Dd seems to think two vegetable spring rolls is an acceptable dinner after only eating half a slice of pizza all day. Please tell me this is not a meal. Must be another teenage eating habit. Hmm

Acceptable to whom?

MoreGilmoreGirls · 30/05/2016 19:46

Acceptable for me... Really want spring rolls now!

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/05/2016 19:46

It's fine, she's a teenager.

AdrenalineFudge · 30/05/2016 19:47

I don't think that's an issue at all tbh.

AgeOfEarthquakes · 30/05/2016 19:48

Well not every day but assuming no eating disorders etc I think that's fine if she didn't fancy anything else.

NeedACleverNN · 30/05/2016 19:49

If that's what she wants leave her to it.

You aren't eating it.

That is of course assuming there is no eating disorders to worry about

Patterkiller · 30/05/2016 19:49

I love abstract snacky food and on occasion I don't think it does any harm. Shove an orange in her direction for a bit of roughage.

pointythings · 30/05/2016 19:56

I have teenagers. Sometimes they barely eat. Sometimes they eat like horses. They are both a normal size and healthy. Unless you have reason to worry about eating disorders, let it go.

NotSoYumMum01 · 30/05/2016 19:57

I must be the only one thinking it's not enough. Her twin brother eats a lot more jacket potato for lunch and smoked salmon and veg for dinner.

Yesterday all she ate was 3 pieces of pasta . Seems to be quite often that she does this but friends and family think I'm over reacting and it's just a teenage thing Confused

SparklesandBangs · 30/05/2016 19:57

She's a teenager it's fine.
Mine sometimes eats like that, especially if there is no one cooking a main meal as she is too lazy to cook for herself.

Passthecake30 · 30/05/2016 20:01

I don't have a teenager yet...but coming from having food issues myself, I"d be wondering...does she make up for it on other days or does she always eat like that?

witchofzog · 30/05/2016 20:03

I have a teenager too. Albeit a boy. But I do have step dd's too, also teenagers, and this seems a worryingly small amount of good over 2 days. Can you monitor what she is eating at all, perhaps over a week to make sure this is a regular thing before you decide whether to talk to get about it or not? Perhaps you could buy in some easy to prepare or ready to eat food in case it is just laziness to see if this makes a difference?

NotSoYumMum01 · 30/05/2016 20:03

She's always like that. sometimes goes 2 days without eating. Always have a say in what's for dinner and helps to cook but doesn't eat it. She'd much rather have spring rolls or half a bagel with no butter or anything on it.

Excuse typos. Bloody mobile Blush

Shannyfanny · 30/05/2016 20:04

I use to eat noodles and a can of tomatoes for dinner as a teen, no idea why i liked it so much.

Shannyfanny · 30/05/2016 20:05

just read your replies, this might be an eating disorder, 3 pieces of pasta is not normal even for a teen

Wanderingwondering · 30/05/2016 20:05

Is she underweight?

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 20:06

YANBU - as a one off its fine, but if that's typical of her eating in general it's not great from either from a calorific or nutritional POV. I'd be a bit concerned tbh.

Guiltypleasures001 · 30/05/2016 20:07

Died say she's border line sleep walking into an eating disorder, it needs nipping in the bud. Is she hiding wrappers or anything in her room, going to the bathroom after meals etc.

Don't want to come across as dramatic op but as your already doing keep an eye on her

NotSoYumMum01 · 30/05/2016 20:07

I've been watching her for a while but doctor and family friends said this is normal. School nurse and teachers are concerned as friends have noticed she never eats lunch or anything when she's out and she's confessed to the school nurse she goes days without eating if I'm not there watching .

NotSoYumMum01 · 30/05/2016 20:10

She and a few days off school last week and the week before because of sickness but now I'm starting to think she's doing on purpose because it always seemed to be after dinner and always in the bathroom. Not sure how I go about asking herSad our current doctor is no help.

OP posts:
EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 20:11

I'm not qualified to say there is an issue, but I can say it's not typical of what I see in my 15 yr old DSD and her friends.

They do tend to "skip" breakfast but other than that eat what I would say is a normal lunch/diner.

IamAporcupine · 30/05/2016 20:13

as someone who also had food issues in the past, I'd say keep an eye on her.

SweetChickadee · 30/05/2016 20:13

Doesn't seem normal to me - I ate like a horse at that age.

WriteforFun1 · 30/05/2016 20:15

I barely ate anything as a teen and my folks drove me nuts thinking I had an eating disorder
I was fine
Just ate when I felt really hungry
Frankly I wish I could eat that way now!

When I got my first job I settled into meals but still skipped dinner a lot. Maybe it's hormones. I had boundless energy as well. If she seems fine otherwise, I'd leave it.
