Unwanted Gift

I held a class party yesterday for DD, and she received a gift from one of her classmates that we had given them a few weeks ago.
I think it's quite funny and she likes it, so all's well (but note to parents, if you are going to recycle a gift, probably not a good idea to give it back to the person who bought it in the first place Blush).
DH thinks it's outrageous and rude of the parents.
What does mumsnet think?

Eh... I do think it is a little bit rude.

My mother is a book hoarder (it's so bad there are about 30-40 large boxes through the house as well as several bookcases, you can barely move) and is one of those people who will ring up a few days before valentines/mothers day/birthday/christmas/easter to say "ooh well there is a lovely set on amazon that is 20% off I'd like that please thank you."

Last year I started to make a point of refusing to buy books or send her money which she could use to buy books. This Christmas I bought her a foot spa which I got back. I've also bought her a voucher for clothes which was given to my sister. Grin
