This afternoon we were greeted with this visitor (pictured) in the garden. Turns out when we asked next door it was there and has been missing for 2 and half weeks and had last see it going under there decking. I'm frightened of snakes, we also have a baby ,a toddler and a 7 year old.

Am i unreasonable that they should of informed us it was lost and that they would let a snake (regardless if it's a pet snake) roam freely outside and end up in someone else's garden. The thought of my toddler picking it up not realising it was real or it going near the baby or 7 year makes my stomach turn.

You're being a bit precious. It is harmless and being a pet, probably wouldn't bite the children if they did pick it up.

Op said it was their pet and it is clearly a corn snake. Obviously it gave her a fright at the time but I wouldn't think to inform my neighbours if it was missing unless it posed a danger and to still be freaking out about how it could have come near the kids now that she knows its a pet is silly. Just laugh it off like you would any other lost animal giving you a heart attack. Next doors cat scares me shitless on a daily basis leaping off the shed roof and sticking his claws in my shoulders but I don't expect a warning when they let it out. As nicely as possible op, get a grip. around this fucking cats neck would be nice Grin

YANBU. It might be harmless in terms of not eating or harming you or the children.

If, however, my elderly mother came across a snake of any variety it would kill her. She has a really bad phobia and I don't doubt it would cause her to have another heart attack.

Neighbours should've told you to be on the lookout.
