AIBU to contest this parking ticket? (pics included)

This looks like a legitimate space right? Road markings to indicate it's a space, no signs anywhere saying no parking. Before I go to the bother of appealing, I wanted to get some second opinions.

I don't think the pics came through there

While I think those spaces could be spaces, they're actually not

I'd pay the ticket. There are clearly marked spaces there, it's not exactly a free for all. Where you parked wasn't a clearly marked space.

Supposed to say 'no parking'

They're not spaces

There will be a sign saying you have to park in bays - the lack of "no parking" sign won't be enough.

Take a photo of the car park parking notice sign - and see if complies with regulations

I'd appeal, you have photographic evidence showing others parked in the bay so there is obviously confusion. This, in my mind, shows the bays are not clearly marked and therefore you wouldn't know you couldn't park there.

If it was supposed to be a space wouldn't the white line come around the drivers side of the cars that are now parked in them (the Porsche and the Land Rover)?? If the lines do not come out all the way, it looks like they may have been spaces once upon a time but not any more.

But in that 'photographic evidence' of the bays not bring clearly marked there is photographic evidence of clearly marked bays. The cars parked where the op parked aren't in bays, it's obviously people who couldn't find spaces. There's not really any confusion tbh. I think they'd probably have a bit of a giggle at someone trying to say the op's original picture showed a parking bay.

Don't think it's a bay and there is probably a sign saying only park in marked bays

But yes I'd probably park there if no where else, especially if someone else had

Those aren't spaces. While there isn't a sign saying 'no parking', my guess is that there is a sign saying 'Only park in marked bays'.

I wouldn't think they are spaces based on the other marked bays around the carpark.
You could appeal and state that the white markings make it look like a parking space and there are no signs to say there is no parking.
On the parking signs does it say to park in marked bays only?

Confused theyre not spaces!! They maybe used to be before the railing went up but no way would anyone think they are spaces. Youre a chancer and you were caught.

gingerboy1912 · 18/05/2016 15:59

Ah I see now. No they aren't parking bays but I can see why you would park there I would as well as its not blocking anyone in and could be easily made into proper parking spaces.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/05/2016 16:00

Are they motorcycle spaces maybe?
They are way too narrow to be a car space.

Report
minipie · 18/05/2016 16:00

Very clearly not parking spaces. Sorry OP.

The parking spaces are the places where the white lines go all the way around the car.

Which everyone knows surely?

Report
minipie · 18/05/2016 16:01

And if there are marked spaces then it is pretty clear you're not supposed to park anywhere else.

Report
momb · 18/05/2016 16:02

No they aren't bays. I think that perhaps before the stairs to the platform moved they were spaces but no longer. It's a fair Cop.

Report
AndNowItsSeven · 18/05/2016 16:03

There are obviously not spaces people are just chancing it.

Report
IceRoadDucker · 18/05/2016 16:03

They aren't spaces and I think you'll give them a giggle trying to argue that they are. Everybody knows you have to park within the lines, not on top of any random line you can see.

No, they are not legitimate parking spaces. I'd say the painted line is probably to indicate where it would be safe for pedestrians to cross the car park.

If you try to contest your ticket on the basis that you parked in a marked bay, you will lose. It is clearly not the width of a car, and so cannot be a bay.

They're not parking spaces! There's only enough room to fit 2 wheels in it. In fact having said that you wouldn't even be able to fit a motorbike in it.

I reckon they are old lines they probably were spaces before some new fences were put in.

Report
plantsitter · 18/05/2016 16:07

If there is no sign saying 'park only in marked bays' you could try to appeal, what's the harm? But if there is, well, it's n not a marked bay is it?
