AIBU to contest this parking ticket? (pics included)

This looks like a legitimate space right? Road markings to indicate it's a space, no signs anywhere saying no parking. Before I go to the bother of appealing, I wanted to get some second opinions.

Which bit is supposed to be the parking space? The really narrow rectangle next to the barrier? Or do you mean the large unmarked area outside of it, in the rest of the photo?
TBH the photo is confusing, and I wouldn't assume you could park there if there isn't a proper marked parking bay.

It looks a bit as if it was a space before the metal construction was put on top of it.

Your query probably depends on the signage and whether, for instance, it says you can park in marked spaces only.

It's a bike space, right?

No way is that a space for a car.

Depends! Is this your car?

Where exactly did you park? You couldn't get the car within the lines.

It does look like it was probably once a parking space as it looks to be long enough. It is however far to narrow, so I'm assuming that the fence and barrier were added to widen the platform/walkway (looks to be a railway to me) and so it is no longer deemed to be a parking space. It's obviously to narrow to park in now and they probably assumed people would realise this (considering you are suposed to park within lines and not over them) which is why I'm guessing they haven't bothered removing the lines left behind, as this is costly and the money could be spent elsewhere.

Over an hour since the op first posted. It's not looking good for the op to come back and explain.

This is unusual for AIBU. Not one poster has said YABU. I do think YAB a bit U, op, unless you have any of the cars previously pictured in this thread, in which case good luck with your appeal Smile

I can't see an official parking space either. What traffic 'violation' was stated on the ticket and who issued the ticket?

Report
TSSDNCOP · 18/05/2016 11:10

No it does not look like a space. If I parked there I wouldn't be surprised to get a ticket.

You could argue I suppose that there was s no sign to say you can't park, but to argue that space is a bay for anything wider than a motorbike would be silly IMO.

Well it goes without saying that we think YABU, since there is no space to park in. In fact I'm having trouble believing that the op thought there was a space.

It looks like a tiny slither of an old space, before the building happened. Definitely not a space anymore - sorry.

Hello everyone - here I am! Sorry about that, caught on the phone. I can see that the pics I've provided aren't very clear from the sounds of it. To answer some of the q's - it IS in a railway station, yes. And it looks small in the pic but it's much bigger in real life and fits a car with plenty of space. I will drive over there later, park in it, and take another pic for you. My issue is that there are no signs saying no parking, the white lines indicate (to me anyway) that you can park there, and it's not obstructing any pathway. Be back with pics later!!

looks more like a line to say not park near the barrier, how on earth does a car fit there? Its far to thin?

Not sure I would go back and park in it again! However, what would be much more helpful if you are going back is to take some more general photos of the area so people can see where this space is in relation to other marked bays, the size of the car park in question etc. At the moment, the photo you have taken could be anything - either a tiny scrap of space at the end of a row of marked bays, a means of exit for a row of cars, or something that could be mistaken easily for a parking space. Also, are you sure there are no signs about parking regulations?

Waiting for photos later. If your car fits it would be interesting to ask how many other tickets they've issued for that "space"

Look forward to seeing the pic OP. The dimensions of length vs width look all wrong to me (way too narrow) unless your camera/ phone has a v odd lense!
