AIBU to pre-order a new Dyson Hairdryer

So they are aside from stupidly expensive not even out yet, so no independent reviews, but are available for pre-order.

I already have a much loved Parlux so have no real need for a new hairdryer but --irrational self justification to follow:

  1. I have long and very thick hair and the "PR" for the Dyson says it reduces drying time.
  1. It's temperature controlled and as my hair is very dry then it should help with its condition
  1. It looks great in the White/Silver combo (hate the grey/pink (why do manufacturers think women actually f'ing like pink bloody appliances Confused)
  1. I'm a sucker for a gadget

Anyone else considering buying one?

I have seen mixed reviews - have never heard of Parlux.. Must investigate..

PurpleWithRed · 30/05/2016 23:13

I was all excited and about to pre order one but OMG ITS £300!!!

Mycraneisfixed · 30/05/2016 23:13

I have thick frizzy hair and have tried every product (shampoo, conditioner, serum, brushes, straighteners, dryers) ever invented. So I'll probably buy the wildly expensive Dyson hairdryer and it'll end up in the drawer with my GHD straighteners. People with smooth straight hair have no idea how frizzy hair dominates your lifeConfused

I ve got a parlux compact 385. Its no different to my old 10 year babyliss £17.99 one

SoupDragon · 30/05/2016 23:30

£300 for a fucking hairdryer? Are you mad?? For £300 I would expect it to magically give me "salon fresh" styled hair, not just dry it.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 23:30

Have had to confess to DH after why he asked why I'm glued to my phone.

He's done an eye roll, sighed and muttered something incomprehensible and asked if it comes with its own personal stylist....

I did point out that given he is somewhat challenged in the hair department he wasn't qualified to comment Grin

Cross post Soup - you and DH are on the same page Grin

To be fair his reaction is pretty much the same as mine when he talked about "wrapping" his motorbike.

'Tis why we have separate bank accounts - the key to a happy marriage - in this household at least Wink

You and Karl Lagerfeld's cat, ESAL.

Daily Mail link, sorry.

NKFell · 31/05/2016 11:53

I have a Dyson fan heater... is the hair dryer just a handheld version? I love it btw.

I have the Wahl Pro 2000 (£20) and I love that too.

Elle80 · 31/05/2016 12:06

I've got a GHD hairdryer. I like it. It dries my hair in about 5 mins (just below shoulder). I've had it for over 3 years and still going strong - I wash my hair every other day.

I've never heard of Perlux but it sounds interesting.

I'd really struggle to justify the cost of a Dyson one, but am really interested to hear your review of it OP!

londonrach · 31/05/2016 12:24

If its anything like the vacuum cleaners and the useless and unhygienic hand dryers in train stations etc id give it a miss and stick with my £5 travel hair dryer. However if you have the money why not but you have to report back to us!!!!!!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 31/05/2016 14:27

Can anyone recommend a decent high powered hairdryer that's fairly quiet at warp speed?
I'm not spending £300 but would fork out for something decent up to £100 ish as I have to wash and dry my greasy hair daily.
Or are salon quality hairdryers that sort of money?

Dachshund · 31/05/2016 14:30

My parlux was life changing TBH I had thick long frizzy hair and it tamed it into glossy silk in minutes! It's still fab now that I've cut lots of it off Grin

Madbengalmum · 31/05/2016 14:37

Parlux all the way, i think the dyson will be a fad, like alot of their other gadgets, even their vacuums are crap!

EatsShitAndLeaves · 31/05/2016 14:44

Tread - my current Parlux Compact is great and I would absolutely recommend it.

I'll frankly be surprised if the Dyson can better it.

Roll on June....let to battle commence!

"The shock £300 shock price tag would be a deal-breaker for me."

300 pounds for a hairdryer? No wonder they gave him a knighthood.

thatsn0tmyname · 31/05/2016 17:00

If it's anything like the Dyson Hoover and Dyson hand drier it'll be bloody noisy.

KoalaDownUnder · 31/05/2016 17:10

I bloody love Dyson vacuum cleaners and hand driers. And those funky oval fans.

Not getting the Dyson hate at all!
