Or is the bloke I spilt my latte on

Getting on train today, when someone bumps me on their way past. I dropped my costa coffee (latte, 10 mins old) on table and some split on man's paper, sleeve of jumper and one splash on trousers

Me: oh god I'm very sorry'
Man: 'for Godsake'
Me: so sorry, are your hurt'
Man: 'No I'm messy'

Train bloke with trolley comes over with napkins.

Me: 'so sorry (takes napkins, starts cleaning up.'
Man: 'Can do it myself, stupid cow'
Me: 'okay, well I am sorry'

10 minutes later trolley man comes over and asks for mobile number, name and address as man has put incident in accident book. I ask if details will be passed to man and he says not sure so I refuse.

Then coffee man comes over and demands details. I still refuse. Pretend to get off at next stop and get back on 2 carriages down.

Trolley man comes down, spots me and again asks for details. I refuse and he says transport police may be called. They are not and I get off at destination.

Should I have given my details?

Bovversome spots a speciality.

And thank you Sapphire :)

Over a spilled coffee?? No way I wouldn't have given my details either! Might've offered to pay for dry cleaning, though it sounds like you weren't given the chance! No way would I give out my details!! I think you did the right thing OP

People now want to complain about the staff member!
Seriously?
You dropped coffee over a person.
Accident, yes, but you still did it.
It may have only been a bit but he obviously reported it to the train staff.
It goes in the accident book. They cover their asses. ( he could come back and say he was burnt).
Staff member could well have been telling the truth and not known if the person she split the drink on would be able to get the details.
The staff member hasn't done anything wrong, he hasn't harrassed you.
There was an accident and it needed reporting.
He wasn't threatening you
With the transport police, the bloke you slpit the coffee on could have asked for them.
This was between you two.

Can't believe people are having ago at rosie for how much she spent on a suit.
Anyone thought that she didn't have time to go looking for a primark or bon marche for a suit to match her bag and shoes?

Staff member could well have been telling the truth and not known if the person she split the drink on would be able to get the details.

That's precisely why he should be reported. If you're going to ask for someone's contact details you need to know a) if you're even allowed to and b) what will or may happen to them.

Someone here has said he had no legal right to ask for the OP's details. If he didn't know that, he needs some training. I'd say the complaints/damages/incidents procedure needs clarifying too.

Being splashed with coffee isn't a recordable "accident" Confused.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 28/05/2016 19:31

It would be if the person was scalded.

Floggingmolly · 28/05/2016 19:36

Well, yes. But he wasn't claiming to have been burnt. I had a toddler drip their melting blackcurrant ice lolly all over my skirt once, on a train.
That didn't qualify as an "accident" either, annoying as it was.
If he'd have progressed to attempting to poke my eye out with the stick, otoh, I would have informed the guard...

harshbuttrue1980 · 28/05/2016 19:43

I wouldn't have given my details out, so I don't think you were unreasonable there. However, you were unreasonable and a bit selfish not to offer some money for dry cleaning - he shouldn't have to pay a bill for cleaning his clothes because you spilled coffee on him

kali110 · 31/05/2016 14:26

If a person had coffee spilt on them that was a recordable accident at my work so i certainly believe it here.

SapphireStrange · 31/05/2016 15:10

It's different recording something at work and trying to ask someone for their personal contact details when you're not legally allowed to.

rosie he sounds like a dick!
I wouldn't know my way round a few cities. I really couldn't believe people having a go at you.
I had to go to a large city on a course.
I got a taxi from the station as i had never been there before and certainly would have not had the time to go looking for new clothes in a strange place had someone spilt their drink over me
