What's the best compliment you've ever received?

My personal favourite ever has been "You've got a nice nose. Like Boris Becker".

DS once told me I was more beautiful than a Flump.

I did have pink hair at the time so I can see the marshmallow connection.

Sgtmajormummy · 12/05/2016 14:23

DH isn't much for giving compliments but once, after a hard year for both of us, he looked in on me bathing baby DD and said "It's nice to hear you laughing again.". Hug, kiss, smile. Say no more. Smile

caitlinohara · 12/05/2016 15:16

Fenella I'm a bit teary today anyway but that has just sent me over the edge. That's lovely Flowers

witsender · 12/05/2016 15:22

A random lady in a shop while I was out shopping with both the kids. I was finding it pretty hard at that point as they were both so young, but tried to have patience. She came up to me and said something along the lines of "it's a beautiful thing to see, a mother and children so connected. You don't see it often really, you're lovely together."

Welshmaenad · 12/05/2016 15:24

A lovely friend recently told me I was the bravest and most genuine person she knew, which made me snivel a bit (I was going through a lot of crap).

InMySpareTime · 12/05/2016 15:33

A friend told me they were drawn to me as "you looked like the kind of person I could tell anything to, and you wouldn't be shocked"
That led to a conversation about what it might take to shock me, I'm extremely laid back!

QuimWilde · 12/05/2016 15:35

DD, when she was little, once said that my hair looked 'lovely, like a clown's' Grin

DH always tells me I'm beautiful, but once when I had ivy leaves in my hair (it was Christmas, I don't go to Waitrose bedecked with greenery or anything) he said 'You look breathtaking, like Artemis'. Sigh Smile

FuckOffDavid · 12/05/2016 15:37

Taking my DD to see my grandpa in hospital for the last time before he died. We walked into the room and his face just lit up with the biggest smile and he shouted the nurse over to show off "his girls". The last thing he told me was that I'm a great mum and he loves us all so much.

squizita · 12/05/2016 15:42

"You have something of the faie about you."

I look like an eccentrically dressed 90s throwback with a cheap red dye job. I sound like Janet Street-Porter.

Bless her.

NorthernChinchilla · 12/05/2016 15:42

"Gorgeous, sexy goddess of a woman" Grin I don't take compliments well and was metaphorically hiding behind the curtains at this one.

When DS was tiny I took him out in his pram, and was pushing him through the High St; we lived in a slightly dodgy area.
There was a bloke, huge, probably younger than me, sharing his can of Special Brew with his Staffie on a bench at about 10am.
He utterly beamed when he saw me and started saying 'there goes a proud Mum! Look at that, isn't it lovely to see such a proud Mum!'
I thanked him warmly, and it was lovely especially as I was still finding my feet a bit taking my PFB out.

I think the nicest ones at work are more around where I've been thanked for going the extra mile to support colleagues or members of the public, as opposed to traditional achievements.

TyrionLannistersShadow · 12/05/2016 15:48

Many years ago I was working as a nanny for a lovely family and I was out with the youngest in his buggy one day when someone stopped me to say they'd often seen me walking home from the school and that he was 'the best minded child ' she'd ever seen. I still remember that and it's 25 years ago.

grumpysquash · 12/05/2016 15:51

According to DD, I am "not as embarrassing as some of the other mums"
That is a major compliment, believe me!

DrDreReturns · 12/05/2016 15:54

A boss in my old job: 'Not many people work as hard as you.'

One of DWs friends apparently said I've got sexy legs!

Busybuzzybumblebee · 12/05/2016 16:00

worst compliment was from one of DPs friends, who the second time he met me announced that I was not as ugly as he first thought , nobhead

Proper nice compliment. My DP said to me the other day, you know why you're my soul mate, me - er no, dp - cause you're you. I actually felt teary, my dp is like getting blood out of a stone to get any sort of feelings from, so lovely.

Dollybird99 · 12/05/2016 16:00

I hosted an internal employee event this week, and thought I had done the most awful job of it, but I had a lovely email from one of the ladies afterwards to say she'd had the most amazing time, and that I was a beautiful person inside and out. Bought a tear to my eye!

Defnotsupergirl · 12/05/2016 16:03

I got told I was the cream of the crap in relation to my work once Grin I took it as a great compliment

Mum: "You make life worth living"
DP: "You're my best friend for life and just happen to be stunning"

Backhanded: "You look 10 years older but it's because you have mature features, it'll pay off when you're 60"
"You're so cuddly!"Grin

Findmuck · 12/05/2016 16:26

Smiled at man in night club once. He said " smile again " and looked at me for a moment before saying " yep you've a smile like Red Rum"

nicenewdusters · 12/05/2016 16:34

This happened many years ago, but typing it now is making my eyes water.

My beloved grandmother reached a stage where we could no longer communicate with her, didn't know if she could see or hear us. Her death was drawn out over several days, and for such an amazing woman we were heart broken. One afternoon, just hours before she died, I was sitting at her bedside. She suddenly opened her eyes, looked directly at me and put out her hand. She gave the most beautiful smile and said "You're a lovely girl".

She made the world better just by being in it.

DonnaMoss · 12/05/2016 16:46

I only work one day a week and my colleague told me she always looks forward to Wednesdays as she knows "everything will run smoothly and there'll be plenty of laughs with Donna in the office"

Made me feel quite competent Grin

OnceMoreIntoTheBleach · 12/05/2016 16:49

DD said 'I'm really glad you're not one of those fancy mums with the fancy hair and fancy nails and fancy handbag and things' Blush

madmomma · 12/05/2016 17:01

OMG fenella that's so lovely!

Avonandice · 12/05/2016 17:03

According to one of my brothers identikit wanna be hard man mates, my ass is the most ganster he has ever seen.

Kelsoooo · 12/05/2016 17:10

Recently

"You're so smart it's intimidating"
"You're so strong and capable"

Both made me feel warm and fuzzy. My back is against the wall with uni, work and the kids and I feel like I'm not doing anything very well. These people disagreed. And they were unprompted compliments
