What's the best compliment you've ever received?

My personal favourite ever has been "You've got a nice nose. Like Boris Becker".

Enjoying reading these, lots of them are very touching Smile
Many many years ago when I was a student nurse working in A&E a patient (a biker type guy) stopped what he was saying, scrutinized my face, paused then said: "you have beautiful eyebrows" I don't know why but that one has stayed with me, there was just something so unexpected and sincere about it.
My Uni tutor once said I had "a formidable brain" and another tutor who was observing a teaching session I was giving to a group of care staff said afterwards my session had been "inspirational" . As I've never thought of myself as formidable or inspirational they were especially nice comments to hear.

feelingdizzy · 12/05/2016 19:21

I'm a teacher so have had lots of lovely cards from kids. My favourite was a very specfic one .It said you are a great teacher, you always smell nice, have nice hair and never lose your cool.

BlueJug · 12/05/2016 19:36

"You are very loyal" - said by someone when we were in a situation where it would have been easier not to have been.

Chelsea26 · 12/05/2016 19:41

the one that made me weak at the knees was "for gods sake XXX you've got to stop looking at me with those eyes - I'll never go anywhere again!" said the morning after first night with a bloke I'd fancied for years and finally started going out with

The best work one said by my old boss. "everyone wants a you. I have you so didn't realise how great you were until I realised that no one else had a you!"

TiggyD · 12/05/2016 19:49

I work in nurseries. A child was asked what they wanted to do for their birthday. Legoland, zoo, beach, whatever. They told their Mum they wanted to come to nursery "in case Tiggy does something funny". Smile

AerithEarling · 12/05/2016 19:51

You are a dumb smart person - apparently because I know a lot of random facts and information but I can lack common sense. I beg to differ though. Then again this comment was made several times when I was 22, I am 27 now so I must of improved lol

Another one weeping over fenella's

DP told me my tits are good enough to be on Game of Thrones - high praise indeed!

Liiinooo · 12/05/2016 20:04

This one was a long time ago - i was watching Princess Diana and Charles get married with my little cousin and her BFF. I sighed and said 'oh. She's so beautiful, I wish I looked like her'. the little BFF said in a tone of surprise 'But you're MUCH prettier than her.' We no longer see that particular friend and I miss her.

A few years later I was just about to get married and a friend of my FILs was helping do up our house. He was elderly and Polish and didn't say much as his English wasn't good. One day when I came home from work, he stopped his painting and looked hard at me saying 'You a very pretty girl, why you marrying someone like him?' While it was nice to be called pretty as I was never confident about my appearance it puzzled me as I thought (and still think) my DH is very handsome.

I have twice been complimented on my eyebrows by people working on checkouts! Once at m&s, the other at tesco... V random!

Pumperthepumper · 12/05/2016 20:18

Mine was from my husband, who is not prone to outbursts of sentimentality. We were watching Orange Is The New Black and Piper's boyfriend said he wasn't going to visit her in prison every week because he had to get on with his life. I asked my husband if he'd want to get on with his life and he said, in total astonishement, 'but you are my life'.

It sounds really cheesy written down but he was just so surprised that I would even ask, and we've been together for four million years, it was just such an unexpected reaction. And we have two kids and so little time for each other, it's just my favourite memory.

Not2bObvious · 12/05/2016 20:20

This evening my dd said "you look lovely Mummy, but you always look lovely even in the mornings" - as I bask in the love, she then adds "Even when you're hungover"😩 I promise it's not very often but note to self eh?

standingonlego · 12/05/2016 20:27

Random man in street whilst I was clearing stacks of mouldy leaves outside the house, passed me, stopped and came back to tell me "it is a rare and wonderful thing to see a woman use a shovel correctly"

I was really proud (thanks Grandad Smile)

Reasonstostayalive · 12/05/2016 20:33

When asked why he liked me he said I made him laugh. After a year of awfulness that was the best thing anyone could say to me.

Amy214 · 12/05/2016 20:36

Dds health visiter kept getting our names mixed up but she said she couldnt help it as she thought we were really connected

Originalfoogirl · 12/05/2016 20:41

Was meeting my boyfriends (now my husband) parents for the first time at a restaurant. I decided to make a real effort and bought myself a new outfit.

His first words when he saw me was "fuck me, you're wearing a dress". ( it took a moment to decide whether it was a statement or a request 😄)

He is never one to comment on what folks are wearing or look like so for him, this was a pretty good compliment 😂

oldjacksscrote · 12/05/2016 20:43

On one rare occasion when I had more than 5 minutes to get ready in the morning and tried to make a bit of effort, my 2yo ds said "very pretty mummy very pretty" it was nice that someone noticed as my OH didn't.

I had a random girl tell me that I was really pretty while I was in the toilets of a night club, although I do wonder if that was a bit of a Regina George compliment Hmm. I think I look quite average and was definitely not used to compliments from other girls. I now try and make a point of complimenting other women, I used to be such a bitch but it really is nice to be nice (I know I sound like a twat)

TotalPerspectiveVortex · 12/05/2016 20:52

DSD asked if DP & I would get married because she would like me to be 'properly' her stepmum & we would all have the same name.

In fact when she was much younger she told me she was glad I wasn't an evil stepmother like in 'Cinderleller'.

Maybe I do a better job of stepparenting than I think I do.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 12/05/2016 20:53

Two recently that made me absurdly proud, during a pelvic scan (yes, I am ridiculous)

"Oooh, you have done a beautiful job of filling your bladder" and
"Aww, look, it's a perfect heart shape - it's a Disney uterus..."

I am very accomplished Wink

Applejack29 · 12/05/2016 21:02

A really nice one that I appreciated was 'you're so brave'

A good friend who I have a joking/teasing/very rarely any serious conversation type of relationship with told me that he 'doesn't hate me really!' Grin

And my all time favourite that cracks me up every time I remember it is from my grandmother who is the absolute queen of back handed compliments... 'Oh Applejack, for a girl of your...figure, you've got a lovely slim ankle' Grin

FithColumnist · 12/05/2016 21:12

"You have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen." The first thing that DH ever said to me, fifteen years ago.

BeaLola · 12/05/2016 21:19

My adopted DS about a year after he came to life with us - had been reading the velveteen rabbit and he announced that he had made me his real Mummy by loving me so much.

My DH - not a lovey dovey type when I aske d him once if I looked ok before going to an event replied with " you always look beautiful to me"

secondhoneymoon · 12/05/2016 21:22

From a male colleague: 'bet you were a cracker when you were younger' .... I was 28 at the time Confused

waterrat · 12/05/2016 21:31

I am an anxious person ...

A hippy leaning man who loved me although i didnt love him said to me once with a lovely smile ..you're a worrier but you're also a warrior ...

It sounds naff but it really stayed with me and cheers me up to remember it as I hope us true. ..

HermioneWeasley · 12/05/2016 21:32
