To think it's ok to be naked in front of your teens?

DP and I have always been very carefree about nakedness and as our DC (all girls) have got older I have picked up that they're no longer all totally happy about this. Recently this has come to a head with the youngest (18) saying that she really doesn't like seeing her dad wander round without clothes on. He's a bit resistant to changing his habits--he exercises every morning, then puts his sweaty gym kit in the wash, before working his way to the shower in the altogether. Our other two, who are older, are a bit more relaxed about it, in fact the oldest one says she's glad this was our practice, so that she knew from an early age what adult bodies looked like. (I can identify with that, as I didn't know until several years after I DTD for the first time!) I've been happy to try to avoid the DC seeing me without clothes on if it makes them feel uncomfortable, but AIBU to think that as this is our home, me and DP are entitled to live as we choose. NB. No nakedness in communal areas when we have house guests of course.

I'm guessing I'm going to get responses from all parts of the spectrum here, from "It's no problem, everyone in the family gets their kit off at the earliest opportunity" right the way through to "Actually, I have never seen my husband's body with the light on". But interested to see what the overall view is. AIBU?

Cory all I'm suggesting is that the call for him to automatically do as his daughter wants is not the only reasonable way to proceed. That there is room for him to talk to her about it and see if there is a way for them to both feel respected and at ease in their home.

Absofrigginlootly · 22/05/2016 18:28

No you weren't the only one, but your posts were very personal and aggressive. Just like those responses! There really is no need on what is supposed to be a supportive site.

I only mentioned it because you actually upset me with your posting, although I've been on MN just long enough to develop a thick skin so it hasn't devastated me don't worry Wink Grin So I was interested to read you saying that, that's all.

I'm certainly not saying that NT people are always right, or that non-NT peoples opinions are not valid, don't know where you got that from?

FutureGadgetsLab · 22/05/2016 18:28

You'll be in for a shock then because plenty of people with and without asoer

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 22/05/2016 18:29

Someone I used to,work with was actually taken to court for being naked in his own house. He could be seen through the window from the street.

The police didn't take into account his feelings that he wanted to be naked in his own house! Grin

FutureGadgetsLab · 22/05/2016 18:29

Asperger's who are worse than I am.

Sorry posted to soon,

FutureGadgetsLab · 22/05/2016 18:30

How on Earth did I upset you?! I said you were bring PFB and that nothing would have happened to your child. I said you were being a martyr.

Jesus I've had far worse said to me on this site and others!

fidelix, having grown up in Scandinavia, I can assure you that just because people swim in the nude and we have saunas and stuff, this does not mean a father would not respect his teen daughter if she asked him to cover up in the house. Totally different situation. Quite difficult to make assumptions about a whole society from a holiday snapshot.

FutureGadgetsLab · 22/05/2016 18:31

If you choose to take them that way that's not my problem.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 22/05/2016 18:32

future you sound like my emotionally abusive mother who happily says all manner of horrible things to people and then says its not her problem if people choose to be offended by what she's said.

future I'm bowing out now.

I don't want to derail the thread and it's obvious you are not going to change your mind

FutureGadgetsLab · 22/05/2016 18:34

So it's okay to imply I'm emotionally abusive, unempathetic and a bad parent (all things that you lovely posters have said on this thread) because you don't share my view, yet when I say anything I'm in the wrong?

Hahaha. K.

FutureGadgetsLab · 22/05/2016 18:35

Aka "I just wanted to join in the ganging up on and can't substantiate my claim" Abs.

fidelix · 22/05/2016 18:36

cory and NotYoda - I did get the impression that this was fairly typical for Germany, yes (though am happy to be proved wrong if there are any Germans reading this thread!).

They also tend to be more comfortable talking about biological functions eg toilet activities etc.

Obviously, cultural differences and all that, but I think they'd feel a bit sorry for us with all our needless angst.

Okay sorry that was rude, I'll ask for that to be removed. I apologise.

fidelix · 22/05/2016 18:39

It seems part of the over-sexualisation of modern society, where every male who is friendly to a child is now viewed as a potential paedophile and the body is viewed entirely through a sexual lens.

They're just bodies. We all have them. We're all naked underneath our clothes.

I haven't followed you. I haven't belittled you and I certainly haven't said anything horrible about your daughter. I said one insult to you. One.

I've asked for that post to be removed, I shouldn't have included the last bit. I'm not pushing you to say anything.

You seem paranoid.
