver combo (hate the grey/pink (why do manufacturers think women actually f'ing like pink bloody appliances Confused)
  1. I'm a sucker for a gadget

Anyone else considering buying one?

I'm slightly concerned about the magnetic attachments- I often knock off the Parlux ones and they're push on. I'm not sure what I do but they're always flying across the kitchen Grin

EatsShitAndLeaves · 04/06/2016 18:17

I was too Dame but they are actually very sturdy. The magnets are obviously very strong.

Feel - I'm not sure anyone has said you can save money with this???

I think you can save time though and I guess it's a question of what value you place on that.

If you have short hair that can be dried in 5 mins then I think it would likely be a waste of time, unless you just fancied one.

If you have long thick hair like me, reducing the drying time by 50% is a significant benefit - a £300 benefit- well again it depends on how often you dry your hair, what else you want to spend money on and how much value that time is to you.

To ESD - happy to make good on that promise of the Parlux now I'm happy with the Dyson if you want to PM me. Tx

Dame your parlux has attachments? Shock I have the compact one but don't remember attachments...

Actually it might have come with a nozzle thing. I'll have a look later when I can be arsed to move. Sure there isn't magnets involved though, that sounds very fancy.

EnidButton · 04/06/2016 20:56

Dame Oh balls ignore me, I read your post wrong. Blush It's been a long day.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/06/2016 20:58

Grin yeah I meant the nozzles!

EnidButton · 04/06/2016 21:01

I got excited thinking it might have magnetic attachments. Blush I don't even use the nozzle but it would've felt fancy.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/06/2016 21:03

Oh, sorry to disappointGrin

EnidButton · 04/06/2016 21:39

Maybe I could glue some on. Make myself feel better. 😔

I had a parlux and it was really heavy and noisy and I didn't think it was any better than my previous £20 job so in the end I chucked it. Just too heavy and noisy.

We have a GHD and it's great and contrary to a previous post it has lasted for 2+ years with constant use (me every other day, three children every day).

Will be interested to read the Dyson reviews but love my GHD one so won't be swapping it for anything any time soon.

justaweeone · 04/06/2016 22:02

Dh ordered myself one as a surprise!
I am very ungrateful and have suggested that I swop it for one of the cordless vacuums !!
I feel really bad

EatsShitAndLeaves · 04/06/2016 22:06

I understand from the review I posted in style and beauty that you can send them back within 14 days.

I can't vouch for this personally but it might be worth checking - have a try and see if you like it - assuming that's the case.

It would be interesting to see how it performs on different types of hair.

Re: the cordless vacuums...

It's good re: suction but I have 2 issues with mine.

The first is that the "dust bucket" fills up really quickly as its so small. You will end up emptying it a lot.

The battery only lasts 10 mins on maximum suction - around 15 on normal.

Also the idea that you press a lever and the DB just empties over your bin is, in my experience a myth. The dust gets compacted at the top and I find that most of the time I have to use a knife to scoop the dust out which is annoying and messy.

It is lightweight and easy to use - but it won't replace a regular vacuum cleaner imho.

£300 for a hairdryer? Shock

EnidButton · 04/06/2016 22:17

River I wish I'd got a ghd one instead.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/06/2016 00:00

I have the dc58 handheld Dyson - and upgraded it to the dc59 by buying a pole on Amazon!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/06/2016 00:02

I LOVE it,the crap it sucks up is disgusting. I empty it after every use though. I get 20 mins out of each charge which is fine for me.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 05/06/2016 01:28

Maybe I'm a slatten and I just don't empty mine enough Blush

I thought I'd posted on this thread at the weekend (TIO thinks I did too but can't find the post. Weird) with a tip about the Dyson cordless vacuums.

If you double press the dust bucket release button the entire dust bucket is ejected, so you can clean it out more easily. Very useful.

Unfortunately we discovered this by accident (not mentioned in the manual) and spent a good 10 minutes panicking that we'd broken a £300 vacuum in less than 7 days.

feellikeahugefailure · 06/06/2016 19:37

Sorry EatsShitAndLeaves - I for some reason replied to a friend on FB talking about this here Blush She believes it will actually save her money.

I've read quite a few really good reviews about this, I not sure if I'm becoming a capitalist consumer but I quite want one.

There's a competition to win one that myself and 500 other people have entered, I'm feeling lucky though! My day has to come one of these days. Then again I thought I was winning the lottery on that last big jackpot

peachlife · 06/06/2016 19:50

I was finger poised to buy a Parlux! - and then read EnidButton....and now am over here all like Confused

Think I will - a pp said from frizzy mess to silk (or something!) and that's got to be worth a whirl. Had never even heard of Parlux....oooo i loves a new beauty gadget which ends up in my bottom drawer unused

peachlife · 06/06/2016 19:54

oh. There is about 10 to choose from on the Parlux website. Quite like the look of the "3000 professional"....don't know why - says professional and is matt black - scientific isnt my middle name.

I have a chin length bob...anyone able to point me at a good one?

EnidButton · 06/06/2016 19:54

Peach It is good at smoothing hair and defrosting. Zero static after using it too. It just takes a long time to dry my hair with it and because it's heavier than my old one, I use that first and finish the last little bit with the parlux. I have very thick, slightly wavy bra strap length hair that's prone to dry ends, if that helps.
