does it bother you that men use this site also?

Sometimes very female skewed things are discussed and I can't help feeling slightly uncomfortable when I read: "Male perspective here..."

I'm sure I am BU but does anyone else feel the same? I am struggling to put into words why it bothers me but it does.

OP posts:
SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 28/05/2016 20:58

Nope I'm with Zombie on not giving a flying fuck who posts here. If posters are arses I just ignore them - male or female

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2016 21:05

No, I couldn't give a shiny shit what posters have between their legs.

I tend to reply to the post, rather than the poster. So if someone is being a wanker, they're being a wanker regardless of whether they're male or female.

I think the site needs more kittens.
And weasels
Lots of little weasels.

And maybe the occasional platypus.

Not bothered whether some posters are men or not, but more platypuses would be super.

HowBadIsThisPlease · 28/05/2016 21:16

"I also hate the way that, as women, we are pretty much culturally required to affirm how pro-men we are."

Yes, and to be accused of not liking men is to destroy that woman's argument, with no further content.

notice how this doesn't work with other things:
"let's close the window to stop the wasps getting in"
"you hate wasps!"
"..... and?"

as opposed to:

"Maybe this should be women only."
"you hate men!"

and somehow this is an argument?

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2016 21:18

I do wonder why some men on here have a NN that announces it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/05/2016 21:24

Maybe so they don't get accused of concealing the fact they're men, Sparkling?

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2016 21:24

If men are welcome why the need to conceal anything? Confused

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2016 21:26

Sorry worded that incorrectly, I don't know why anyone would be accused of concealing they are a man IYKWIM.

Newes · 28/05/2016 21:26

It's just being BillyBigBalls.

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2016 21:29

There are lots of NNs with 'mummy' in them though. I don't look at it like those people feel the need to announce they're female or a parent. I see it as just another nickname.

Newes · 28/05/2016 21:30

I see it as a woeful lack of imagination and yes, signalling how they see their role in life, rather pathetically

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/05/2016 21:36

I was just guessing, Sparkling - I could be wrong.

I thought that referred to the "mummies", Ego? Doesn't make a lot of sense if it referred to male posters Confused

TiggyD · 28/05/2016 22:06

It doesn't bother me that some men use this site. I do wonder what would happen if the number of men increased significantly though. I think the character could change quite a bit.

Floggingmolly · 28/05/2016 22:06

That said; I'm not sure where BillyBigBalls comes in Confused. Maybe I've misinterpreted Newes posts?

Floggingmolly · 28/05/2016 22:07

Aren't you a man, Tiggy?

witsender · 28/05/2016 22:11

Mansplaining is a thing, and I do see it quite a lot.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 28/05/2016 22:15

Some posters seem to launch into 'eek it's a man' territory without even bothering to read whether the post is useful, interesting, harmless or kind.

The same posters seem get a bit ridiculously obsessed about men posting.

I can't think of any out and out creeps I've come across on here, but then I wouldn't dream of going onto the sex topic which is where I guess most of them are.

ThatStewie · 28/05/2016 22:21

thecatfromjapan That's a really lovely thing to say. Thank you. Smile

madein1995 · 28/05/2016 22:22

I can honestly say I don't care one bit. Why should men have to announce they're men, women wouldn't like it if we had to identify as women on every website. Like another poster, I dislike the name 'mumsnet' and would rather 'parentsnet'. After all it's labelled as a site for parents, so why are only mums in the title? I think it's hypocrisy to not want men on here, and also creatin a more them and us attitude, where the men have their websites and women have theirs. Can't believe I'm needing to say this on 2016, but what is wrong with integration?

Asfor the pp who said they dislike it because some women post photographs on here and paedophiles might see them. What a load of bollocks. You do know you can get female paedophiles don't you, if not I suggest you google Vanessa George and Little Ted's nursery for a bit of education. Attitudes like that piss me off no end, and is the reason why so many males are reluctant to work in childcare. Which ends up biting women in the arse actually, because childcare is then seen as a job for 'only the girls' which because it's quite low paid continues the idea that women aren't as worthy or earning as much as men. Only men are paedophiles, pah! What a load of ridiculous rubbish.

If mumsnet stopped men posting then I would get rid of my mumsnet account, and I am a female. Because I do not think any members of society should be barred from certain activities because of their genitalia, or in fact any protected characteristic. If you want men to not be allowed on MN, so segregation, then I'm assuming you want the less nice sides to, eg a return to 19 bloody 70's.

I'm loving the double standards, because I bet the posters who are agreeing with OP would kick off if the tables were turned, yet limiting the amount of men on here is ok? First lesson I learnt in school, do to others as you would yourself. Everyone has opinions, fine. Doesn't mean those opinions should neccesarily be aired. And YES, I do think it would be extremely sexist and wrong to ban men. In fact, I think it's sexist to even say let's ban men.

chilledwarmth · 28/05/2016 22:23

It doesn't bother me that there women use this site, so I can't think of any reason why it would bother a woman that men use the site.
