to be annoyed by Hemsley and Hemsley

Just been watching 'eat well with hemsley and hemsley'. Their thing appears to be cooking healthy, gluten free food and being hip. Tonight they went to a mega fancy shop that stocked ridiculous ingredients like bee pollen at ridiculous prices. They also won't touch refined sugar, instead using maple syrup and date syrup. AIBU to think it would bankrupt you to eat like this and it's completely unnecessary? Sugar is sugar in whatever form no? What harm does gluten do to people who aren't ceoliacs?

Exactly, phlebas, he was a gem, he really was.

Always in some lovely sunny place, next to the water on a quay or something with loads of old fishing boats and beaches. Food looked fabulous!

And he was always drinking/drunk Grin

I agree! I have been secretly watching old cookery programmes on YouTube and they are actually useful! Farmhouse Kitchen used actual real old women who knew how to cook. Delia was refreshingly practical and dull. No lifestyle, no hints of what her lovely house looked like it suits of her entertaining her mates (Nigella, you stand accused). No attempt to be hip. Just a programme that told you how to cook.

I also retain a sneaking love of Food and Drink and the motley bunch of resolutely unattractive hosts that just told you about food and booze you might like without also telling you about their lovely Paris flat / home life with Joolz / the last time they had a party / gluten.

Craddock, it's time for a re-run. You are much mourned. And surely we can force Patrick back into the pantry? Or is he dead?

StrawberrytallCake · 01/06/2016 17:38

I love/d Floyd. Saturday kitchen still shows normal food without the ponce!

Still haven't managed to watch H&H, I'm scared I'll want to bin their books when I do.

phlebasconsidered · 01/06/2016 17:41

Old, I have been watching reruns where he is in charge of a narrowboat through Brittany. He is never without wine, cooks up a storm and seems to have people genuinely like him. The encounters never seem staged like Steins do. He also actually eats all the good like a real person would and drinks properly, probably one reason why the French like him.

He's on my fantasy dinner party table list.

squoosh · 01/06/2016 17:43

Floyd is Elvis
Stein is Shakin Stevens

oldlaundbooth · 01/06/2016 17:44

Sorry - he doesn't actual cook on the link - just drinks!

squoosh · 01/06/2016 17:45

Quite right too! Grin

squoosh · 01/06/2016 17:47

French cuisine has really been out in the cold since Floyd went to the great big brasserie in the sky.

phlebasconsidered · 01/06/2016 17:47

Exactly! Floyd is definitely on the side of cool. That's made me laugh. When the kids are in bed I'm taking a glass of wine or two and going through France with Floyd.

phlebasconsidered · 01/06/2016 17:53

It also strikes me that he never flibbertigibbeted about with recipes. If he cooks a French or other dish he accepts it is beautiful as it is and simply shows how to do it. Now, Stein et al all find a dish and then proceed to individualise it (fuck it up and show off).

That link is great. I miss him. He was funny and charming and not up his own bum.

oldlaundbooth · 01/06/2016 17:53

That Farmhouse Kitchens series is great!

squoosh · 01/06/2016 17:57

I've never heard of Farmhouse Kitchen before but I've just looked at some clips on Youtube. It's very soothing. She'd welcome you back in time from the ravages of 2016 and say 'Tinder troubles you say dear? No idea what that might be but dry your eyes and come sit by the fire. I've got some hot cross buns fresh from the oven'.

Dozyoldtwonk · 03/06/2016 19:57

Well tonight's ep was the absolute worst. Childrens recipes. Anyone watching? There's something about those two that's contrived & very unlikeable! A sort of double Myleene Klass Confused

parrots · 03/06/2016 20:11

Double Mylenne Klass is spot on! I find them unwatchable

MadameDePomPom · 03/06/2016 20:14

Oh I'm going to watch it just to annoy myself!

TheSpottedZebra · 03/06/2016 20:19

YES Dozyoldtwonk . In fact I searched out this thread just to see a bitch.

3 socca pancake pizzas between all those people?
Why are they only feeding the kids gluten free stuff?
What is pro biotic ketchup, and why are you using it?

That bb-ella stuff - faux Nutella made with black beans, A TON of honey, some vanilla, cocoa or cacaaaooww and 6 or 7 tablespoons of hazelnut butter? Huh? How much was that, exactly?

TheSpottedZebra · 03/06/2016 20:20

Just to have a bitch I meant! Not to see a bitch. I am the bitch, and I have a mirror.

Dozyoldtwonk · 03/06/2016 20:28

Glad it's not just me. What a pair of pretentious prats. Probiotic ketchup Shock

Don't forget the two heaped tablespoons of fat, yes it's still fat coconut oil in the bb-ella, Zebra Grin

disclaimer: not always this bitchy, but these two, ye gods

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 03/06/2016 20:29

I'm watching on catch up now. Cos I was eating a sausage roll before.

ladypie21 · 03/06/2016 20:34

Watched for the first time tonight. Those fish fingers looked rank. I used ground almonds once as a coating when I had no bread/breadcrumbs. It's gross...almonds are oily so the coating was just greasy and yuck! I was watching closely and only the little kids were eating very much. I didn't see the bigger ones digging into beetroot chickpea pizza!

MadameDePomPom · 03/06/2016 20:51

They've just spent £13 on a few tomatoes and beetroot....

toffeeboffin · 03/06/2016 20:54

Beetroot chickpea pizza? WTAF?

MadameDePomPom · 03/06/2016 20:58

Yes ladypie I was watching the fish finger making thinking ground almonds will never crunch up! A few panko breadcrumbs would have been a much better idea. But I suppose they contain the Evil Gluten.

MadameDePomPom · 03/06/2016 20:59

And I love making a chickpea flour pancake but I'd never even try and fool myself that they were anything remotely like a pizza!

The kids looked..........underwhelmed.
