To think seven Caesareans in eight years is a recipe for disaster?

What's happened to this woman is horrific, but surely having so many Caesareans in such a short period of time is recklessness bordering on insanity? www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3615027/Mother-eight-relives-nightmare-waking-C-section-discover-legs-amputated.html

You are repeatedly told about the risks of accreta after multiple sections.

However they don't always advise sterilisation after 3 sections of even 4.

Headofthehive55 · 29/05/2016 23:33

If the hospital had given her mismatched blood, or blood cross matched for another person, and this led to a massive transfusion reaction the hospital would be liable. Therefore, omission to act is just as serious. Irrelevant how she came to be there.

PurpleRainDiamondsandPearls · 29/05/2016 23:35

I missed that. Very sad. :(

I am using an example of poor care re blood transfusion, I have no idea whether or not the blood was ok, no evidence to suggest it wasn't.

But an error in giving the wrong thing is as bad as not doing something you should.

TheRollingCrone · 29/05/2016 23:41

Flowers I've reported your post, and this thread. Vile, vile, vile.

backwardpossom · 29/05/2016 23:42

Wow there are some nasty goady fuckers on here.

The fact that she's had 8 c-sections is irrelevant. What caused the amputation was not the section, nor the hysterectomy, nor the coma. It was the apparent lack of care while she was in the coma. If the aftercare was negligent, I hope she is fairly compensated.

Show some compassion ffs. I bet you wouldn't be typing these horrible comments if it had been her first section - it could have happened then, too.

Seven, sorry. Not eight.

Headofthehive55 · 29/05/2016 23:43

I dislike the fact people want to blame her, tell her it's her fault.

I've seen people become paraplegic as a result of their own recklessness. If the hospital were to fail in their care, would you not think the hospital is liable?

Flowers, it really isn't a good idea to get judgmental about other people when your posts make you sound so bigoted, unpleasant and narrow-minded.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/05/2016 23:46

I've reported too, this thread is like the Daily Mail comments section, bloody appalling!Shock

memyselfandaye · 29/05/2016 23:47

I've also reported Flowers post.

BillSykesDog · 29/05/2016 23:48

I thought that fairly recent advances had been made which meant that the 3/4 rule had been very much softened? I'm very ashamed to say that I know this from reading about Victoria Beckham's reproductive health. Blush

GiddyOnZackHunt · 29/05/2016 23:55

shazza women in the UK routinely had far more babies than 8 without any formal healthcare until 60 years ago. My nan was the youngest of 14. My great grandmothers were among the younger members of 10+ siblings.
Women died in childbirth #1.

ishallconquerthat · 29/05/2016 23:57

How can someone be blaming the woman? Of course it's stupid to have 8 c-sections, but if the hospital was supposed to check her every hour and they didn't, they fucked up her life. Because of negligence. Period.

PterodactylToenails · 30/05/2016 00:05

Poor woman. They didn't check her as they should have. I think she is right to sue.

MrsSpecter · 30/05/2016 00:05

Shock @ flowers! Seriously??

Tummyrumbled · 30/05/2016 00:05

The NHS Litigation Authority (body that is responsible for handling negligence claims made against NHS bodies in England) encourages NHS Trust to apologise to patients whenever things go wrong to patients.

I don't understand how some people can evade bans? It's not like she name changes! Same name, same old crap.

jellybeans · 30/05/2016 00:16

I have had 3 c sections and have never been told not to have anymore and I have horrific obstetric history. My 2nd c section almost killed me due to massive blood loss after a crash section for prolapsed cord. It happened shortly after I was in recovery. I went on to have another baby and had my 3rd section elective and there were no problems. However I was terrified (I have a history of stillbirth as well as traumatic births) . I was never told not to have more in fact they asked me if I wanted to retain my cervical suture in case I have another!

I have a friend who has had 4 sections. There were complications with number 4 but nothing serious.

Someone mentioned the dugger mum. I think she has only had 2 or 3 sections. Not sure about the Radcliffes.

jellybeans · 30/05/2016 00:17

So the point is not all hospitals warn about only having 3 or 4 sections

Cheby · 30/05/2016 00:25

The number of sections is irrelevant here. If what she alleges is true (and it appears so given the Trust's statement) then this was a serious failing in post operative care and this woman has every right to sue for compensation. It's good that she is doing actually; the resulting investigation will mean the trust should put procedures in place to ensure this never happens again.

If they failed to check on her they may fail to check on other patients. This has nothing to do with how many c sections she has had.
