does it bother you that men use this site also?

Sometimes very female skewed things are discussed and I can't help feeling slightly uncomfortable when I read: "Male perspective here..."

I'm sure I am BU but does anyone else feel the same? I am struggling to put into words why it bothers me but it does.

OP posts:
newtscamander · 28/05/2016 20:26

Yeh I always get annoyed when I read a male reply. Dunno why. We are both being unreasonable.

FirstShinyRobe · 28/05/2016 20:27

Not bothered, with the caveat of the tedious mra types. Even those who post at length only to argue against women are tolerable if only to present the opportunity of rebuttal.

I don't get why some post, though. Especially in relationships when they have clearly never read a single previous thread and are seeking a one voiced woman's reaction then get pissed off when that doesn't happen.

witsender · 28/05/2016 20:28

I'm with AF and MrsTerryPratchett, which I seem to say quite often. I get that this is a site for all parents, but it is primarily occupied by women. There have been some male posters whose posting style grates...a mixture of being patronising with "I'm one of the gals", but then there are some women on here who irritate as well I guess!

missmatted · 28/05/2016 20:29

All well and good sharknad0. Unfortunately there are some shrieking banshees here claiming that MN is a woman's space and that the whole world is a men's space

WellErrr · 28/05/2016 20:32

What a lovely post missmatched Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2016 20:33

shrieking banshees

Where? Confused

ThatStewie · 28/05/2016 20:35

I stopped posting for several years due to long-term male posters whose mansplaining was beyond tedious and, frankly, bordering on abusive in their dismissal was f women. Only just back and already tired of the 'from a mans perspective' which is inevitably followed by mansplaining twaddle

SoupDragon · 28/05/2016 20:36

I am getting a bit bored of the whiny arsed tossers who navel gaze for long, looooong threads.

Yes, because there are absolutely no female whiny arsed tosser are there? Hmm

SomethingLike · 28/05/2016 20:38

I think I've just been unlucky with reading a few male posters on here. The ones I read were all indulgent "love me" type things and "I'm such a decent bloke I RESPECT women and I'm attractive why can't I get a girlfriend help me wise Mumsnet!" They just seem so patronising and dreary.

I know there'll be blokes posting I don't know are blokes but the obviously male OPs I've written really irritate me.

I know what you mean, those always read like troll threads to me so I didn't get past the op.

thecatfromjapan · 28/05/2016 20:39

It's lovely to see you, though That Stewie. I missed you. Smile

Newes · 28/05/2016 20:40

There are a handful of knobbers who just come here to be patronising and whiny but on the whole, how would you know?

It would be wise to be careful in Relationships and Sex Topics as that is where the worst of them tend to gather. Feminism topics too, as they will do anything to shut down debate on there, the poor little threatened darlings.

missmatted · 28/05/2016 20:40

And this whole 'mansplaining' crap. Just because a man has an opinion it doesn't mean he's 'mansplaining'

Frrrrrrippery · 28/05/2016 20:40

I like that men use the site. What I don't like are posters that clearly hate men and who always give very one sided opinions.

I haven't seen any actually, soup

There's a special kind of male whiny arsed tossery that I think is very clear to those with a nose for it.

maggiethemagpie · 28/05/2016 20:43

Absolutely fine with it. Don't understand what the issue is tbh.

Frrrrrrippery · 28/05/2016 20:44

My favourite poster is PigletJohn who is definitely a male.

Newes · 28/05/2016 20:47

I've seen perfectly good answers from other posters passed over with pleas for PigletJohn to comment.
Which isn't a criticism of him, he certainly knows his stuff, but it was like they needed the stamp of approval of the male poster in a topic that is largely still seen as male dominated in rl.

BackforGood · 28/05/2016 20:50

No I don't have any issues with men posting - there are some really great regular postrs who are men on here.
So, yes, YABU

IfTheCapFitsWearIt · 28/05/2016 20:51

I rarely read the relationship board, so haven't seen the male posters referred too.

I occasionally see a male twat posting. But to me they are just a twat like any other I see.

I've seen prize pricks on the feminist boards, but then I see them as trolls and report. They are usually deleted.

Mummylin · 28/05/2016 20:53

Doesn't bother me one bit, in fact I like it.

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2016 20:54

I have the Relationship Topic & FWR hidden.

I never see PigletJohn either. So i must have the topics he is on hidden.

jjosiejo · 28/05/2016 20:57

Tbh it bothers me more that the site is called Mumsnet, rather than something gender neutral.

There is too much gender segregation in my world already since having children and I dearly miss having more banter with blokes. Plus, any men on here amongst the female majority are choosing to read and consider the female point-of-view (as much as there is any such thing), so more power to their elbows.

DailyMailYobos · 28/05/2016 20:57

I don't care if males use mn, they are as entitled to post as anyone else, just as posters without children post. Once they are not trolling or being goady/PA/rude, it doesn't matter to me.
