To think children steal your pretty ?

CopperPot · 14/05/2016 16:37

Just that, really!

I used to do my hair and make up and feel pretty good about how I looked. Now, after two children and no sleep for 3 years I look shit whatever I do Sad

Will it ever come back?

But the thought of making and cleaning bottles seems worse

The people commenting on the interesting new grammar, fairly obviously hmm

Yes well go care elsewhere. Its not the pedant board, its not relevant to OP's issue, its derailing the thread.

BrandNewAndImproved · 14/05/2016 17:08

It comes back once you're out of the fog of early years.

Mine are 8 and 10 and I have finally got back in the habit of straightening my hair and ironing my clothes again which makes me feel put together.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 14/05/2016 17:09

Thanks OP. DH is now doing his "stole my pretty" in a Gollum voice Confused or it might have been Wizard of Oz, I'm not asking, it'll just encourage him....

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 14/05/2016 17:09

I was never a stunner or even very groomed, but I had time to blow dry my hair properly and take care of my skin. Also had spare money to buy new clothes and make up.

I look like Worzel Gummage since having DS Grin but mainly because I just can't be arsed to put the effort in. If I have a spare hour these days I use it for sleep and Netflix. Luckily DS is pretty enough to distract attention away from me Grin

JingsAndCrivens · 14/05/2016 17:09

Steal it back from the little blighters OP. Until you can get enough sleep, fake it with makeup!

Also, your partner? Well he doesn't sound like he's bringing much to the party. Give him an ultimatum.

DinosaursRoar · 14/05/2016 17:10

Stopping bfing didn't make my magic no sleep baby sleep, I just kept eating like I was burning the breast feeding calories so I looked fat and knackered! (Am no help, but at least offering sympathy)

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 14/05/2016 17:10

The kids stole my patient...Wink

Whathaveilost · 14/05/2016 17:10

I made a conscious effort to make sure I looked after myself during pregnancy and while the children where small.
I made a point of keeping up with beauty treatments when they were babies and toddlers.
I got slated on MN once for mentioning that I had a mobile beautician come round but I knew what time the babies went for their naps and how long they were likely to sleep for. The beautician would do my elbows, and lash tint, manicure, waxing, pedicure and anything else. It was cheaper than going to a salon and much more convienient as I could plan around the children. I kept my hair appointments to every 5 weeks nd made sure I had a make up lesson at Bonbi Brown or Mac every season to keep up with trends.

It really wasn't a big deal and didn't take up too much time but I felt and looked OK for it.

Just5minswithDacre · 14/05/2016 17:10

No thanks Game .

If you have DC when you're younger, it doesn't happen, so it's not children that do it, it's age, stress and lack of sleep.

It's just a mistake to miss sleep after 35 for any reason.

CloneMeNow · 14/05/2016 17:13

The beautician would do my elbows

What did she do to your elbows, lost? They're pretty low down on my list of neglected body parts (which is loooong).

JingsAndCrivens · 14/05/2016 17:17

How depressing that we shouldn't miss any sleep after the age of 35. I'm damned if I'm going to retire to bed with a Horlicks every evening at 9 just to make sure I keep the wrinkles and shadows away.

Whathaveilost · 14/05/2016 17:18

Lol! clone typo!! I did change it once and it must have re autocorrected!
I was on about eyebrows and lashes but come to mention it I could do with some moisturiser on my elbows. They are looking a bit dry!!

giantpurplepeopleeater · 14/05/2016 17:19

Nah. I wasn't pretty before DS came along and couldn't be arsed with time spent preening etc. So no difference for me!!!

JustLostTheGame · 14/05/2016 17:19

No thanks Game

Grin yet you gave over about it. Result.

3amClub · 14/05/2016 17:22

I'm with whathaveilost; ds 4 months and I have bi-weekly eyebrow, 6 week toenail & 6 week hair appointments on the go and plan around his naps. I go to bed when he does when we're going through a rough patch. I look no different than I did pre-dc. In fact I think I look better because of all the fresh air from daily nap walks!

Bitchqueen90 · 14/05/2016 17:22

During the baby years, yanbu. Ds is nearly 3 now and I feel a lot better (now I actually get a full night's sleep and chance to get my hair/nails done when he's at nursery!)

Tiggeryoubastard · 14/05/2016 17:23

Yes I love my children too confused probably too much whereby I don't look after myself very much.

It sounds like you're either calling women that have self respect by saying they don't love their children enough. When it seems that you've used children as an excuse to let yourself go.

JingsAndCrivens · 14/05/2016 17:27
Confused

What does this sentence mean?

'It sounds like you're either calling women that have self respect by saying they don't love their children enough.'

SnakeWitch · 14/05/2016 17:29

YABU. They steal everything Grin

Me neither Jings but I do hate that DSis can now tell by looking at me whether DH's snoring has been bad lately Smile

JustLostTheGame · 14/05/2016 17:31

3amclub is DS your first baby?

IpanemaChica · 14/05/2016 17:33

A beautician coming round to do my elbows has given me a proper giggle Grin

Op it does get easier. I thought it would never happen (3 kids) but now I exercise, sleep, have plenty of time for hair and make up and time to buy a few nice clothes etc. Youngest is 5.

MostlyColouringIn · 14/05/2016 17:33

They can have it! Pretty never got me anywhere! Sarcasm however...no one can take that from me!

FutureGadgetsLab · 14/05/2016 17:33

I deliberately make sure I look the same as I did pre kids. It's an effort though, however I'm determined not to lose my identity and style.
