I was in a large toy retail store (not sure if you're allowed to name them if I am I'll disclose it) and was at the till paying for my sons toys and then the cashier went when's the baby due. my son was in the trolly right in front of her.

I do have a bit of horrible saggy stretched skin and a bit of baby weight still on me but I didn't know how to react beside shock and laugh.

what would have you done if it was you?

I gave birth to my DT's about 4 weeks before a general election. I had just put them both in their cots for a sleep when someone knocked on the door loudly, one of the twins woke up so I picked him up and went to answer the door. The Tory party candidate was there he asked me when was my baby due and he hoped he could rely on my vote. I looked at him decided that he obviously was not observant enough to be an MP and made a mental note to vote Labour!

Happened to me once. I was absolutely knackered and admit didn't look my best. I was wearing a sweatshirt with a front pocket and woman on till said "how much longer have you got" nodding to my tummy area ! I was mortified and don't know who was more embarrassed me or her. I actually did feel a bit sorry for her. Needless to say Hooded sweat top went straight in the bin.

mamabear I had a test comment too. Complete opposite to you in that DH & I were a bit caught up in the moment and weren't ttc. COG said something like 'time for another?' & I bit her head off saying 'I hope not!'

OP don't take it to heart, it was innocent I'm sure & do pilates for your tum

Who actually asks about bumps?!
Even if someone had a big-for-triplets bump with an 'I'm pregnant' t-shirt on I would still only smile and nod in case that's her only clean top.

She said she thought it was outrageous because her son was there so I was wondering what age her son is?

You mean you haven't bounced back into your size 6 skinny jeans? Dear God. I would fire your chef, cosmetic surgeon and personnel trainer. They obviously aren't doing their jobs.

I guess the question is when you WERE pregnant did these kind of questions upset you? if not and you are still a bit blubby as we all are after a baby then forgive her mistake. I guess the question is, is it rude to ask any pregnant lady how far along the are or is that something people shouldn't do now?

I'm on the chub side but didn't get asked until I was VERY heavily pregnant by strangers, After having a baby people may look like they are "showing" But I wouldn't think it would be so much people would think to comment.

Nosy gits some people. wouldn't take it to heart :)

But people do. And not necessarily after being pregnant if you're unlucky enough to preferentially put weight on your stomach. It's doubly rotten if you can't have kids or have recently lost one. There's just no need to risk upsetting someone if you're not absolutely sure they're pregnant.

My friend was asked when the baby was due (she wasn't prenant) and she gave them a due date

Thankfully nobody has asked me if I'm pregnant (I always gain weight around my middle first) but I did have a comment when buying a test for a pregnancy scare a few years ago. I don't want children anyway but I was young, it was terrible timing and I was very stressed about it. The shop assistant, rather than just scan it and discreetly put the box in a bag, said "oooh, how exciting! Fingers crossed for you, love!" and as I grabbed my bag and walked away she called "good luck!" Angry

I never ask ppl if they are pregnant, even if they are virtually giving birth in front of me, for this very reason

it happened to me to. I was queueing in the post office and another customer asked if I was pregnant because I wouldn't need to wait in the queue if I was. She was really embarrassed when I said I wasn't and was v apologetic.

I wonder how may people have took up offers of a seat or free stuff even though they're not pregnant.

I have had a pregnancy test one too. I was 16 and had a pregnancy scare with my abusive ex. I know back then I should have been more careful. anyway I went to the shop to pic one up and I got scolded for it. the cashier said "I hope for your mum's sake you're not pregnant" I was like what is it to her.

Many years ago I worked for a biggish company. One of the women in another department had terminal ovarian cancer, which caused her stomach to bloat.
Someone looked at her belly and said, "When's it due?"
She replied, "My funeral? In about six months, I think"
It was a horrible situation. This is why I never ask or comment. I hate this sort of small talk.

omg, I don't know what I would have done if I was in her shoes. I know most people don't mean anything nasty from it but it's situations like that when you shouldn't say anything.

Bloody nurse asked me if I was pg again while I was getting my Dd's 12 week jabs done. I'd have to have been going some to be visibly pregnant with a 12 week old wouldn't I?! Stupid woman. A nurse!
