To think seeing an older lady curtesy to KM is sad to see

Just saw a photo of an older lady curtesying to Kate Middleton, I felt so sad to see it. Sad as to why anyone would feel the need to bow down to another human being.

Every day I shake my head with who people admire in this world and how the general public swallow all these pr machines. 😒

I know Derxa but she had a long time to get used to what she was letting herself in for. I feel for Diana, she was a child and couldn't have had a clue.

a common little social climber and gold digger

Ugh. Despite not being a monarchist, and someone who would never curtsy to anyone (I'd shake hands), I can't get the personal vitriol directed at KM, rather than the ridiculous formal position she holds. I've even seen threads on here which complained that she was lazy as she wasn't working through Hyperemesis gravidarum (or faking it).

She did have a graduate job, but my understanding was that the press harassment was so intense it was impossible to continue. So she worked for her family business. Lots of people work for their family business! I don't mind the Middletons - they seem close, and damn hard-working (yeah, it's party tat, but it's not arms sales). And they are now stinking rich - so hardly a need for KM to be a gold digger. But they are accused of being common little social climbers after starting off in working-class jobs. 'Doors to manual' and all that. Good on them.

Incidentally - if you accept the idea of class hierarchy, it's impossible to not socially climb if you marry the heir to the throne. You'd have to be an existing monarch not to!

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/05/2016 15:11

Some British aristos view the Windsors as mere arrivistes so presumably they'd consider marrying into the royal family as a social downgrade.

sleeponeday · 21/05/2016 16:15

There's often a big difference between a privileged life and a happy life.

But there's a statistically enormous overlap between mental health problems and poverty. There is stacks and stacks of peer reviewed evidence on the subject. Studies even show that there is a three times greater incidence of mental health problems in the most unequal societies, as compared to the most equal, with the vast majority of those problems for those at the bottom of the pile.

There is of course a difference between privilege and happiness, but it may not be as large as you assume.

Just5minswithDacre · 21/05/2016 17:14

I really hope she admires the nurse in our local hospital, the volunteers at the local animal shelter, people who work hard, who are kind, who see that wearing a £3,500 dress is a kick in the face for people who haven't enough to eat. Our world though seems to value and promote the vacuous as something to be envious of, how do you protect them from that.

That's really true.

Luxury and expenditure for the sake of luxury and expenditure is so widely exalted in our modern culture. So many slebs promote it. We don't need or want the RF to do the same.

Katie0705 · 21/05/2016 18:14

I do agree! However, there are occasions when the offensive comments are just too much, and a little bit of what is dished out is returned.

I don't give lecturettes, just full blown lectures....you are always welcome 🙂

CPtart · 21/05/2016 18:26

Why is it more sad because it's an older person. Are they more worthy than a middle aged or young person or something?

BonerSibary · 21/05/2016 18:30

And on those occasions, you look like a hypocrite.

You're not entitled not to be offended, nobody has to moderate their language to avoid upsetting you, and if you can't deal with this you might be better suited to an echo chamber. With that in mind, fuck the Royals, and all the dimwit serfs who defend them. And if you don't like me saying this, consider moving to one of the regimes in the world where criticism of the monarch isn't permitted.

derxa · 21/05/2016 18:47

and all the dimwit serfs who defend them That would be over 65% of the population then Grin

BonerSibary · 21/05/2016 18:51

I was actually just going to contain it to the sort of fetlock tugger who feels obligated to tell fellow peasants off for showing insufficient respect to our betters, rather than people who think, on balance, that getting rid of the monarchy and designing a new system would be too much faff. Fortunately for all of us, the 65% of the population who don't want a republic comprises plenty of the latter and isn't exclusively made up of the former!

derxa · 21/05/2016 18:57

Pheww! That's alright then. I would be bit worried about people who go round tugging fetlocks. That sounds dangerous.

MissMargie · 21/05/2016 19:01

What bitter and twisted posters.

And they're whingeing about the RF. Haha

BonerSibary · 21/05/2016 19:01

Well it seems to have left said fetlocks a bit crispy this thread. Be warned, serfs!

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/05/2016 19:07

The serfs will rise up and shake off their shackles, and their rather ripe smelling smocks.

BonerSibary · 21/05/2016 19:10

And their fetlocks, forelocks and whatever else they can get their hands on.

derxa · 21/05/2016 19:20

Pitchforks at the ready!!!

Bettercallsaul1 · 21/05/2016 19:25

I don't believe that Kate Middleton is disliked out of snobbishness at all - it's because she's perceived as lazy, self-serving and narcissistic.

TheWernethWife · 21/05/2016 19:38

Look at the cast of Made in Chelsea - lots of trustafarians who live off family money and can take holidays at the drop of a hat (I know its all made up). So what if Kate didn't work after uni, her parents probably didn't mind - you didn't see Camilla working as a check out chick at ASDA, Charlie boy paid for her to laze around having nice little bedtime chats and go out hunting.

Bettercallsaul1 · 21/05/2016 19:47

The fact that they did it doesn't make it in the slightest bit admirable, though. It is impossible to respect individuals who aim to get through life purely on the coat tails of others.

chilipepper20 · 21/05/2016 19:56

The need to demonise members of that family to justify republicanism is weird and also incredibly stupid.

I don't justify republicanism that way, but the criticism is natural.

Compare to DC. He has a job and gets criticized for it constantly, and rightly so. Members of the RF have a "job", which is to look happy, look regal, do some charity work, look busy, smile, and shut the hell up. It is on that basis that many people evaluate members of the RF.

chilipepper20 · 21/05/2016 19:58

That would be over 65% of the population then

a 2008 survey found that 40% of people think creationism should be taught in schools because it too "is a theory".

A lot of people can be wrong.

Bettercallsaul1 · 21/05/2016 20:08

Absolutely, chilipepper20! A lot of people once thought the slave trade was fine and dandy and that women had no place in the professions!

Shakirawannabe · 22/05/2016 23:29

For me it's simple, her mother (and this was said by a friend of the family) set out to get km with pw, she put her in the same school and and it was their plan all along apparently. So the 'she didn't choose her path' comments are a bit off.

My personal dislike comes from the fact that they choose to spend £30 million on their wedding while England was in the middle of a recession and people were struggling to pay their bills but paying for them to have a great day.

I see them all as old fashioned and a drain on the country's finances

Nanny0gg · 22/05/2016 23:32

I feel for Diana, she was a child and couldn't have had a clue.

She grew up next to the Royal family. Her family was close to the Royals. Her sister went out with Prince Charles before she did.

She knew what she was in for. I just think she thought there'd be love there too.

sue51 · 22/05/2016 23:40

Shakirawannbe, I don’t think Kate went to Eaton.
