Just been watching 'eat well with hemsley and hemsley'. Their thing appears to be cooking healthy, gluten free food and being hip. Tonight they went to a mega fancy shop that stocked ridiculous ingredients like bee pollen at ridiculous prices. They also won't touch refined sugar, instead using maple syrup and date syrup. AIBU to think it would bankrupt you to eat like this and it's completely unnecessary? Sugar is sugar in whatever form no? What harm does gluten do to people who aren't ceoliacs?

I don't mind very healthy eating in itself. (I'll admit to having gram flour in my cupboards Smile) And my DD3 doesn't seem to be able to digest dairy very well.

What really makes my cross about this clean eating thing is how none of them seem to give a shit about the environment or the impact of the ingredients they're recommending. Almonds and avocados use crazy amounts of water to produce and usually come from 1000s of miles away.

We only eat meat once a week because of the impact of meat and dairy environmentally ( I've gone proper hippy in my old age Shock and Dh cheats when he's in work I'm sure) But it counts for fuck all if these people get half the country flying tonnes of almonds from calafornia every week to make bloody faux bread crumbs!!!!

Yesterday these twits made a 'delicious' chocolate sauce for their pea and mint ice-cream (!) by melting 6 tablespoons of honey with some cacao powder. Surely some melted dark chocolate would have been lower in sugar? And tested way better.

Agree, Julian.

YANBU I absolutely hate them and their smug faces and stupid 'clean' food.

I have autoimmune issues so have an interest in healthy lifestyle changes. I'll admit I don't really have processed foods and I do have big green smoothies but still...

When did it become de rigeur to take regular meals and make them "clean"? Surely you are better off on a mostly plant based diet, trying to
eat less processed foods, with occasional treats of the full fat kind? Not trying to recreate your diet of processed food by making the same meals with weird "healthy" ingredients?

The Diet Myth by Tim Spector is a fascinating take on the various diet facts we are told, it really opened my eyes to this "clean eating" business.
